Help! So undecided!

I am 2 and a half weeks away from my due date for our little boy and we still can’t decide on a name! Up until last night we had a top 3 which was fine with me as I figure once he’s born something would sound right from that top 3 and we’d just have a name.

Then last night we were discussing names and started searching for more and added 4 more to our list, names that my partner had previously not liked he now loves. We were also certain we wanted his middle name to be Martinus which is the dutch version of [name_m]Martin[/name_m] (after my grandpa) although we have been discussing using [name_m]Martin[/name_m] if it suits better. I’d just like some opinions on our names if that’s possible!

Our original top 3:

[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] Martinus Cabandon - We both love this name, however we both see it as a back up to our individual favourite. We love that we could nickname him [name_u]Teddy[/name_u], but don’t love the nickname [name_u]Theo[/name_u] which is probably what he will get called at school.

[name_m]Atticus[/name_m] Martinus Cabandon - This is my first choice. To Kill A Mockingbird is my favourite book and recently my partner watched the movie with me and loved it. He likes the name but isn’t in love. I love the association with the book and the strong character. I’d be open to switching out Martinus with [name_m]Martin[/name_m] as I’m not sure about the two ‘us’ endings.

[name_m]Evander[/name_m] Martinus Cabandon - This is my partner’s first choice but I don’t love it. We both like the nickname [name_u]Van[/name_u] for this name but I’m not in love with the full version and my partner doesn’t like just [name_u]Van[/name_u]. I’m not a fan of it with our last name either.

[name_m]New[/name_m] Names:

[name_m]Fox[/name_m] Martinus Cabandon - We both really love [name_m]Fox[/name_m]. Last night my partner heard it together with [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] ([name_m]Atlas[/name_m] [name_m]Fox[/name_m]) and loved the two together. I’m not sure I love [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] as much as I love [name_m]Fox[/name_m]. The problem with this name is am I confident enough to name my child [name_m]Fox[/name_m]? I shouldn’t let other’s influence our decision but it is something you worry about. [name_m]Will[/name_m] my kid get picked on for having such a strange name?

[name_m]Miller[/name_m] Martinus Cabandon - I don’t love this name but my partner does. For me it’s just too plain. I’m more partial to uncommon/unique names (with [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] being the exception). This one can probably be crossed off as I don’t think it would be an option for me.

[name_u]Arlo[/name_u] Martinus Cabandon - We both really like [name_u]Arlo[/name_u] however my partner’s brother-in-law is called [name_m]Carlo[/name_m] and I’m not sure how I feel about using [name_u]Arlo[/name_u] because of this. We see each other frequently so it might be a problem for me.

[name_m]Wilder[/name_m] Martinus Cabandon - We are both in love with [name_m]Wilder[/name_m]. I mentioned this name to my partner months ago and he didn’t like it because he associated it with that [name_u]Ryan[/name_u] [name_m]Reynolds[/name_m] movie [name_u]Van[/name_u] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m]. But now he seems to love it. But again I wonder if it might be too out-there.

On top of all of that, my partner now also really likes [name_m]Fox[/name_m] as a middle name if we weren’t to use it as a first name. Example [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] [name_m]Fox[/name_m] or [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_m]Fox[/name_m] etc. He was the one set on using Martinus my whole pregnancy and because of that we have told our family that his middle name is 100% Martinus and that’s all we’ve been sure on. My partner suggested double middle names ([name_m]Fox[/name_m]-Martinus) but I’m not sure about that.

All in all I’m very confused and wondering if my baby is ever going to have a name! Send help! I’m open to suggestions!!!

P.S Sorry for the super long post…

My favorite of those is [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]! I don’t think you should worry about him being called [name_u]Theo[/name_u] if you don’t want him to. I think [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] is one of those names that everyone expects a nickname for, so if he goes by Ted/[name_u]Teddy[/name_u] I think it would stick quite well.

I don’t think you can go wrong with any of your options, but I agree that if you decide to go with [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] then you should use [name_m]Martin[/name_m] instead because of the endings. Good luck!

I like [name_m]Fox[/name_m]. It’s short and perfect with 2 longer names following.

[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] or [name_m]Atticus[/name_m]

I adore both [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_m]Martin[/name_m] and [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_m]Fox[/name_m], and I think if both middles were used, [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_m]Martin[/name_m] [name_m]Fox[/name_m] would be a smashing combo! Good luck on finding the perfect name!

Oh gosh, I love so many of your choices, particularly [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] and [name_m]Fox[/name_m]. [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] I am seeing a LOT on these boards and wonder whether it’s about to take off in a big way!

[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] Martinus Cabandon is just so great though that I’m really getting stuck there. [name_u]Love[/name_u] the repeating three syllables, love the TMC initials, love [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] Cabandon for the short version!

I like your original three names the most.

Also, I wouldn’t worry too much about changing the middle name if that is what you decide to do. I think everyone who has had a baby will know that even if a name was 100% before the baby arrived, can change once you meet him. It will be the first of a long list of things that you will do that you said “I’ll never do _ _ _ when I have a baby.”

Your list seems to be evolving so I just want to offer up [name_m]Donavan[/name_m]. [name_m]Donavan[/name_m] Martinus Cabandon sounds great and you both still get to use [name_u]Van[/name_u].

[name_m]Evander[/name_m]. Far and away. [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] and [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] are also nice, but not in the same camp as [name_m]Evander[/name_m] to me. It is unusual but recognizable, easily spelled and pronounced, and comes with a very cool built in nickname.

You could probably eliminate a couple of your new ideas, though. I am thinking particularly of [name_m]Miller[/name_m] which I think you find boring and [name_m]Fox[/name_m], which, despite the exotic draw, I think would make you uncomfortable in the long haul.

I love [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_m]Martin[/name_m] Cabandon - [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] Cabandon sounds so unique and masculine! I also like [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] Cabandon, although I wouldn’t pair it with [name_m]Fox[/name_m], as [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] [name_m]Fox[/name_m] makes me think of a fox that is…well, wilder than other foxes lol. I would say go with [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_m]Martin[/name_m] or [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] Martinus.
