We are really torn between two names. We love the name [name_f]Summer[/name_f]. However it is my boss”s daughters name! Is this too weird to name our baby? [name_f]My[/name_f] boss’s daughter is about 16 so they won’t be close in age. However they do mention her every now and then at break times.
We also love the name [name_f]Sienna[/name_f], but maybe a smidgen less than [name_f]Summer[/name_f]. I am struggling to decide whether we don’t care what anyone thinks and just name her [name_f]Summer[/name_f] or if we should go with [name_f]Sienna[/name_f] as it is a beautiful name and we obviously have no ties to it. Would you go with [name_f]Summer[/name_f] because you like it a little bit more or would you choose [name_f]Sienna[/name_f] to be different and avoid any potential awkwardness when her name is announced??
Summer is my favorite! Since your boss’ daughter is much older and they will probably not see each other very often, I don’t think you should eliminate Summer! Don’t forget that one day you or your boss may find a different job and lost contact. You will not want to regret not using Summer in a few years.
I know many work colleagues that have kids with the same names and that has never been a problem.
I’d say the same as @Estrela- you’ll probably regret not picking [name_f]Summer[/name_f], and your daughter having the same name as your boss’s isn’t a problem you’ll have ok the long term. I guess it could be awkward if you’re particularly close, but, if you like the name, go for it.
We aren’t close at all- I think it’s mainly me just worried about what the initial reaction will be! They are lovely people… I think I just need the confirmation i won’t be being weird naming her the same!!!
As someone mentioned in your other thread, I don’t think your work should influence big life rescissions such as your child’s name. Go with the name you love
The initial reaction is just that - an initial reaction. If it’s negative in any way (which I personally doubt it will be), it will go away. Your child’s name will be their name for (presumably) the rest of their life
Summer is my favorite! More spunky and unique to me. I think that is you love it, it’s right. Your boss’s daughter won’t be the biggest tie all of her life.
If the name was more uncommon, then yes, you might find the immediate association would be in ‘copying your boss’ so to speak, but I think that because [name_f]Summer[/name_f] is common enough as a name and has alternate associations as a word, that your colleagues and such potentially wouldn’t even think to associate it directly with your boss anyway.
[name_f]Summer[/name_f] is lovely, and if it has your heart, don’t let it go.
For me personally I would pick [name_f]Sienna[/name_f] - as I strived to pick a name for our son that nobody I knew had. It was hard , and at the end of the day a close friend of our used the name we picked a year later. I also love [name_f]Sienna[/name_f].
However my advice is always go with the name you love and have a connect with ! That way you can’t go wrong
[name_f]Summer[/name_f] is definitely my favourite and especially because it’s your favourite name! Definitely go with [name_f]Summer[/name_f] the boss thing is a non issue really
I think [name_f]Summer[/name_f] is absolutely fine! It’s not as if it’s a name used by a family member or friend who you see often, so the two won’t be confused.
I think you should totally go for [name_f]Summer[/name_f]! It’s a beautiful name, and you love it. I don’t think the boss situation is too much at all.
Both are gorgeous but in this case, I’d go with [name_f]Summer[/name_f], not only because you like it more but because i think you’d regret not using it. Your boss’s daughter is different in age, you might not work with them forever and [name_f]Summer[/name_f] is a popular enough name that it doesn’t feel like copying
