Help shorten my newest girl's list

So this is my not yet reviewed girls list which I’m sort of hoping you’ll help me cut down a bit.

[name]Jemima[/name]
[name]Ophelia[/name]
[name]Zosia[/name]
[name]Estella[/name]
[name]Eilidh[/name]
[name]Amelia[/name]
[name]Ottilie[/name]
[name]Iris[/name]
[name]Cecilia[/name]
[name]Mae[/name]/[name]May[/name]
[name]Agnes[/name]
[name]Seraphine[/name]/a
[name]Greta[/name]/[name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Beatrix[/name]
[name]Lana[/name]
[name]Arabella[/name]
[name]Tara[/name]*
Tessla*
[name]Delphine[/name]*
[name]Madeleine[/name]*
[name]Tempest[/name]*
[name]Romilly[/name]*

  • are the newest, Tessla and [name]Tempest[/name] being the only ‘truly’ new ones.

Personally I’d cut the following:

[name]Zosia[/name] - [name]ZO[/name]-sha? ZOZ-ia? zo-SEE-uh?
[name]Agnes[/name] - [name]Aggie[/name] is cute, but [name]Agnes[/name] is still ‘clunky old lady’ to me
[name]Lana[/name] - Looks a bit plain
Tessla - I think of [name]Nikola[/name] Tesla straight away- X rays, electricity, radio etc. Not really a name [name]IMO[/name].
[name]Tempest[/name] - I just don’t like. Perhaps it’s the pest ending or it’s foul-weather meaning.

All the others are lovely

[name]Jemima[/name] - love it! I think it’s really pretty and seems like a name that should be more popular than what it probably is. Also I think it wins the nickname game with [name]Jem[/name] and [name]Mina[/name] being two adorable options.
[name]Ophelia[/name] - I’ve always loved this name for other people. It’s just not something I would see myself using, but I love seeing it on other people’s lists. I just came across [name]Ophelie[/name] today and I absolutely adore it. I may be adding that one to my list soon.
[name]Zosia[/name] - I’m not quite sure how to pronounce this? I’m assuming like the actress. It’s kind of pretty. Not my style. I like [name]Jemima[/name] a lot more.
[name]Estella[/name] - not a fan of this name.
[name]Eilidh[/name] - pretty sounding, but I think everyone this child ever meets with have to deal with spelling her name and saying it a few times. But it is really pretty.
[name]Amelia[/name] - love this! So pretty and classic.
[name]Ottilie[/name] - I’ve never heard of this name before and then suddenly I’m seeing it everywhere. I don’t get the appeal.
[name]Iris[/name] - not my style, but I love this for other people. I think it makes a gorgeous middle name
[name]Cecilia[/name] - A little too old lady sounding for my taste…I prefer the similar sounding [name]Amelia[/name].
[name]Mae[/name]/[name]May[/name] - I adore this in combos with three middle names. This really seems to work wonderfully as the middle name.
[name]Agnes[/name] - not my style at all
[name]Seraphine[/name]/a - love both! For which I like better, well it really depends on the combo. [name]Lana[/name] Serephine flows better than [name]Lana[/name] [name]Seraphina[/name] and [name]Seraphina[/name] [name]Tempest[/name] flows better than [name]Seraphine[/name] [name]Tempest[/name] (imo)
[name]Greta[/name]/[name]Margaret[/name] - dislike [name]Greta[/name] a lot and [name]Margaret[/name] has grown on me since I’ve fallen in love with Margaery
[name]Beatrix[/name] - not my style, but love it on other people’s lists
[name]Lana[/name] - pretty old-Hollywood feel to it
[name]Arabella[/name] - love! Works great as a fn and a mn
[name]Tara[/name] - not a fan at all
Tessla - not a fan, but I love [name]Tessa[/name]
[name]Delphine[/name] - [name]LOVE[/name]! Very pretty as a mn
[name]Madeleine[/name] - adore it!
[name]Tempest[/name] - I acutally really like this
[name]Romilly[/name] - and surprisingly I like this as well

My favorites: [name]Jemima[/name], [name]Amelia[/name], [name]Seraphine[/name]/a, [name]Beatrix[/name], [name]Tempest[/name]

[name]Ah[/name], I should have said, [name]Zosia[/name] is [name]ZO[/name]-shah.
[name]Zo[/name] rhyming with go.

I would keep…

[name]Jemima[/name]
[name]Estella[/name]
[name]Iris[/name]
[name]Cecilia[/name]
[name]Greta[/name]
[name]Beatrix[/name]
[name]Madeleine[/name]

Middle Names Only

[name]Arabella[/name]
[name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Ophelia[/name]
[name]Amelia[/name] - A lovely name but being No# 1 where I live would bother me.
[name]Eilidh[/name]
[name]Ottilie[/name]
[name]Mae[/name]
[name]Agnes[/name]
[name]Seraphine[/name]
[name]Delphine[/name]
[name]Tempest[/name]
[name]Romilly[/name]

I would eliminate…

[name]Zosia[/name] - this is very hard to say for non-Polish people. “ZAW-shah” wouldn’t be intuitive for most English speakers.
[name]Lana[/name] - The old Hollywood glamour has lost its sparkle I’m afraid.
[name]Tara[/name] - I like the Irish historical connection but I knew an irritating girl with this name so I don’t like it very much.
Tessla - I’ve seen Tesla but not spelled this way

Combo Suggestions

[name]Estella[/name] [name]Mae[/name] (although I love [name]Estella[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] in your signature!
[name]Iris[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Cecilia[/name] [name]Tempest[/name]
[name]Jemima[/name] [name]Eilidh[/name] (I love your combo of [name]Jemima[/name] [name]Celeste[/name] too).
[name]Greta[/name] [name]Delphine[/name]
[name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Eilidh[/name]

I would keep:

[name]Jemima[/name]
[name]Amelia[/name] (bit over-popular, but still I like it)
[name]Iris[/name]
[name]Cecilia[/name]
[name]Agnes[/name]
[name]Seraphine[/name]/a
[name]Greta[/name]/[name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Beatrix[/name]
[name]Madeleine[/name]*

I don’t like [name]Tempest[/name] because I wouldn’t want to name a daughter after a storm, I find [name]Tara[/name] a bit boring, Tessla sounds like the inventor, and then I find some of the spellings of a few of those names overly complicated (double letters and such). But, love those names that I left on the list above!!! All classic, mostly not over-used, and with a strength and beauty inherent to them!

Cut Out
[name]Eilidh[/name] - I think this would have issues with people saying and spelling it
[name]Agnes[/name] - This name just isn’t my style
[name]Beatrix[/name] - I prefer [name]Beatrice[/name] spelling
[name]Lana[/name] - Uhmmm… just makes me think of a snobby girl, sorry!
Tessla - I like [name]Tess[/name] or [name]Tessa[/name] but not really into Tessla, it sounds made up, even if it isn’t
[name]Tempest[/name] - I like some words as names but not this one
[name]Romilly[/name] - Hmmm… this name isn’t me, but it has the potential to grow on me

My favorites from your list:
[name]Ophelia[/name]
[name]Zosia[/name]
[name]Estella[/name]
[name]Cecilia[/name]
[name]Seraphine[/name]
[name]Madeleine[/name]

Really loving [name]Cecilia[/name], [name]Ophelia[/name], and [name]Madeleine[/name].

[name]Jemima[/name]- I never liked this because it reminds me of Aunt [name]Jemima[/name]'s maple syrup that you put on pancakes.
[name]Ophelia[/name]- Lately, I have been liking this. Not for my child, but overall it is a cute name.
[name]Zosia[/name]- I have noooo idea how to pronounce this. It could be interesting, but realize that your child will be faced with,“sorry, how do you say your name?” her whole life.
[name]Estella[/name]- I loved this when I was a little girl, and I sort of grew out of it. I still think the name is rarely used but not weird.
[name]Eilidh[/name]- Yeah I don’t know how to say this. Interesting though.
[name]Amelia[/name]- Cute name. I have always sort of liked this.
[name]Ottilie[/name]- I see this on nameberry but I never knew how to pronounce it.
[name]Iris[/name]- Old fashioned and definitely not my style but cute. I can see this mostly as a middle name.
[name]Cecilia[/name]- I never liked this, too old fashioned.
[name]Mae[/name]/[name]May[/name]- I always liked [name]Mae[/name]/[name]May[/name]. I thought it was cute from the first time I heard it.
[name]Agnes[/name]- Never liked it. St. [name]Agnes[/name] was rivals of my elementary school in sports. (I went to Catholic School)
[name]Seraphine[/name]/a- I have loved [name]Seraphina[/name] from the first time I saw it. I don’t know why, but I just think it is absolutely gorgeous and elegant.
[name]Greta[/name]/[name]Margaret[/name]- Too plain.
[name]Beatrix[/name]- Never liked it.
[name]Lana[/name]- Obsessed. My guily pleasure [name]Lana[/name]. Name your daughter this please;) haha I just love it.
[name]Arabella[/name]- Another guilty pleasure. Wow, I may name my daughter [name]Lana[/name] [name]Arabella[/name] now. Thank you very much.
[name]Tara[/name]- Never liked it, too plain.
Tessla
- This reminds me of geometry class learning about tessalations. Sorry if I ruined it.
[name]Delphine[/name]- Nahhh, I never liked it.
[name]Madeleine[/name]
- Cute little girl’s name.
[name]Tempest[/name]- This is one of those non-names for me. I never could see anyone with this name.
[name]Romilly[/name]
- It’s okay. I’m pretty neutral with it.

I’d take out:

[name]Eilidh[/name] - unless you are living in [name]Ireland[/name], it’s just not worth the trouble
[name]Amelia[/name] - [name]Amelia[/name] bores the hell out of me. It always has. I can’t explain why.
[name]Cecilia[/name] - There is something profoundly fussy and prissy-sounding about this name. I think it’s the s sounds combined with the “lya” sound.
[name]Mae[/name]/[name]May[/name] - boring
[name]Lana[/name] - I think it looks incomplete. I like [name]Lana[/name], but I think I like it better as short for something.
[name]Arabella[/name] - To me, this is a way to sneak in a -bella without using the ultra-popular [name]Isabella[/name]. So to me it’s kind of cheating. LOL
[name]Tara[/name]* - dated and unappealing
Tessla* - As Tesla, I think, hm, ok, it’s a bad 80s rock band but it’s also [name]Nikola[/name], so maaaybe. As Tessla, it’s like a [name]Tessa[/name]/Tesla hybrid of wrongness
[name]Madeleine[/name]* - it’s been done to death
[name]Tempest[/name]* - it comes off down-market to me

The rest I love.

[name]Ophelia[/name] - very pretty, this is my neighbors name.
[name]Beatrix[/name] - love! beautiful
[name]Amelia[/name] - love! gorgeous
[name]Iris[/name] - very pretty
[name]Greta[/name]/[name]Margaret[/name] - I really really like [name]Greta[/name], so cute
[name]Madeleine[/name] - very pretty, rather popular but a nice name
[name]Mae[/name]/[name]May[/name] - very pretty, but rather simple compared to your others

[name]Romilly[/name]- all I hear is [name]Romney[/name]
[name]Jemima[/name] - it’s a pretty name but all I can think of is the syrup
Tessla - unless you’re really committed to the scientist, I’d steer clear
[name]Tempest[/name] - I know people like this one, but to me it’s like naming your kid hurricane

Keep:
[name]Beatrix[/name]
[name]Greta[/name]/[name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Ophelia[/name]
[name]Amelia[/name]
[name]Seraphina[/name]
[name]Delphine[/name]
