I need help in a major way. I’m now in my third trimester and have no idea what my baby boy’s name will be. He has two older sisters, [name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_m]Augustine[/name_m] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] (ruling out names like [name_u]August[/name_u] and [name_m]Silas[/name_m]) and [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] [name_u]Brighton[/name_u] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] (we call her [name_f]Lulu[/name_f]/[name_u]Lou[/name_u]). [name_f]Every[/name_f] name I’ve picked apart, and just doesn’t feel like “it”. Our last name rhymes with [name_u]Parker[/name_u] and starts with an H.
Names we both agreed on:
[name_m]Atlas[/name_m] - I’m a huge [name_f]Ayn[/name_f] [name_m]Rand[/name_m] fan, and he’s partial to mythology, but this name seems like it might be too big and getting too popular.
[name_m]Declan[/name_m] - He kind of ruined it for me when he joking called it “dee-clan” too many times. Also, it’s popping up in our neighborhood too much.
[name_u]Ellis[/name_u]
[name_u]Kieran[/name_u] - we live in the midwest, and even though this was our boy name for the other two pregnancies, now I feel like it will just sound like “[name_f]Karen[/name_f]” said with a twang.
[name_u]Murphy[/name_u]
[name_m]Wells[/name_m]
Names one of us liked:
[name_u]Arlo[/name_u]
[name_m]Boyd[/name_m]
[name_m]Brooks[/name_m] - he’s big on this one, but it sounds too country club to me.
[name_m]Callahan[/name_m]
[name_m]Ford[/name_m] - he’s big on this one, too. Westworld is a plus, but the car manufacturer and one syllable ruins it for me.
[name_m]Miles[/name_m] - he knew some kids growing up with this as a last name. Also, he has a cousin whose kid is “[name_m]Milo[/name_m]”.
[name_m]Oxford[/name_m] - I had it on the list as a middle name. He liked it to get back to “[name_m]Ford[/name_m]”.
[name_u]Sullivan[/name_u]
Names we’ve nixed:
[name_m]Calvin[/name_m] - coworker
[name_u]Hudson[/name_u] - popularity and alliteration with last name
[name_m]Nolan[/name_m] - daughter has a classmate and his little sister has her name
Orwell
[name_u]Rhys[/name_u]
[name_m]Soren[/name_m]
[name_u]Sutton[/name_u]
[name_m]Lochlan[/name_m] - friends’ kid’s name, otherwise I feel like it’d be perfect.
[name_m]Milo[/name_m] - cousin’s son’s name
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] - coworker’s son’s name
My wish list is to have something known, but rare.
Something I’ve never heard in meeting someone or their kids.
At least two syllables, ideally.
Has a nickname.
Extra super bonus points if it has an L sound in the name.
I really like Kieran! Other suggestions:
Cormac
Fergus
Dermot
Dylan
Malcolm
Malachi
Gavin
Elliott
Virgil
Colman
Nicholas
Raphael
Lorcan
Nathaniel
Franklin
On your list I love [name_u]Murphy[/name_u], [name_m]Wells[/name_m], and [name_u]Kieran[/name_u] and I would suggest [name_m]Axel[/name_m], which is similar to [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] but slightly more wearable, [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. I also like [name_m]Maguire[/name_m], [name_m]Alistair[/name_m], [name_m]Tadhg[/name_m], and [name_m]Gallagher[/name_m] for you.
[name_m]How[/name_m] is [name_m]Callum[/name_m] not the name?? You like [name_m]Calvin[/name_m] and [name_m]Callahan[/name_m], [name_m]Declan[/name_m], and [name_m]Lochlan[/name_m]. I think [name_m]Callum[/name_m] might be perfect. But I’m biased because I have both a [name_m]Callum[/name_m] and a [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m]. We haven’t yet met another [name_m]Callum[/name_m] his age in the US (or outside, but a good number of adult [name_m]Callum[/name_m]'s from Australia, who have all been really friendly, good kind of people!). I love it. It’s a great name. If not [name_m]Callum[/name_m], I say go with [name_m]Atlas[/name_m]. [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] is fab and goes very well with his sisters.
[name_m]Callum[/name_m] isn’t the name because, well, I don’t really like it lol but also there’s a [name_m]Callan[/name_m] in my oldest daughter’s class.
[name_u]Elias[/name_u] is another cousin, and I have a friend whose kid is [name_m]Eli[/name_m]. I’m hoping [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] doesn’t come too close to these because that’s where we’re leaning.
[name_m]Kian[/name_m]/[name_m]Killian[/name_m] are out because my husband’s name is [name_m]Ian[/name_m]. While I think it’s hilarious that our son could have a patricidal name (kill-[name_m]Ian[/name_m]), I don’t know that everyone else would see that.
I had been eyeballing [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] for either a boy’s first or a girl’s middle but there was someone in our neighborhood that ran in the same circles. I was super excited when they moved out of state and it became available again until my husband’s friend named their daughter it.
[name_m]Calloway[/name_m] is also off the table because of the golf brand, and my husband being a golf professional in a former life.
If you haven’t figured it out yet, I’m super neurotic and ruin every name lol
[name_u]Skyler[/name_u]/[name_u]Skylar[/name_u]/[name_u]Schuyler[/name_u] and [name_m]Elijah[/name_m]/[name_u]Elias[/name_u] shares the L and the long I sound with your other two kids, but they may be too common for you.
My favorites from previous posters’ suggestions that seem to fit your criteria:
[name_m]Malcolm[/name_m]
[name_m]Lincoln[/name_m]
[name_m]Julian[/name_m]
[name_u]Douglas[/name_u]
All sound wonderful paired with your last name. I think I prefer [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] best with your daughters - not sure if [name_f]Isla[/name_f] goes by a nickname, but [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] and [name_m]Mack[/name_m] sound like siblings to me. Good luck!
I like [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] and [name_u]Murphy[/name_u]! [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] [name_m]Lochlan[/name_m] [name_u]Murphy[/name_u]?
