DH and I got in another name discussion and we’ve hit a brick wall. I’m hoping you guys have some suggestions or ways we can compromise… Not currently expecting, but hey…
DH LOVES [name_m]Liam[/name_m]. He won’t let it go. It’s nice enough, I guess. I’m just not really a fan. It doesn’t feel like a name to me, not to mention I know way too many and have heard this name screeched across my workplace (store) countless times. When pressed, he said that it mainly likes it because it sounds cool and Irish. Okay… I brought up [name_m]Callum[/name_m], which was an old favorite of ours, and he said he still loves it but just likes [name_m]Liam[/name_m] more.
I feel like, if we’d have a son and name him [name_m]Liam[/name_m], I’d spend my life regretting his name whenever I’d say it or think of it. In hopes of avoiding this, does anyone have any suggestions that my husband might go for? He likes Irish names (or what I consider ‘Irish names used in [name_u]America[/name_u]’ names) and names that have a ‘cool’ factor to them. We’ve already ruled out [name_m]Connor[/name_m], mainly because it clashes badly with our surname.
I really like [name_m]Ivan[/name_m] from your signature. It does sound somewhat similar to [name_m]Liam[/name_m] but is less popular. Does your husband like it?
Some names similar to [name_m]Liam[/name_m]:
[name_m]Leon[/name_m]
[name_u]Lennon[/name_u]
[name_m]Lenny[/name_m]
[name_u]Lennox[/name_u]
[name_m]Lucas[/name_m]
[name_m]Levi[/name_m]
[name_u]Lee[/name_u]
[name_m]Eli[/name_m]/[name_u]Elias[/name_u]/[name_m]Elijah[/name_m]/[name_u]Elliot[/name_u]
[name_m]Milo[/name_m]/[name_m]Miles[/name_m]
[name_u]Salem[/name_u]
[name_m]Emil[/name_m]
[name_u]James[/name_u]/[name_u]Jamie[/name_u]
I don’t think you should use [name_m]Liam[/name_m] if you feel you’re going to regret it. [name_m]William[/name_m] “[name_m]Liam[/name_m]” might be an option if you like [name_m]William[/name_m], or something like [name_u]Lee[/name_u] [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] “[name_m]Liam[/name_m]”.
@moonstone: [name_m]Ivan[/name_m] was another one of his favorites that I’m not sold on, but I can tolerate it more than [name_m]Liam[/name_m], so it made the list, haha. I really like many of your suggestions! [name_u]Salem[/name_u] is very intriguing! I like it, though I wonder if we can use it… [name_m]Milo[/name_m] is great and I really like [name_m]Emil[/name_m] I love [name_u]James[/name_u], but we have a nephew by that name…we’d consider it as a mn though, as it is DH’s mn as well. I like [name_m]William[/name_m] but it just doesn’t jump out at me, honestly. Thank you!
@erin beth: Ooh, I like several of those! I think my husband will like them, too! Thank you!!
They’ve already been mentioned but [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] and [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] immediately came to mind as names in a similar vein that you might like.
@tfzolghadr: I think you’ve nailed our style pretty well…lol. Several of these, we’ve discussed before! I’ll have to see his current feelings on them, but I totally forgot about them. I love Declan, Sullivan, Connelly, Seamus, McCoy, Rourke, Ronan, Beckett, Cormac, Beckett, Malcolm, Lachlan, and Teague! I like the Fin- names, but an aunt recently adopted twin boys and named one Finn, so that’s off the table for us Campbell is great, but one of my sisters has liked that name for years, so she can have it. I do like it though! Thanks so much!
@scsmith812: Ooh, I like Leander! Leo is a cute nn, for it, too! It sort of clashes with our surname (which also ends with an -er), but it being 3 syllables might actually help it work with our 2-syllable surname. Thank you!
@greta-elizabeth: I love Sean, Cillian, Shay, and Mark! Thank you!
@mamanamer: Those names are definitely in line with what we are looking for thank you!
@alliegator: I totally get what you are saying. I hadn’t thought about that before, but it could very well work! Thank you
What about [name_m]Colin[/name_m]/[name_m]Collin[/name_m]? More popular than [name_m]Callum[/name_m], less popular than [name_m]Liam[/name_m] and an irish favorite
I love the suggestion of [name_m]Cormac[/name_m]. Its a great name, cool sound, nn [name_m]Mack[/name_m] if you’re into that, definitely irish. And extra bonus because it is not so overdone like [name_m]Liam[/name_m] is.
I really like the suggestions of [name_m]Colm[/name_m] and [name_m]Cormac[/name_m]. They have the same cool factor as [name_m]Liam[/name_m] but aren’t as used, and are still Irish. I think they fit your partner’s criteria.
[name_u]Finley[/name_u]/[name_u]Finlay[/name_u] is a nice suggestion! My favourite boys name is [name_m]Torin[/name_m]/[name_m]Toryn[/name_m] which is a more uncommon Irish name here in the States!
I love [name_m]Liam[/name_m] and would have considered it if I had a boy. [name_m]Callum[/name_m] just reminds me of talcum powder for some odd reason.
