I voted for [name]Greta[/name].
[name]Katrien[/name] doesn’t have an intuitive spelling or pronunciation. [name]How[/name] do you pronounce it? From what I can google, it is a Dutch name. I get the appeal, and I have a little [name]German[/name] [name]Katharina[/name], but unless you are in the Netherlands, this one seems like it would be a lot of trouble.
[name]Greta[/name] is already a nickname for [name]Margaret[/name] or [name]Margareta[/name], so I don’t see why it needs one. You could use [name]Daisy[/name], which is another nickname for [name]Margaret[/name].
I voted for [name]Greta[/name] as well. To echo what truffle said, [name]Katrien[/name] doesn’t have an intuitive spelling or pronunciation. I agree on the nickname aspect too. [name]Greta[/name] is only two syllables. It doesn’t need a nickname.
[name]Greta[/name] and if you want [name]Katrien[/name] why not go for [name]Katrina[/name] and everyone can say it properly then?
I’m a big fan of [name]Greta[/name]. I think as she grows you’ll discover nicknames that you never knew were there. That has definitely been the case in my family.
Since [name]Greta[/name] is already a nickname for [name]Margaret[/name], I don’t think it needs a nickname. Out of the two name you have, I prefer [name]Greta[/name], though if I’m completely honest, I prefer [name]Margaret[/name] ([name]Marguerite[/name], [name]Margarita[/name]) with the nickname [name]Greta[/name].
I voted for [name]Greta[/name]… pretty much agree with all others comments…
[name]How[/name] about [name]Gretchen[/name] nn [name]Greta[/name]?
[name]Greta[/name]! Hands down!
I prefer [name]Greta[/name]. I agree with two pp’s - it doesn’t really need a nn and also, [name]Gretchen[/name] is cute for [name]Greta[/name], although it makes the name longer and historically it’s another nickname for [name]Margaret[/name]/[name]Margret[/name] (-chen is a [name]German[/name] suffix meaning “little” for those who didn’t know), so on some levels it’s not completely intuitive. I wouldn’t mind at all though.
It’s a stretch, but I can see
[name]Gigi[/name] (from the letter G)
[name]Gia[/name] (from the same logic)
[name]Rhett[/name] (although I don’t like it on a girl so much because of Rett’s syndrome, but that’s my weird medical knowledge speaking)
[name]Reta[/name]/[name]Rita[/name] (another [name]Margaret[/name] nickname).
I also really like [name]Greta[/name].
[name]Etta[/name] and [name]Gigi[/name] are the only nick names I think would fit. However I think not having a nick name would be better.
I think [name]Greta[/name] is very pretty.
Definitely [name]Greta[/name]!
I love the way [name]Katrien[/name] looks but the pronunciation isn’t obvious, like [name]Greta[/name]. Go for [name]Greta[/name].
I guess I’m the odd one out because I adore [name]Katrien[/name]! It’s so sweet, European, and novel, and I would love to meet a little [name]Katrien[/name]. I think whatever nicknames you use ([name]Kate[/name] and [name]Wren[/name] were my first ideas) will make it more accessible, too. I think it’s lovely!
Good luck!
I voted for [name]Greta[/name].
Agree with comments on [name]Katrien[/name].
I like nicknames; it doesn’t have to be shorter, to me it is a sign of affection - a ‘pet’ name. What about [name]Ettie[/name]? Previous suggestions of [name]Etta[/name] & [name]Gigi[/name] I like too.
[name]Greta[/name]! What about [name]Gertie[/name] as a nickname? Same number of syllables, but feels a little lighter than [name]Greta[/name].
Another [name]Greta[/name] fan, also like the suggestion of fn [name]Gretchen[/name] with nn [name]Greta[/name]
Thanks for all the replies and feedback so far!
I vote [name]Katrin[/name] with nickname Katta. We had a [name]Katrin[/name] at my highschool she was really sweet. That is how she spelled and pronounced it cat- trin.
It’s looking like [name]Greta[/name] is winning hands down.
Thanks for all the replies so far.
Actually, we may very well relocate to the Netherlands at the end of this year or in fall! Which is also a reason why I’ve opened up my options and found [name]Katrien[/name].
