Help needed, how could I spell this name?

I like the name [name_f]Isla[/name_f] (eye-la) but not enough to use.

I saw [name_f]Islay[/name_f] and first thought it could be eye-lee, which I thought was really cute. Then I learned it’s Scottish and said just like [name_f]Isla[/name_f] (eye-la).

I fell in love with eye-lee, though. Is there any legit way to spell it?

I was thinking:

[name_u]Isley[/name_u] - but I guess it will be confused with [name_f]Islay[/name_f] or pronounced eyez-lee
[name_f]Eilidh[/name_f] - this is ay-lee but kind of close. Could you respell this to get eye-lee in an authentic Scottish way?

Islidh, possibly?
[name_f]Iley[/name_f]?

None of them look right.

Eilie or Eilee.

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps!

I kinda’ like [name_f]Ily[/name_f]. It was trendy as a GP for a little bit in the early 00’s. It’s pronounced IE-lee and is an acronym / txtspk for “I love you”.

But if I were choosing a spelling for my own child I’d go for [name_u]Isley[/name_u].

How about [name_f]Eileen[/name_f]? It’s a Scottish name and very similar to what you’re talking about. And you can use Eye-lee as a nickname!

I think Eilee or [name_u]Isley[/name_u] work. I personally like Eilee best. Great suggestion @cms1512 !

[name_f]My[/name_f] first thought was Eiley or Eilee. You could also do Islie

[name_f]Isla[/name_f] nicknamed Islie makes total sense
[name_f]Ily[/name_f] maybe? Similar to [name_u]Ivy[/name_u]

Eilee (like Eileen?)

Hmm I like Islie or [name_u]Isley[/name_u], with the popularity of [name_f]Isla[/name_f] I’m sure people would catch on quick but you’d definitely get some confusion over whether it’s eyez-lee  maybe Eilie? Eylie?

I think [name_u]Isley[/name_u] is most intuitive! (Islay looks like EYE-lay or IZZ-lay to me.)

Perhaps Eyley, [name_m]Ilie[/name_m], Ailie, Aily, [name_f]Ailey[/name_f], or Eilie? I love that Eilie is a palindrome, and I think it’s intuitive enough!

[name_u]Isley[/name_u] was brought to my attention by [name_f]Rumer[/name_f]
[name_m]Willis[/name_m] who recently named her daughter [name_f]Louetta[/name_f] [name_u]Isley[/name_u]. I prefer this spelling. It looks the prettiest and I think with [name_f]Isla[/name_f] being popular and the word “island” being grasped by everyone at a young age, I think you’ll be OK with it. Might be some mistakes but not enough to get too creative with the spelling. But of course, go with the one you think will cause fewest hassles!

I know someone with this name, but I’ve never asked how it is spelled. (I should probably have my namenerd license revoked, or at least temporarily suspended.) I have always assumed it was spelled [name_f]Iley[/name_f], but I honestly don’t know. I will ask and get back to you!

Update: It’s [name_f]Ailey[/name_f], a diminutive of the [name_u]Irish[/name_u] [name_f]Aileen[/name_f].

I also really do love that ey-lee sound, and I think you could probably do either Eilee or Eyeli? I would probably lean more towards Eilee though, because I think Eyeli sounds more like eye-eh-lee!

I’ve seen [name_u]Isley[/name_u] spelled that way and that makes sense to me for it to be pronounced Eye-lee. I honestly didn’t even question pronounciation issues and added it straight to my babynames list. I’m only 12 weeks and that list is pretty long and disorganized. But [name_u]Isley[/name_u] - it’s [name_u]Isle[/name_u] like when you say [name_u]Island[/name_u], with an “ee” ending, and my partner had no problem reading it that way off my list either. I don’t know why [name_u]Isley[/name_u] would be confusing. Have you tried getting people you know and care about to read your variations off a list?

I dislike the Eilee spelling - how it looks on paper just doesn’t feel right, I look at it and think it’s [name_f]Eileen[/name_f] but somebody forgot the “n”, and it’s a lot of ee’s to look at.
