HELP! Names for twin girls!

Turns out, I’m having twin girls! I’ve been told throughout my entire pregnancy that it was one boy and one girl but they weren’t entirely certain as twin #2’s private parts were very hard to see. Well, she finally moved around so we could get a good view and surprise! It’s a girl!

My husband and I are just as excited as before except now we have to rethink our name choices. We’re due [name_f]October[/name_f] 8th which is pretty soon and because it’s twins, we’re pretty sure they’re going to be early. We have two kids already which makes naming even harder! Our 4 year old girl is [name_f]Elinor[/name_f] [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] and our 2 year old boy is [name_m]Archer[/name_m] [name_m]Edward[/name_m] ([name_m]Archie[/name_m], most of the time). Our last name is one syllable and quite common.

When we thought it was a boy and girl we were pretty set on [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] [name_u]Jude[/name_u] and [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] [name_f]Ada[/name_f] but now we’re stumped on our 2nd girl name. [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] is a family name so we’d really like to use it but we’re always open to suggestions. My husband loves [name_f]Desdemona[/name_f] but I’m not sure about the connotations to [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m]'s [name_m]Othello[/name_m] because of the character’s fate. However, I love the nickname [name_u]Desi[/name_u]. I do feel like [name_f]Desdemona[/name_f] and [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] is a bit too much especially as our other children’s names are quite simple and easy.

Our names list right now consists of:

[name_f]Calliope[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Desdemona[/name_f]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f]

We would like to use [name_f]Mary[/name_f] as a middle name as it’s a family name and all of our children’s middle names are important to our families. Again, we are open to any other suggestions and the names we’ll consider aren’t limited to what we have now!

Thank you

From your options, I think [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Florence[/name_f], and [name_f]Iris[/name_f] all work really well. I like the idea of the [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Iris[/name_f] because they seem to stem the stylistic differences between [name_f]Elinor[/name_f] and [name_f]Calliope[/name_f], and also work very well with [name_m]Archer[/name_m]. They seem to balance out the minor differences, and I can really see [name_f]Elinor[/name_f], [name_m]Archer[/name_m], [name_f]Calliope[/name_f], and [name_f]Violet[/name_f] or [name_f]Elinor[/name_f], [name_m]Archer[/name_m], [name_f]Calliope[/name_f], and [name_f]Iris[/name_f] as siblings. I also think [name_f]Florence[/name_f] works well and kind of flows well with the overall arch your naming style seems to have taken (very classic but unusual with [name_f]Elinor[/name_f], to preppy-and-surnamey but a little vintage with [name_m]Archer[/name_m], and then more unusual and spunky with [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] and [name_f]Florence[/name_f]). I can also see [name_f]Elinor[/name_f], [name_m]Archer[/name_m], [name_f]Calliope[/name_f], and [name_f]Florence[/name_f] being siblings. [name_f]Desdemona[/name_f] is just too unusual for me (plus, I dislike that it has “demon” right in the word, lol), and yeah. [name_m]Othello[/name_m]. lol.

My favorite option for you is [name_f]Violet[/name_f], followed by [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_f]Florence[/name_f], and then [name_f]Desdemona[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f], [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f], [name_f]Florence[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f], and [name_f]Desdemona[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f] all sound great, though, so regardless you’ll have a great name.

If you’re looking for other options, might I suggest:

[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f] “[name_f]Winnie[/name_f]”
[name_f]Adele[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f]
[name_f]Georgina[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f] (I really love this one for you–I think [name_f]Elinor[/name_f], [name_m]Archer[/name_m], [name_f]Calliope[/name_f], and [name_f]Georgina[/name_f] is fantastic!)
[name_f]Zelia[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f]
[name_f]Helena[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f]
[name_u]Juniper[/name_u] [name_f]Mary[/name_f]
[name_f]Arianne[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f]
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f] (too much Pride and Prejudice?)
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f]

Good luck!

Thank you! I love [name_u]Juniper[/name_u], it was a middle name runner up for [name_f]Elinor[/name_f] haha just not a big fan of the nickname [name_u]June[/name_u]. I’d never even considered [name_f]Georgina[/name_f] until now but I’m suddenly a huge fan ([name_u]Georgie[/name_u] seems like such a cute nickname)! Husband isn’t as enthusiastic but doesn’t hate it. I’ll see if it’ll grow on him! I think we’re becoming more drawn to [name_f]Iris[/name_f], the song by the Goo Goo Dolls was our first dance at our wedding so it has great connotations. Thanks again, I’ll be adding some of these names to our list and asking around with family and friends

[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f] and [name_f]Florence[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f]. Beautiful. Each have a stylish yet traditional first name ending with the sophisticated “ess” sound, and both have floral names!

From your list I think that [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Florence[/name_f], or [name_f]Iris[/name_f] would fit the best. I like [name_f]Violet[/name_f] & [name_f]Florence[/name_f] the most but I like any combination of the three. I really like [name_f]Desdemona[/name_f] and [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] but they’re much more unusual than your kids’ names ([name_f]Desdemona[/name_f] especially), and I personally think that they might “outshine” their names a bit. That’s just my opinion though. If that doesn’t bother you then I really like the idea of [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] and [name_f]Desdemona[/name_f] together.

My faves would be [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Florence[/name_f], both beautiful, classical, yet spunky, or [name_f]Iris[/name_f] and [name_f]Calliope[/name_f], both gorgeous and have a certain ‘richness’ to them which I think is complimentary.

I also really like the suggestion of [name_f]Georgina[/name_f]! [name_f]Florence[/name_f] and [name_f]Georgina[/name_f] ([name_f]Florrie[/name_f] and [name_u]Georgie[/name_u]) would be really sweet and I think they pair well with [name_f]Elinor[/name_f] and [name_m]Archer[/name_m]. But all in all, I think you have some great names to work with, so whatever grabs your heart it will be a beautiful sibset!

ha, yeah, me, neither, which is why I’ve not added it yet. I like [name_f]Juno[/name_f] slightly more than [name_u]June[/name_u], but still not a fan of most [name_m]Jun[/name_m]- names (not [name_f]Junia[/name_f], not [name_f]Juna[/name_f]/[name_f]Djuna[/name_f], not [name_f]Junie[/name_f], etc.!). I’ve heard [name_u]Perry[/name_u]/[name_f]Perrie[/name_f] as a nn for [name_u]Juniper[/name_u], too, but it’s too masculine for my taste.

I’m glad you like [name_f]Georgina[/name_f]! I’m crushing on it myself lately–she’s so darling. Good luck with whatever you decide!

I feel like [name_f]Florence[/name_f] and [name_f]Violet[/name_f] as twins might be too flowery (I know, I have A LOT of flower names in my list haha) but I’m seriously leaning towards [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] and [name_f]Iris[/name_f]. Thank you so much for your kind words! It means a lot <3
