Help naming my twins

Hey berries  I’ve been lurking here for a long time, and I decided it was time to finally create an account because I need help naming my little ones. I’m having a boy and a girl in a few months from now, and I’m very excited yet I have no idea what to name them. Something tells me to go with a theme (or at least names that sound good together) since that’s what my parents did (we all have nature names). My husband wants to give them sophisticated, grown up names like his parents gave him and his siblings.

Names we both like for the girl:
[name]Frances[/name] - which has always been one of my all time favorite names.
[name]Violet[/name]
[name]Hermione[/name]
[name]Phoebe[/name]

Names I like for the girl but he doesn’t:
[name]Miranda[/name]
[name]Daisy[/name]
[name]Penelope[/name]
[name]Ottilie[/name]

Names he likes for the girl but I don’t:
[name]Francine[/name]
[name]Alexandra[/name]
[name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Agnes[/name]

Names we both like for the boy:
[name]Leo[/name]

I personally have no idea what to name the boy.

Names he likes for the boy but I’m undecided about:
[name]August[/name]
[name]Jasper[/name]
[name]Emmett[/name]
[name]Flynn[/name]

So, we need help with narrowing down what to choose as a first name & we have no idea what to pick as a middle name. For a middle name, I honestly want something that a bit unusual. I’m hoping you berries could help us out

Congrats on your pregnancy and welcome to Nameberry! From your short lists, I think these names would be different but complementary for boy/girl twins. I like to use more subtle themes in the middle spot (eg. nature) because using themes in first names can sound kind of cheesy/matchy.

Twin Sets

1 [name]Frances[/name] and [name]Leo[/name] - two strong, classic and timeless names
2 [name]Violet[/name] and [name]Leo[/name] - both have a vintage flair
3 [name]Phoebe[/name] and [name]Leo[/name] - both are spunky and share an “ee” sound
4 [name]Hermione[/name] and [name]Jasper[/name] - these two pair up well

Middle Name Suggestions

[name]Leo[/name] [name]Jasper[/name] (from your husband’s list)

[name]Leo[/name] [name]Ignatius[/name]
[name]Leo[/name] [name]Thaddeus[/name]
[name]Leo[/name] [name]Peregrine[/name] - I love this combo! Is a lion and a falcon too nature themed?
[name]Leo[/name] [name]Matthias[/name]
[name]Leo[/name] [name]Sterling[/name]

[name]Frances[/name] [name]Bryony[/name]/[name]Briony[/name]

Other First Name Suggestions

[name]Frances[/name] and [name]Hugo[/name]
[name]Stella[/name] and [name]Milo[/name]
[name]Iris[/name] and [name]Jack[/name]
[name]Grace[/name] and [name]Louis[/name]
[name]Ivy[/name] and [name]Felix[/name]

[name]Lucy[/name] and [name]Oscar[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] and [name]Maxwell[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Oliver[/name]

My favorite pairing from your list is [name]Phoebe[/name] and [name]Leo[/name]-- classic, yet lively. [name]Frances[/name] and [name]Leo[/name] works too, but I would give [name]Frances[/name] a lighter mn ([name]Frances[/name] [name]Mae[/name], [name]Frances[/name] [name]Zoe[/name], [name]Frances[/name] [name]Eve[/name]) and [name]Leo[/name] a little longer mn ([name]Leo[/name] [name]Jonathan[/name], [name]Leo[/name] [name]Thomas[/name], [name]Leo[/name] [name]Montgomery[/name]) to balance the names out. I love a lot of mischa’s suggestions for you too.

[name]Violet[/name] and [name]Leo[/name] could both be considered nature names if you wanted a theme. I think it’s subtle enough. [name]Jasper[/name] would also work; it’s a gem stone.

My favourite twin-combinations:
[name]Leo[/name] and [name]Violet[/name]
[name]Leo[/name] and [name]Agnes[/name]
[name]Flynn[/name] and [name]Ottilie[/name]

Some different suggestions:
[name]Charles[/name] and [name]Nora[/name]
[name]Felix[/name] and [name]Amelia[/name]
[name]Henry[/name] and [name]Clara[/name]
[name]Oscar[/name] and [name]Alma[/name]
[name]Sylvester[/name] and [name]Marie[/name]
[name]Theo[/name] and [name]Evangeline[/name]
[name]Vincent[/name] and [name]Adelaide[/name]

Middle name suggestions:
[name]Leo[/name] [name]Helios[/name]
[name]Leo[/name] [name]Vincent[/name]
[name]Leo[/name] [name]Aloysius[/name]
[name]Leo[/name] [name]Percival[/name]
[name]Flynn[/name] Illyrio

[name]Agnes[/name] [name]Heloise[/name]
[name]Ottilie[/name] [name]Aliena[/name]
[name]Ottilie[/name] Valinor

Congratulations! Based on your lists and what sounds good together I would pick [name]Frances[/name] [name]Violet[/name] & [name]Jasper[/name] [name]Leo[/name]. Good luck! xx

[name]Frances[/name] isn’t a wearable name for a seventh grader. Or a twenty year old. Or a toddler.
Pick names that’ll work all throughout your child’s life.

It might just be me, the dumbass foreigner, again here, but what exactly makes [name]Frances[/name] a less wearable name than say, one of the names in your signature (not one bad word about them, just an example)? Sure it’s an old-ish name, but it’s not nearly in the same “don’t age/do well” category as [name]Rainbow[/name], [name]Serenity[/name] or [name]Dolly[/name] for instance. I know a [name]Frances[/name], sure the name is pronounced differently in Danish, but I’ve known her since she was sixteen and it has always suited her perfectly well - both as a sixteen year old and now, as a twenty-five year old

What an odd thing to say. You are aware that all of the older women named Frances were once seventh graders, twenty year olds, and toddlers, right? Therefore, it does work throughout a child’s life. I also want to add that I went to school with a Frances, and I can assure you that her name was perfectly wearable in seventh grade. She was called Frances when she was a toddler, so I can only assume that it was wearable then. I’m sure Frances will be just as wearable in two years when she’s twenty as well.

Leo and Phoebe is my favorite pairing. Frances and Leo is very nice as well. I loved the suggestions of Hugo and Oscar.

Thanks everyone for your great suggestions!

mischa: I love [name]Leo[/name] [name]Raphael[/name], [name]Leo[/name] [name]Jasper[/name], & [name]Leo[/name] [name]Peregrine[/name]. I pratically love all your [name]Frances[/name] mn suggestions, I can’t choose a favorite. [name]Iris[/name] and [name]Jack[/name] are really cute too, plus I’m now considering [name]Hugo[/name] since not only is it a great name but it honors my dad in a way (he goes by [name]Hugh[/name]).

davisellu: So many lovely suggestions! My favorites are probably [name]Persephone[/name], [name]Josephine[/name], [name]Flora[/name], [name]Octavia[/name], [name]Honora[/name], [name]Pearl[/name], [name]Hugo[/name], [name]Lucian[/name], [name]Florence[/name], and [name]Theo[/name].

thatkathryngirl: I’ll keep that in mind, thanks!

shvibziks: OMG I love your twin combos! I hadn’t liked [name]Agnes[/name] before, but [name]Agnes[/name] and [name]Leo[/name] sound adorble together! So does [name]Flynn[/name] and [name]Ottilie[/name]. I love [name]Leo[/name] [name]Helios[/name], [name]Flynn[/name] Illyrio, [name]Flynn[/name] [name]Leonidas[/name], [name]Agnes[/name] [name]Ophelia[/name], and [name]Agnes[/name] [name]Heloise[/name]. Also, I agree with what you said about [name]Frances[/name]; it’s not like I’m naming my daughter [name]Pixie[/name] or [name]Moon[/name] Unit.

maewynmannix: Personally, as someone who knew a [name]Frances[/name] growing up, I think it’s extremely wearable at any age. If she didn’t like her name for some reason, she’d also have a plethora of nicknames to choose from: [name]Franny[/name], [name]Frankie[/name], etc.

southern.maple: I agree with your thoughts on [name]Frances[/name]

Thanks for your suggestions everyone! I have so many options to choose from now  I’m open for any other suggestions, comments, advice, etc.

[name]Leo[/name] is a lovely name for a boy. I think it is one you should use. [name]Liam[/name] is another similar name, but I prefer [name]Leo[/name]. [name]Leo[/name] [name]Jasper[/name] is a great name. If you use [name]Jasper[/name] in the middle, you could have a theme of gemstone names in the middle.
From your girls names, I think [name]Violet[/name], [name]Phoebe[/name], [name]Penelope[/name] and [name]Alexandra[/name] are the best options. [name]Alexandra[/name] fits best with [name]Leo[/name], and I think [name]Leo[/name] [name]Jasper[/name] and [name]Alexandra[/name] [name]Jade[/name] would be a great sibset.
[name]Frances[/name] is another name I like, but there may be teasing from nn [name]Fanny[/name]. [name]Francesca[/name] would be much better in my opinion, and [name]Francesca[/name] also has the nn [name]Chessie[/name], but my favorite nn for [name]Frances[/name] or [name]Francesca[/name] would be [name]Frankie[/name]. [name]Frankie[/name] and [name]Leo[/name] are a lovely sibset.
To unify the sibset, both should have a middle name theme. Because [name]Francesca[/name] or [name]Alexandra[/name] sound best with [name]Leo[/name], I would suggest giving the girl a short middle name and the boy a longer middle name so they are well balanced.

Gemstone names for girls:
[name]Amber[/name]
[name]Amethyst[/name]
[name]Beryl[/name]
[name]Crystal[/name]
[name]Diamond[/name]
[name]Emerald[/name]
[name]Garnet[/name]
[name]Jacinda[/name]/[name]Jacinth[/name]
[name]Jade[/name]
[name]Jewel[/name]
[name]Opal[/name]
[name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Ruby[/name]
[name]Sapphire[/name]
[name]Topaz[/name]
[name]Turquoise[/name]

I can give you some suggestions for names from your list that I like individually with the gemstone middles to match [name]Leo[/name] [name]Jasper[/name]. It might be an option to have both children have a one syllable first name and two or three syllable middle with the gemstone theme. [name]Leo[/name] [name]Jasper[/name] and [name]Jade[/name] [name]Penelope[/name] would be a cute sibset, or [name]Leo[/name] [name]Jasper[/name] and the more classic [name]Pearl[/name] [name]Miranda[/name].

Girls combos from your list:
[name]Violet[/name] [name]Ottilie[/name]
[name]Francesca[/name] [name]Jade[/name]
[name]Phoebe[/name] [name]Miranda[/name]
[name]Penelope[/name] [name]Topaz[/name]
[name]Alexandra[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Viola[/name] [name]Penelope[/name]

Boys combos from your list:
[name]Leo[/name] [name]Jasper[/name]
[name]Flynn[/name] (prefer [name]Finn[/name]) [name]Jasper[/name]

Girls names:
[name]Ophelia[/name]
[name]Adeline[/name]
[name]Caroline[/name]
[name]Naomi[/name]
[name]Janine[/name]

Boys names:
[name]Finn[/name]
[name]Carl[/name]
[name]Sebastian[/name]
[name]Benjamin[/name]
[name]Liam[/name]
[name]Oliver[/name]

Sibsets combos:
[name]Leo[/name] [name]Benjamin[/name] and [name]Alexandra[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] ([name]Leo[/name] and [name]Lexi[/name], [name]Leo[/name] and [name]Alex[/name])
[name]Finn[/name] [name]Jasper[/name] and [name]Francesca[/name] [name]Jade[/name] (too matchy? [name]Finn[/name] and [name]Frankie[/name])
[name]Leo[/name] [name]Jasper[/name] and [name]Penelope[/name] [name]Jade[/name] ([name]Leo[/name] and [name]Penny[/name])
[name]Oliver[/name] [name]James[/name] and [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Violet[/name] ([name]Ollie[/name] and [name]Cara[/name])

Sibsets one name:
[name]Benjamin[/name] and [name]Alexandra[/name] ([name]Ben[/name] and [name]Alex[/name], [name]Jamie[/name] and [name]Alex[/name])
[name]Benjamin[/name] and [name]Penelope[/name] ([name]Ben[/name] and [name]Penny[/name], [name]Jamie[/name] and [name]Penny[/name])
[name]Leo[/name] and [name]Francesca[/name] ([name]Leo[/name] and [name]Frankie[/name])
[name]Leo[/name] and [name]Alexandra[/name] ([name]Leo[/name] and [name]Alex[/name], [name]Leo[/name] and [name]Lexi[/name])
[name]Leo[/name] and [name]Penelope[/name] ([name]Leo[/name] and [name]Penny[/name])
[name]Oliver[/name] and [name]Caroline[/name] ([name]Ollie[/name] and [name]Cara[/name])

The best sibset I’ve listed is [name]Oliver[/name] [name]James[/name] and [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Violet[/name], but I don’t think that is really your style. From your list, I think [name]Leo[/name] [name]Jasper[/name] and [name]Francesca[/name] [name]Jade[/name] is the best.
