Help us choose a name for our baby girl

We have narrowed our first name choices to [name_f]Zoe[/name_f], [name_u]Haley[/name_u], or [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]. We would love to hear your opinions and would like suggestions on middle names. Also the last name is one syllable if that helps. Thanks:)

Because your last name is only one syllable, I would tend to pick [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] out of your three favorites (I’m assuming you’ll pronounce it [name_m]Zo[/name_m]-ee). [name_u]Haley[/name_u] would be my second choice.

As for middle names, I have no idea what you might be looking for… some people like to go a little wild with middles and some people like to use honor names. Other just use “safe” names like [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Marie[/name_f], and [name_u]Leigh[/name_u]. Hard to know what to suggest.

I also like [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] best and agree [name_u]Haley[/name_u] is probably next best for flow with a one syllable last name. [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] has much more history as a female first name than [name_u]Haley[/name_u] or [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] so you will find most folks on these forums voting for that although [name_u]Haley[/name_u] and [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] are both reasonable choices.

With a 2 syllable first name and one syllable last name I’d look for a 3+ syllable middle. Something with other Greek roots might be neat - [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] [name_f]Helena[/name_f] “life light” or [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f] “life resurrection” if that religious imagery is OK by you.

Agreed that if your last name is one syllable, I’d go with your two-syllable choices, [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] or [name_f]Hayley[/name_f].

Give us more to work from to suggest middle names! What are you going for with a middle name? [name_f]Honor[/name_f] someone? Something you were too afraid to pick for a first name? I’m thinking that if you go with a two-syllable first name and you have a one-syllable last name, I would go with a three-syllable middle name since that would flow really nicely. E.g. “[name_f]Hayley[/name_f] [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_m]Smith[/name_m]” sounds better than “[name_f]Zoe[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_m]Smith[/name_m]” to me, purely based on the number of syllables (I’m using [name_m]Smith[/name_m] as an imaginary last name so I can think about how it flows). Although without taking the last name into consideration, I suppose it doesn’t matter so much (e.g. [name_f]Hayley[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] on it’s own sounds good, in terms of the syllable flow). And also, I’d say avoid repeating the ending “y” sound of [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] and [name_f]Hayley[/name_f] if you do end up choosing one of those.

I can’t tell too much about your naming taste based on the three choices you shared, but here are some three syllable MNs that don’t end in a “y” sound to consider that might go either with [name_f]Hayley[/name_f] or [name_f]Zoe[/name_f]:
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]
[name_f]Annelise[/name_f]/[name_f]Annalise[/name_f]/[name_f]Anneliese[/name_f]
[name_f]Annika[/name_f]
[name_f]Avalon[/name_f]
[name_f]Aveline[/name_f]
[name_f]Aviva[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Clementine[/name_f]
[name_f]Coraline[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Isabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Lorelei[/name_f]
[name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]
[name_f]Miriam[/name_f]
[name_f]Paloma[/name_f]
[name_f]Ramona[/name_f]
[name_f]Susannah[/name_f]
[name_f]Theodora[/name_f]

I love the name [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] and its meaning and the combo I suggest is [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f].
