[name]Hi[/name] everyone! I just wanted your thoughts and opinions on something,
Living in the US do you like [name]Sedona[/name] or the french [name]Sidonie[/name] better? how do each of the names sound to you and do you feel that they each send off different vibes or different images?
Also how would [name]Sidonie[/name] be pronounced in the US? like [name]Si[/name]-[name]DO[/name]-knee or [name]SI[/name]-[name]DO[/name]-nee or would you almost skip over the O and say it fast so that it almost sounds like sydney? or maybe even [name]Sid[/name]-uh-nee??
I [name]Love[/name] [name]Sidonie[/name]. I do worry a bit though about people hearing it and thinking it it’s [name]Sydney[/name]. I would say it [name]Si[/name]-do-nee.
I don’t care for [name]Sedona[/name] at all, it feels a little cheap, [name]IMO[/name].
[name]Sidonie[/name], on the other hand, is beautiful! I say it “sid-on-ee”, so a [name]LITTLE[/name] like [name]Sidney[/name], but the -on is a distinct sound. I love it. You could also do [name]Sidonia[/name], kind of the best of both names.
Honestly, I think most people would pronounce [name]Sidonie[/name] as [name]Sidney[/name], assuming it is a stab at trendy spelling. If that is going to bother you, you might want to stay away from that one.
[name]Sedona[/name] sounds pretty, but reminds me too much the [name]Kia[/name] vehicle.
[name]Sidonie[/name] (I would pronounce it see-DOH-nee) I don’t like at all. It sounds awkward to me and not pretty at all. There are so many lovely french names, but this one isn’t appealing to me.
I went to college with a [name]Sidonie[/name] nn [name]Sid[/name]. I always loved her name. She pronounced it [name]Si[/name]-doh-nee. The way she pronounced it doesn’t really remind me of [name]Sydney[/name] at all, but I am sure she was confused as [name]Sydney[/name] every once and awhile. I much prefer [name]Sidonie[/name] to [name]Sedona[/name].
My daughter is a [name]Sidonie[/name]! The correct aka French pronunciation is SEE-dough-KNEE (with two accents, the first and third). It sounds super awkward to me when people say “[name]Si[/name]” instead of of “See”. Her nn is Sido by the way (just like [name]Colette[/name]'s mum!)
If you like this sort of sound, have you considered Cedonia (sĕh-d”n-ya)? Similar to [name]Sedona[/name], but to me it sounds a bit nicer, and it doesn’t have the [name]Kia[/name] association.
