Help Naming Our Baby Boy!

Hello Berries!

We are having the hardest time picking out a name for our little boy arriving in [name_u]March[/name_u]. I had a complete meltdown this weekend over the fact that hubby doesn’t seem like he will budge and let me use [name_u]Noah[/name_u]. I have loved the name since I was probably 10 years old! Completely cried in the middle of dinner at a restaurant- stupid hormones. I really do like all of the options, I am just overthinking it at this point. I want my perfect little baby to have a perfect little name! Here is what is going through my mind

[name_u]Noah[/name_u]- My longest name love. I die a little bit thinking about not having a son named [name_u]Noah[/name_u]! Hubby likes it for a baby but just can’t picture it on an adult. I forced a ‘maybe, I will think about it’ out of him, but I doubt he will want to use it :frowning: Part of me thinks that I guess, just maybe, it is a little too popular/plain.

[name_u]Jameson[/name_u]- I was really surprised hubby agreed to this. I think maybe he likes it because of the whiskey haha. We are both really laid back people. We love camping, the ocean, surfing, snowboarding, etc. I feel like [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] sort of wraps up all of those things in a cute little package. Very proper name, but laid back as well. The only reservation we have is that we don’t like seeing ‘[name_u]James[/name_u]’ in the name, or the nickname [name_u]Jamie[/name_u]. Yuck. Hoping I can get [name_u]Jem[/name_u] to stick

[name_m]Oliver[/name_m]- This was a last minute addition to the list- I don’t think either of us really loved the name at first. But when I mentioned it we were both kind of like ‘oh yah, that is cute’. I don’t like hearing ‘liver’ in it. But I think it really is a cute name, and I have never heard a little boy in our area called [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]. Hubby has a hard time picturing it on a baby. So his nickname would probably be [name_u]Ollie[/name_u].

[name_m]Maverick[/name_m]- This one is a long shot. Hubbys choice. I really like the sound of the name. Hate the meaning. I really don’t want my son to have a ‘gun slinger’ sort of name that basically means rebel! But love the nickname Mav. [name_m]Just[/name_m] not classic like the others

[name_m]Callen[/name_m]- My husbands absolute favorite. It seems to grow on people fairly easily, even if they don’t love it right away. I love the nickname [name_u]Cal[/name_u]. But hate that it seems so alike to all the trendy [name_m]Keller[/name_m]/[name_m]Kellan[/name_m]/[name_m]Kaden[/name_m]/ names. I know so many of those, even if I don’t know any Callens in particular. Seems a little like white noise. If I could get over that I think I’d love it much more.

Middle names honor my dad, which is very very important to me. He will also have a Hawaiian middle name which won’t be chosen until we meet him.

Thanks for your help/opinions!

I love all your names.
[name_u]Noah[/name_u] was actually what I wanted to name my first son and my hubby too shut it down.
I love [name_u]Jameson[/name_u], [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] and [name_m]Maverick[/name_m].
I do like [name_m]Callen[/name_m] but I do agree with your white noise theory, lol.
I think [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] is your best choice.
Good [name_m]Luck[/name_m]

[name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] and [name_m]Maverick[/name_m]!
[name_m]Both[/name_m] are adorable and sophisticated.

From the names you both agree on, I particularly like [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] and [name_m]Maverick[/name_m], with a slight preference for [name_u]Jameson[/name_u].

Would he go for [name_u]Noah[/name_u] [name_m]Callen[/name_m]?

I love [name_u]Noah[/name_u]. If it helps, I know a few teenage Noahs, and a couple of adult ones. [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] is also a favourite of mine.
I’m not a fan of [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] (generally not a “son” fan in general, particularly if you husband’s name isn’t [name_u]James[/name_u]), and [name_m]Maverick[/name_m] just isn’t my style. I like the [name_m]Callan[/name_m] spelling of [name_m]Callen[/name_m]; it sounds a bit too much like [name_m]Allan[/name_m] for me taste, though.

I would think twice before using [name_u]Jameson[/name_u]. The first thing most people think of is alcohol. Yes, once they get to know him they won’t, and it does have a pretty name… but would you name your kid [name_f]Corona[/name_f]? To me it’s the same. [name_m]Just[/name_m] my opinion.

I would also ditch [name_m]Callan[/name_m]. I really like it, but you are spot on about white noise (and that actually made me lol!). Also I keep hearing of kids named [name_m]Cullen[/name_m] (yes, like Twilight) and this would get lumped in.

I love your others. what about [name_m]Calvin[/name_m] nnn [name_u]Cal[/name_u]?

[name_u]Noah[/name_u] – this name is very popular where I live. But if you love it, then you use it! You mentioned being laid back people, and I think [name_u]Noah[/name_u] fits that category too!

[name_u]Jameson[/name_u] – I agree with you, I detest the name/nickname [name_u]Jamie[/name_u]. [name_u]Jem[/name_u] would be a really cute nickname for this name. I wouldn’t use this name personally because of the whiskey association, but I do think it is super cute and would probably age very well.

[name_m]Oliver[/name_m] – This name is totally growing on me. It has a vintage-y, cool, mellow feel to it. [name_u]Ollie[/name_u] is a cute nn too

[name_m]Maverick[/name_m] – I don’t like this name. I think of [name_m]John[/name_m] McCain and wouldn’t want that to be the first association with my baby!

[name_m]Callen[/name_m] – While I really like [name_m]Callen[/name_m], I worry about the popularity issue you mentioned with the million variants of this name ([name_f]Kaylen[/name_f], [name_m]Callum[/name_m], [name_m]Kaden[/name_m], [name_m]Kellen[/name_m], etc, etc). I personally don’t like names like that that have 100 different ways to pronounce and spell essentially the same name (like the whole [name_f]Kirsten[/name_f], [name_f]Kristen[/name_f] debacle)…So I would stay away from this name for that reason.

Ultimately, I really like [name_u]Noah[/name_u], [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] and [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]. You can’t go wrong with those three

Best of luck!

[name_u]Noah[/name_u] & [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] are amazing. Those are my favorite out of your list. What about a combination of names or two middle names? Or your husband decides on first name and you the middle(s)

Thank you all for your opinions- I really appreciate them!!

We talked about the idea of us both picking a name. But then there is the argument of who’s name will be the first name, the name he will be known by. Plus it is really important to me that one of his middle names be [name_m]Jon[/name_m] or [name_u]Michael[/name_u], after my dad. And it is a family tradition for the baby to have a Hawaiian middle name as well. So two middle names is plenty in my books haha!

I really am leaning towards [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] I think. Obviously [name_u]Noah[/name_u] is my pick, but if I must compromise, I really love [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] [name_u]Michael[/name_u]. We will see if hubby agrees! He is so wishy washy lol. [name_m]Callen[/name_m] [name_m]Jon[/name_m] is so handsom too, but I’m glad you all agree it just seems like white noise!

I’m biased to the name [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] since that was our son’s name. I love it because it’s strong, and not super common but also not “weird”, if you know what I mean. I usually call our son by his full name. My husband will call him “[name_u]Jay[/name_u]” as a nickname since that was his grandfather’s name. ([name_u]Jay[/name_u] not [name_u]Jameson[/name_u]).

For middle names, I’d go with [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] [name_u]Michael[/name_u]. [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] [name_m]Jon[/name_m] is just too many J sounds for my taste. I also love [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] going back to your original list.
