Hello! I’m really hoping some of you can help me out. Our baby girl is due early [name_f]October[/name_f] and DH and I can not decide on a name at all.
Our style has the classic/elegant vibe. My two boy’s names are [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] ([name_u]Sam[/name_u]), and [name_m]Joshua[/name_m] [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] jr. ([name_m]Jack[/name_m]). My two year old girl’s name is Geneviève [name_f]Grace[/name_f]. ([name_f]GiGi[/name_f]) All of their names have important meaning to us. Ex- [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] means heard by god, [name_m]Joshua[/name_m] is a family name, and [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] means “White wave” and we also liked the connection to St. Geneviève.
We can’t use a name with [name_f]Ann[/name_f] or [name_f]Mary[/name_f] in it because too many family members that have it. I liked [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] but husband thinks it sounds too plain. We both loved [name_f]Emmanuelle[/name_f] and that was the only name we agreed on but then I found out that there’s an inappropriate movie associated with it. That definitely changed my mind and it’s the first thing that pops up when you google search [name_f]Emmanuelle[/name_f]. Figures, lol!
Anyway, we’re in desperate need of help. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you have any elegant/classic names that goes well with our sib-set? I’d love to hear some ideas!
I like [name_f]Emmanuelle[/name_f]. I think it is a little more adventurous a choice than your other son’s names, but more because it’s not as popular. I’ve never heard of the inappropriate film and my friend named her daughter [name_f]Emmanuelle[/name_f] last year. However, if the film makes this name a deal-breaker, here are some alternatives: [name_u]Emanual[/name_u], [name_f]Emanuela[/name_f], [name_f]Emanuella[/name_f], [name_f]Emanuelle[/name_f], [name_f]Emmanuella[/name_f], [name_f]Emonualle[/name_f], [name_f]Manuella[/name_f], [name_f]Manuelle[/name_f].
I’m not great at making suggestions if you don’t already have a list going, but there are other berries who I know could help you with that!
I agree with you that [name_f]Emmanuelle[/name_f] is out. You don’t want your child googling their name and that’s the first thing that pops up. I second the suggestion of [name_f]Emmanuella[/name_f]. It’s super close to [name_f]Emmanuelle[/name_f] and has the same meaning but w/o the movie association. Plus I love the nn [name_f]Ella[/name_f] or [name_f]Emmy[/name_f].
If you like [name_f]Emmanuelle[/name_f] and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], you might like [name_f]Eleanora[/name_f] or [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]. Other suggestions:
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] ([name_f]Trixie[/name_f] would be sweet with [name_f]Gigi[/name_f]!)
[name_f]Maude[/name_f]
[name_f]Amabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] (couldn’t call her [name_f]Cece[/name_f], though, you would have to use [name_f]Celia[/name_f] for short)
[name_f]Helena[/name_f] ([name_f]Lena[/name_f] is a sweet nn)
[name_f]Marcella[/name_f] (here you could get [name_f]Ella[/name_f] or [name_f]Elle[/name_f])
[name_f]Marcheline[/name_f]
[name_f]Angelica[/name_f]
[name_f]Florentina[/name_f]
[name_f]Valentina[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmanuelle[/name_f] is practically the only girl name my husband likes, and I adore it too! I figured out about the other association, but I think it’s far enough removed (over 20 years and in [name_f]France[/name_f]) that it is totally worth using! I love it for a middle name too! Since you like names with biblical ties (as do I!) how about:
Wow, thanks for the suggestions so far! I really like [name_f]Emmanuella[/name_f]. Someome made a good point about it standing out from my other children. Maybe I’ll think about that one some more.
[name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f]- This one’s really cute. Does it go with our sib-set or will it stand out too much aswell?
[name_f]Theodora[/name_f]- This is also cute, but everytime I hear [name_f]Dora[/name_f] I think of the TV show.
[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]- I like it! Unfortunately, some of my in-laws don’t really listen when it comes to nicknames. They would call her [name_f]CeCe[/name_f] anyway and just confuse us all.
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f]- I’ve actually never heard this before! [name_m]How[/name_m] do you pronounce it? Does it rhyme with [name_f]Melody[/name_f] or is it eh-low-dee?
Thanks ladies! All these names are very pretty. Sorry if it sounds like I’m complaining. Guess I’m a little picky I’d love to hear more!
[name_m]Just[/name_m] saw your post! Yay! We have similar tastes! I didn’t really know that much about the film but I’m glad it’s not that popular/dated. That makes me feel better. Maybe I freaked out for nothing haha. Like another poster suggested, I could always change the spelling.
My favorites biblical names you listed are [name_f]Selah[/name_f], [name_f]Adah[/name_f], [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f], and [name_f]Hannah[/name_f]. But, if my husband thought [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] was boring there’s no telling how he’d feel about [name_f]Hannah[/name_f].
We were talking about using another virtue middle name like what we did with [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] so I’m glad you reminded me! [name_f]Honor[/name_f] and [name_f]Faith[/name_f] are nice!
Thank you! That was very informative. I appreciate it!
If you could see past the association, [name_f]Emmanuelle[/name_f] sounds beautiful with your other childrens names
Others that are of a similar vibe -
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Juliette[/name_f]
[name_f]Primrose[/name_f]
[name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Francesca[/name_f]
ahahhaa yes, the inappropriate film is definitely the first thing to come to my mind (also because I accidently saw parts of the film when I was about 9, talk about inappropriate). I think it’s pretty normal in france? I would check how it rates there, I really don’t think the film should deter you. It’s a 70s thing so by time your girl will be a grown up it will be ooooold news. And it’s not a bad movie! at least it’s a classic
I think elenoire is the name for you: [name_m]French[/name_m] like genevieve, a little more spicy than [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f].
