We’re about to be parents for the second and third time (also, the last time! HA). Our twin daughters will arrive in [name_u]October[/name_u].
Sometimes even I don’t understand the naming debate we have going on, so hopefully this will make sense for everyone.
We always thought and loved the name [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] for a girl. 11 years ago, when we were expecting our son [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] was the girl option that stuck with us and it feels like now it will be her time to shine.
[name_f]My[/name_f] husband has two family names that he wants to include somewhere, ideally for baby girl B: [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]. Good, solid names… it should be a non-issue, but I don’t like [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] as much as he does. [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] is better IMHO. I also like that he’s suggesting it in honor of his aunt, who is a lovely person and a godmother to [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m].
I have offered alternatives so we can both really “love” both names. [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and perhaps [name_f]Leonora[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] (both reflect parts of our heritage and languages we speak in our families). The “international” versions have been accepted, but my husband refuses to be fully on board with one of the four names for baby B. Now he’s also thinking we should just ditch [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] and start from zero.
This twin naming adventure is frustrating me (not really… but yeah).
What are your thoughts? Which would be your favorite pairing? Which would you keep and which would you toss?
I absolutely love all the names your discussing currently they are all stunning.
[name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] is beautiful very underused currently I have not met a baby [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] and with having a one year old I frequent lots of places for kids. This also goes for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Leonora[/name_f] & [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f]. [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] was the name of my baby that I sadly lost so she’s very dear to me. [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is my daughter’s middle name and is an honour too. [name_f]Leonora[/name_f] is also an honour name that I adore. [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] & [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] are stunning too. [name_m]Ah[/name_m] no wonder your struggling to many perfect names!!!
Okay moving away from my crushing what is is about these names that you/your partner are not on board with? I think analysing these names would actually really help narrow down your options and discover what you do like & do not like. I would make a pros & cons list about each name.
I think partner sounds a little frustrated with the whole naming dilemma and maybe that’s why he’s throwing away the idea of [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] with the concept of starting from zero. Maybe he’s finding this naming process a lot which even as a name nerd I would too. Naming twins is hardcore!! I found naming just one kiddo very tough. I would keep [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] on the table still loving a name for 11 years is such a long time to now remove her from consideration. Does [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] have a middle name? Maybe if [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] had the middle name [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] this would please your partner? [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is very pretty! I would name twin A this.
I love both [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] & [name_f]Leonora[/name_f] they are just stunning and have featured on my extensive list of favourites. However I think I find [name_f]Leonora[/name_f] more sparkly she’s just so beautiful a wonderful honour for [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] but also a great twin name to [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f]. I love that [name_f]Leonora[/name_f] matches [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] visually with her length along with ‘a’ ending, comes with lots of nicknames and is just as elegant. For the middle name of [name_f]Leonora[/name_f] I actually love the idea of using an ‘e’ name to really drone home that honour of Auntie [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]! Maybe [name_f]Leonora[/name_f] [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] (getting in that variant you like), [name_f]Leonora[/name_f] [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], [name_f]Leonora[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f], [name_f]Leonora[/name_f] [name_f]Enid[/name_f], [name_f]Leonora[/name_f] [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] or [name_f]Leonora[/name_f] [name_f]Edith[/name_f]. From this list I’m like [name_f]Leonora[/name_f] [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]! She’s so elegant really pays homage to your beloved family member and matches visually well with [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].
Have you considered [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]? It’s short looking but still three syllables. I have a sister with twin girls - [name_f]Alexa[/name_f] and [name_f]Paige[/name_f], but [name_f]Alexa[/name_f] always goes by [name_u]Lexi[/name_u] and I have noticed that since they are twins and do everything together their names are said together A LOT. So are you open to nicknames being used? Maybe [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] and [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] - and [name_u]Lexi[/name_u] and [name_f]Liza[/name_f] for short? But I definitely understand if you don’t like nicknames (I’m that way myself). In which case [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] and [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] still aren’t too long to pull off. I feel like [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] paired with [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] feels a bit long. Another option is to use [name_f]Norah[/name_f] (which I love!). [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] and [name_f]Norah[/name_f] to me sound like an amazing sibset for twins. Maybe something like:
[name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]
And
[name_f]Norah[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] that’s helpful and good luck!
Congratulations on your upcoming twins! You all must be thrilled !
I love Sebastian’s name and think it works perfectly with [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] ! I think [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] is beautiful and it also gives you a name you love with a compromise name
I love [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] and [name_f]Leonora[/name_f] but for me if the name is after someone I would use the actual name
[name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] , [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] and [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] seem so perfect to me
Perhaps [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] (or [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] instead) would be a good pairing? Those would be so charming on two twin girls. That would be my personal pick, and then [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] could potentially be used as a middle name!
[name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] are lovely together as well, and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_f]Beth[/name_f], [name_f]Bess[/name_f], [name_f]Libby[/name_f], [name_f]Lizzie[/name_f], [name_f]Busy[/name_f], etc. would be a great middle name option!
I would keep [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] has sooooo many nicknames, that I’m sure there’s one you’ll like. Some even overlap with nn’s for [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] like Elle/Ellie. That is of course, if you like using nicknames lol.
[name_f]My[/name_f] only other suggestions would be keep [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] and add either [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] or [name_f]Victoria[/name_f].
I apologize for not replying to all of you sooner. I read all your replies and shared it with Mr. Sipolily, hoping that we’ll get our naming mojo back. I am grateful for your suggestions and thoughts, and didn’t want to just abandon the topic before sending a message of apprecition.
Congratulations on twin girls. I love Sebastian as a name, so strong and handsome.
Alexandra is a good, strong name that stands up to be able to pair with Sebastian. Depending on what you languages you speak, you could use the international spelling of Alexandra.
