Hi! I’m having trouble naming a character in my novel, and thought this would be a good place to look. The setting and culture of the story is a blend between ancient Scandinavia (especially Norway), medieval England, and the ancient Celts. The character was the heir to the throne but before he was old enough to rule, a relative usurped the throne and became a sort of tyrant. His immediate family, now in hiding, still planned for him to take the throne back, and he intended to but, due to a very complicated series of events, his sisters (the main characters) ended up doing it first and splitting the kingdom between them. They didn’t kill the relative, however, and she started plotting how to take it back again, and the character, furious at having his birthright stolen from him, joins her in an attempt to dethrone his sisters.
He’s somewhere between 17 and 25 at that point, with shaggy, light brown hair, blue eyes, and a tallish, lanky frame. He’s kind of a jerk.
His name absolutely HAS to start with the letter R. I haven’t been able to find any that quite “fit.” I want something unusual, not like Richard which people would recognize immediately. I like a lot of Norse, Irish, Polish, German, and Welsh names, but I’m fine with others, or made up names too! I want something that sounds formal, upper-class, refined, fitting to his station, (melodic?), or even really, eccentrically, overly fancy! And the longer the better! Even portmanteaus like Alfhildegarde, just ideally longer than five or so letters. I like names with aesthetics like Laurent, Maverick, Evander, or Killian, but with R.
Sorry, this is really long, but thanks for the help!
