[name]Hi[/name]! My list for both boys and girls has gotten pretty long, so I’ve been thinking about organizing it by style to help make sibsets easier to make. Has anyone else done this for their list? I need help figuring out which categories to have, and what kinds of names would go for each category. Like traditional, Biblical, etc, with a few examples of names from those categories. I considered just posting my lists and asking someone to help but they really are so long… don’t want to put anyone else through that! Also, if a category were “Vintage”, how old exactly would you consider that? Thanks!
I use a spreadsheet in Google Docs. I created a column for the name, the gender, origin, meaning, and a rating of how much I like the name on a scale of 1-5. You could easily add another column for style. I like doing this because I can use the sort A-Z feature to group the names however I want. If I want to look only at one gender, I sort the gender column, and it organizes them by Boy, Girl, Unisex. If I want to go back to an alphabetical listing, I just sort the name column A-Z. and if I want to see my favs quickly, I sort my rating column. It doesn’t really work with the meaning column, but I like to have it there so I don’t have to look up the meaning someplace else.
I like to just make a list in Word, broken up by headings. It’s helpful if they’re more the vibe the name gives you than the technical category, I think - so rather than Vintage, which is so broad, perhaps Musty, or Upper Class Victorian or [name]Golden[/name] Age of Hollywood, whatever association they have in your mind. It’s much easier to create balanced combinations that way!
And I for one wouldn’t mind giving my opinion on which categories your names fall into
[name]Auburn[/name]
Haha okay [name]Auburn[/name], here are my lists. Have at them!! If you want to just get me started that’s great, or if you’re in the mood for a lot of sorting… have fun!

There it is! Be nice
I take that challenge, good sir I love a lot of your choices! I’ve done your girls list, at might have a chance to take a look at the boys sometime soon.
A couple of disclaimers:
- Obviously, lots of the names could fit into several genres ” [name]Bridget[/name] could be Germanic But Feminine and British Isles non-English, and several of the Vintage-Lite choices are also word names.
- [name]Just[/name] because names aren”t in the same section, it doesn”t mean they wouldn”t make a cohesive ”sibset”. I could definitely see [name]Livia[/name] and [name]Astrid[/name] or [name]June[/name] and [name]Greta[/name] as sisters, for example. The groups are more defined by which names would sound like an overload if they were all in one name ” [name]Catherine[/name] [name]Anne[/name]-[name]Sophie[/name] [name]Elisabeth[/name] is too sturdy classic in my opinion, [name]Aislinn[/name] [name]Aoife[/name] [name]Niamh[/name] too Irish, at least for an American baby.
-
Of course, this is just my personal initial reaction, and everyone sees names differently.
[name]Aurelia[/name] ” gets a category of its own, as a [name]Roman[/name] name which doesn”t feel British enough (to this UK [name]Berry[/name]) to go in the English Manor House section. If really really pushed, I might put it in Vintage-Lite.

so perfect. i never would have thought of the “romantic hero” or “50s movie leads” categories, but they fit SO well. i’m thinking it’s probably those qualities that I would want in a man, and I’m infusing it into the boy names I like haha I’m a hopeless romantic! thanks again for the sorting!!
