I’m 30 weeks pregnant with a boy and we can’t find anything we both love. We have a 2 year old girl named [name_u]Romy[/name_u] which feels perfect for her.
Our criteria for new baby:
Not too popular in Australia
Middle name is [name_u]James[/name_u]
Prefer 2 syllables
Not starting with an R
Our list:
I love the name [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] but my husband is not convinced, his current favourite is [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m] nickname Jono which I don’t love.
Others we are considering are [name_m]Harvey[/name_m] and [name_u]Spencer[/name_u]. We both like [name_m]Harvey[/name_m] but its currently shot up in popularity and is currently #39 in our state.
Friends recently had a [name_u]Spencer[/name_u] but we only see them about once a year and don’t have any mutual friends so I think we could still use it but I don’t like it as much as [name_m]Jasper[/name_m]!
Which of these names should we go with if any? would love suggestions for other names meeting our criteria!
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] is adorable! I love the alliteration and the potential nn of JJ as a pp mentioned
Some suggestions…
[name_m]Casper[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] - doesn’t quite have the same brilliance as [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u]
[name_m]Jonah[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u]
[name_m]Bastian[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u]
[name_u]Elias[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u]
[name_m]Josiah[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u]
[name_u]Niall[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u]
[name_m]Prosper[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u]
[name_u]Dexter[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u]
[name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u]
[name_m]Alistair[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u]
[name_u]Nico[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u] or [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u]
[name_u]Tristan[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u]
[name_m]Madden[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] or [name_m]Maddox[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u]
[name_m]Preston[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u]
[name_m]Griffin[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u]
[name_u]Arden[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u]
[name_m]Kingston[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u]
My favoutrites for you…
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] and [name_u]Romy[/name_u]
[name_u]Arden[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u] and [name_u]Romy[/name_u]
[name_m]Kingston[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] and [name_u]Romy[/name_u]
[name_m]Madden[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] and [name_u]Romy[/name_u]
Thanks all! I like [name_m]Jonah[/name_m] and [name_m]Jonas[/name_m] but my partner doesn’t. So frustrating when they turn down all your suggestions but don’t really offer any!
What about [name_m]Caspar[/name_m]? [name_m]Caspar[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] is a friendly marriage in my opinion. Personally I would only use the name [name_u]Spencer[/name_u] if you are okay with the nickname [name_u]Spence[/name_u].
I think you can avoid JJ because you don’t have to tell everyone his middle name, and when you do and they say “JJ” you can correct them. ”
I love [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] for you. [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] is a name with panache. I do also like [name_u]Spencer[/name_u]; it was on my list until I had a girl (and then my nephew got that name, anyway).
What about a similar sounding name, like [name_m]Asher[/name_m] or [name_m]Archer[/name_m] or [name_m]Axel[/name_m]? They all have the same A sound as [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] and similar soft consonants.
Or other J names: [name_m]Jared[/name_m], [name_m]Joseph[/name_m], [name_m]Jacoby[/name_m] nn [name_m]Coby[/name_m].
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] you find something you both love. Good luck!
I hope you can convince your husband about [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] - I think [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] is great. I wouldn’t worry too much about JJ - I think initial nicknames are more of a thing in the US than here - his mates might use JJ in high school, but they’re just as likely to use his surname or something else. If you don’t encourage JJ, I expect most people will call him [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], [name_m]Jas[/name_m], Jasp or [name_u]Jazz[/name_u].
Maybe your husband might consider [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] with a middle name of his choice?
Other thoughts (I’ll try to avoid repeats):
[name_m]Fletcher[/name_m], [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] (the nn [name_m]Ned[/name_m] might make it bushranger enough for your husband?), [name_m]Dashiell[/name_m], [name_m]Otto[/name_m], [name_m]Calvin[/name_m], [name_m]Calum[/name_m]/[name_m]Callum[/name_m], [name_m]Declan[/name_m], [name_m]Amos[/name_m], [name_m]Macsen[/name_m], [name_m]Fergus[/name_m], [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m], [name_u]Tristan[/name_u], [name_m]Viggo[/name_m], [name_m]Torin[/name_m], [name_m]Griffin[/name_m], [name_m]Abel[/name_m], [name_m]Jethro[/name_m], [name_u]Dylan[/name_u], [name_u]Evan[/name_u]/[name_m]Evander[/name_m], [name_m]Samson[/name_m], [name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m].
