Help us name this baby girl please!

My husband and I are stuck between two names: [name]Mia[/name] and [name]Mila[/name]. We are leaning strongly toward [name]Mila[/name] (pronounced MEE-la) because of [name]Mia[/name]'s rising popularity. Three questions and I’d love your opinion!

  1. Our last name is pronounced “mars-kuh.” Any reservations about the two names together? Our last name is a little bit tough to spell/say, so do you think it’s cruel to add [name]Mila[/name] to that, when some people might mispronounce it “[name]Myla[/name]”?

  2. We’re looking for a middle name for [name]Mila[/name]. So far we like “[name]Rose[/name],” but I’d also love suggestions for flowy, longer middle names. (I like [name]Everly[/name], but it’s been vetoed by the husband. Suggestions for something similar would be great!)

  3. We have a son named [name]Weston[/name]. [name]Do[/name] the names go together okay?

I’d love to hear what you think about the name!

I think [name]Mila[/name] is beautiful! And not hard to pronounce…since [name]Mila[/name] Kunis has become so famous I think It’s helped people know how to say the name.

I love [name]Mila[/name] [name]Leilani[/name]! I think it’s gorgeous! Good [name]Luck[/name]!

The popularity of [name]Mila[/name] is also going to rise due to recent spotlight on [name]Mila[/name] Kunis, and her recent movies and such, and I can only see it getting bigger. That’s how many people know the name, which is both a blessing and a curse. It will be pronounced Mee-La most often, but it’s a very public name now, and that means other parents will find it just as appealing as you do. If you want a name that you won’t see everywhere, I’d look elsewhere.

  1. [name]Mila[/name] “[name]Mars[/name]-kuh” sounds better than [name]Mia[/name] “[name]Mars[/name]-kuh” [name]Mila[/name] isn’t hard to say. It’s said how it’s spelled, and [name]Mila[/name] Kunis has popularized the pronunciation. [name]Mia[/name] just smooshes into the surname too much.

  2. [name]Mila[/name] [name]Rose[/name] is nice. What about [name]Mila[/name] [name]Rosalie[/name]? [name]Mila[/name] Rosmine? [name]Mila[/name] [name]Eveline[/name]? [name]Mila[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name]? [name]Mila[/name] [name]Everette[/name]? [name]Mila[/name] Evania?

  3. [name]Mila[/name] and [name]Weston[/name] is a bit off, but not too off. [name]Mia[/name] and [name]Weston[/name] match better.

All being said, [name]Mia[/name] is not a bad name. It could work just as well as [name]Mila[/name]. [name]Mila[/name] could even go by [name]Mia[/name] from time to time if you really wanted.

[name]Mila[/name]! sounds more delicate, if you ask me. and don’t worry too much about its popularity.

[name]Just[/name] a thought, how about [name]Amelia[/name] [name]Rose[/name] nn [name]Mila[/name]? [name]Amelia[/name] is an easy spell and say.
Personally, I am not a celeb watcher, so have no idea who the [name]Mila[/name] lady any pp mentioned is.
At first glance I said “My-lah”.

I love [name]Mila[/name], I have only known it as a nn for [name]Ludmila[/name] when I lived in [name]Russia[/name]. Its tremendously popular there, of course, but oh so pretty and means graceful.

The Pushkin poem Ruslan and [name]Ludmila[/name] is such an epic fairy tale…

I vote [name]Mila[/name].

I really like [name]Mia[/name] with your last name. [name]Mia[/name] [name]Rosalie[/name] would be so pretty, as another poster suggested for a mn. Also, [name]Mia[/name] and [name]Weston[/name] go well as a sibset.

I agree with @kyemsma. I’ve never really seen the appeal behind [name]Mila[/name] (it’s always felt too harsh and exotic for me), but I like [name]Mia[/name] a lot. I think [name]Weston[/name] and [name]Mia[/name] are adorable as siblings and [name]Mia[/name] “Marskah” sounds so much sweeter to me than [name]Mila[/name] “Marskah” (which I consequently find harder to say). I think something like [name]Emilia[/name]/[name]Amelia[/name] would be ideal–she’d have a less common full name to fall back on and you could easily use either [name]Mia[/name] or [name]Mila[/name] as a nn, whichever suited her better. I think [name]Emilia[/name] [name]Rose[/name]/[name]Emilia[/name] [name]Rosalie[/name]/[name]Mia[/name] [name]Rosalie[/name] is lovely.

Good luck!

I like [name]Mia[/name] [name]Rosalie[/name]…it sounds nice with [name]Weston[/name]…
