Help, please!

hello,
i’ve been lurking for a couple of months, but have been bored at home today and decided to come out of hiding to solicit your sage advice!
i am expecting – don’t yet know the sex – and am somewhat stumped on boy names.
i have a sneaking suspicion that most of “my” names will be real nose-wrinklers for most everyone here, but please keep an open mind and be gentle!
i also have a kinda weird contingency plan with some of these that i’ll note in parenthesis.
so far, we have:
clyde (for a nice, roly poly boy – don’t laugh!)
ira (for a dark haired kid)
george (if he’s blondish – not sure why george is blonde in my mind, but he is)
holland
barnaby

my last name is, uh, rather easy to figure out – three syllables, french and starts with an L.
the middle name will be singer, regardless of the first.
and because i know some of you like to take siblings into consideration, i have a daughter named birdie.
thanks in advance for your opinions and advice!

[name]Hi[/name] there! I’m so glad you came out of the darkness! None of your names are nose-wrinklers for me, and I’m guessing a lot of Nameberry posters will agree! [name]Birdie[/name] is darling, by the way…

clyde (for a nice, roly poly boy – don’t laugh!): I think [name]Clyde[/name] is a really cool name, and like [name]Clive[/name], [name]Clifton[/name], and [name]Conrad[/name] too.
ira (for a dark haired kid): I prefer [name]Clyde[/name], but it would be cute to see a little [name]Ira[/name]!
george: I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]George[/name]!
holland: For me, [name]Holland[/name] feels like a trendy girls’ first name, but this may just be me!
barnaby: Not a total nose-wrinkler  for me, but I just don’t care for [name]Barney[/name] as a nickname.

Of your choices, [name]George[/name] is my favorite, with [name]Clyde[/name] in second place!

Other ideas just for fun:
[name]Clive[/name]
[name]Clifton[/name]
[name]Conrad[/name]
[name]Chester[/name]
[name]Augustin[/name]
[name]Atticus[/name]
[name]Dashiell[/name]
[name]Edward[/name]
[name]Ezra[/name]
[name]Gabriel[/name]
[name]Hugo[/name]
[name]Jasper[/name]
[name]Leo[/name]
[name]Milo[/name]
[name]Magnus[/name]
[name]Nathaniel[/name]
[name]Silas[/name]
[name]Theodore[/name]
[name]Thaddeus[/name]
[name]Truman[/name]
[name]Wilson[/name]

I’m sure others will be along soon!

Good luck!

clyde (for a nice, roly poly boy – don’t laugh!)- i like this a lot, and it’s my favorite with [name]Birdie[/name]. [name]Birdie[/name] and [name]Clyde[/name] sounds so cute, ooh, except it sounds a little like [name]Bonnie[/name] and [name]Clyde[/name], people will probably notice that, but it’s still cute.
ira (for a dark haired kid)- not my cup of tea.
george- interesting that [name]George[/name] is blonde to you, he’s a brunette for me! I absolutely adore [name]George[/name] and if I hadn’t been sedated right after my baby was born and my husband hadn’t been calling him [name]Dash[/name] for 5 hours the first time I met him, I would have wanted to name him [name]George[/name].
holland- i agree with [name]Jill[/name] about this sounding like a trendy girls name.
barnaby- I always hear the lyric ‘listen, [name]Barnaby[/name]’ from the song “Put on Your [name]Sunday[/name] Clothes”, and it makes me very happy!

[name]George[/name] is my top choice, then I’m torn between [name]Barnaby[/name] and [name]Clyde[/name]. I Think [name]George[/name] Singer and [name]Barnaby[/name] Singer sound amazing. [name]Clyde[/name] Singer isn’t quite as good. [name]Ira[/name] Singer reminds me of a sewing machine (sorry!), [name]Holland[/name] Singer is nice, but I like your other choices a lot more.

Good [name]Luck[/name]!

thanks so much for the input, ladies!
funny that holland is a trendy girls name to both of you – in my family it’s a stuffy old man name!
also, ira is our “good jewish name.” beautiful, i think, but obvious that sentiment doesn’t really carry cross-culturally, ha.

clyde (for a nice, roly poly boy – don’t laugh!) - this is a cool name! I have an Uncle [name]Clyde[/name]. [name]Clyde[/name] is a river in [name]Scotland[/name].
ira (for a dark haired kid) - my brother-in-law’s name. I just think of him.
george (if he’s blondish – not sure why george is blonde in my mind, but he is) - I love the name [name]George[/name]! My son was born with no hair and then his hair turned blonde. Now it is dark. My daughter was born with reddish light brown hair and then it turned strawberry blonde. Then it turned blonde and then it turned light brown. Totally curly. So you never know if your brown-haired baby will be blonde pretty soon. And then have brown hair again!
holland - I like [name]Hollis[/name] better, oh, is [name]Holland[/name] for a boy? I don’t really like it, sorry. I love [name]Hudson[/name].
barnaby - love [name]Barnaby[/name], but not [name]Barney[/name]. But [name]Barney[/name] is starting to get popular.

[name]Birdie[/name] is such a cute name!

Hello! Why are boys names so hard??? Here’s my opinion, for what it is worth

[name]Clyde[/name] Singer - This is ok but I think that I agree with [name]Lyndsey[/name] that [name]Birdie[/name] and [name]Clyde[/name] sound a lot like [name]Bonnie[/name] & [name]Clyde[/name]
[name]Ira[/name] Singer - [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Ira[/name]. [name]Isaiah[/name] and [name]Isaac[/name] etc are fairly popular, why not [name]Ira[/name]? And with a more difficult to spell (for me, the spelling impaired anyway) I love a nice simple name like [name]Ira[/name] (tho all of yours fall into that category I guess)
[name]George[/name] Singer - Very handsome
[name]Holland[/name] Singer - Would stay away from this because of what everyone else said!
[name]Barnaby[/name] Singer - [name]How[/name] distinguished. Would you mind having both kiddos names start with B?

[name]George[/name] is my fave from your list. I love [name]George[/name], but is the name of an ex so it was out for us. He is blonde for me too. Here are some suggestions just for fun:

[name]Davis[/name]
[name]Edward[/name]
[name]Clark[/name]
[name]Lyle[/name]
[name]Marshall[/name]
[name]Henry[/name]
[name]Milton[/name]
[name]Charles[/name]

[name]Clyde[/name]- [name]Clyde[/name] and [name]Birdie[/name], what a pair! [name]Clyde[/name] Singer is also the most pleasing combination. I’ve never really considered [name]Clyde[/name], but he’s underused and works great in your family. I’d pick him!

[name]Ira[/name]- I do think of him like you do- dark haired, quiet, and it’s clearly a Jewish name. I believe the name means “watchful?” I think he’s cool to consider, but [name]Ira[/name] Singer and [name]Ira[/name] with [name]Birdie[/name] don’t quite click.

[name]George[/name]- This is the solid choice, and I don’t think there are many out there who wouldn’t like [name]George[/name]! [name]George[/name] and [name]Birdie[/name] don’t quite match in my mind- [name]Birdie[/name] sounds a bit less formal than [name]George[/name]. But, if I were to pick, he would be my second choice.

[name]Holland[/name]- [name]Holland[/name] doesn’t sound girly at all to me, mostly because it’s my boyfriend’s name. I wouldn’t necessarily endorse it, I’m not all that into place names, but because of him it’s one of the more tolerable ones. It suits him, anyhow. Perhaps you’d like [name]Roland[/name]?

[name]Barnaby[/name]- Oh, so cheerful! I actually think that [name]George[/name] [name]Barnaby[/name], vice versa, or a [name]George[/name] and [name]Barnaby[/name] sibset would be absolutely perfect! But that’s not really the question is it? Haha. [name]Barnaby[/name] and [name]Birdie[/name] are really cute too, if not a little matchy.

So… my vote is [name]Clyde[/name], 100%! Good luck, and happy naming

I love the name [name]Birdie[/name]! Definitely one my husband and I would have loved to use if we were expecting a girl (we have another girl named [name]Beatrice[/name]). [name]Love[/name] the boys names by the way.

clyde (for a nice, roly poly boy – don’t laugh!)-love [name]Clyde[/name] with a mn like [name]Clyde[/name] [name]Owen[/name] or [name]Clyde[/name] [name]Ewan[/name]
ira (for a dark haired kid)-[name]Ira[/name] is nice, but for some reason always makes me think of the radio personality [name]Ira[/name] Glass. Sorry just can’t get over saying [name]Ira[/name] without Glass.
george (if he’s blondish – not sure why george is blonde in my mind, but he is)-great and very regal!
holland-a little more feminine for a boy, but definitely a great sounding name
barnaby-love it!

Here are a few more suggestions:
[name]August[/name]/[name]Auguste[/name]
[name]Mace[/name]/[name]Macey[/name]
[name]Macegan[/name]/Macewan–maybe too Irish sounding if your last name is French though
[name]Cooper[/name]
[name]Egan[/name]
[name]Walter[/name]
[name]Sebastian[/name]/[name]Seb[/name]
[name]Edward[/name]

Good luck!

[name]Ira[/name] or [name]George[/name] gets my vote!

finally, someone who doesn’t dislike ira!
the ira glass connection is a funny one, as i [name]DO[/name] love ira glass. when i was younger, i imagined using glass as a middle name, after salinger’s glass family. so theoretically, i could’ve coincidentally had a kid named ira glass!

I do like [name]Ira[/name], but I just liked [name]George[/name] better. I think it would be lovely to see a little [name]Ira[/name].

I’m going to have to vote [name]Barnaby[/name] as number 1 and [name]Clyde[/name] in second place. I think [name]Barnaby[/name] is cute, energetic, yet classic and a great companion with [name]Birdie[/name]. [name]Clyde[/name] I love as an adult name fanatic but I’d worry about a [name]Clyde[/name] on the playground, plus there is the [name]Bonnie[/name] and [name]Clyde[/name] issue.

I love [name]George[/name] but I’m sorry, it’s gonna take a while for me not to associate it with [name]Bush[/name]. [name]Ira[/name] is a nice Jewish name but maybe too nice and Jewish to go with the flightly [name]Birdie[/name]. And [name]Holland[/name], yes, girly.

clyde (for a nice, roly poly boy – don’t laugh!) - tbh I’d love to see this name pick up some love and hear a baby [name_m]Clyde[/name_m] was born, and it’d be super cute on a roly poly boy lol It sounds gorgeous next to [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] and [name_m]Clyde[/name_m] Singer feels like a handsome combo. Probably my favorite choice. There might be some connection between [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] and [name_m]Clyde[/name_m] and [name_f]Bonnie[/name_f] and [name_m]Clyde[/name_m] sounding alike but I do t think it’s enough to be a concern or issue.

ira (for a dark haired kid) - I’m torn between this and [name_m]Clyde[/name_m], I love the sound of [name_u]Ira[/name_u] Singer. And [name_u]Ira[/name_u] matches [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] nicely I think.

george - Honestly [name_m]George[/name_m] Singer sounds strange to me, maybe because of the musical artists out there named [name_m]George[/name_m] idk.

holland - doesn’t match [name_f]Birdie[/name_f], does feel like a trendy girl name.

barnaby - not really feeling [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m] with [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] and it could get shortened to [name_m]Barney[/name_m] and [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] and[name_m]Barnie[/name_m] sounds too matcha cute to me.

Haha! Great post
