Ok I voted for [name_f]Isla[/name_f] and that’s because I think it would be a good middle name for [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], [name_f]Audrey[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Mabel[/name_f]. I think these names go really good with [name_f]Adeline[/name_f].
I think the vintage flower name of [name_f]Violet[/name_f] sounds the best with [name_f]Adeline[/name_f]. I’m very sensitive to sounds so although I like some of the other names individually, I’m not liking those ones which contain a pronounced “el” (eg. [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], [name_f]Stella[/name_f], [name_f]Mabel[/name_f], [name_f]Luella[/name_f]). I find them a bit too matchy with [name_f]Adeline[/name_f].
I like [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] with [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]. I also like [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] a lot, aside from the shared ‘el’ I think she’d be perfect.
It seems from the comments & poll results that [name_f]Violet[/name_f] & [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] are the most popular. [name_f]My[/name_f] only hesitations with these names…
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] - this name is pretty popular in my area & I was hoping to find another ‘hidden gem’ like [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] (although in saying that, [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is certainly nowhere near as popular as [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] or [name_f]Ava[/name_f]). Also, DH doesn’t like this name. He would need a lot of convincing. On the upside, I love [name_f]Violet[/name_f]'s nickname options of V, [name_f]Vi[/name_f] & [name_f]Lettie[/name_f]. Super cute!
[name_f]Mabel[/name_f] - another name that DH doesn’t love I’m also not into the nickname of [name_f]May[/name_f]. People in Australia seem to always give each other nicknames, so I need to consider whether they sit well with me. Our surname starts with M & has two syllables, so I also wonder whether [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] would create a bit of a tongue twister. The appeal with [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] is her soft, vintage sound & I think she would work really well with [name_f]Adeline[/name_f].
Question- what are people’s thoughts on [name_f]Isla[/name_f] as a first name? This is DH’s favourite. I think it has that feminine, vintage feel that I’m looking for. However, the stats tell me that [name_f]Isla[/name_f] is super popular where we live…right up there with the Chloes & Avas. I also have no idea about what her nickname would be. [name_f]Isle[/name_f]? [name_f]Lala[/name_f]?
I like [name_f]Isla[/name_f] a lot, just doesn’t have the same vintage feel as [name_f]Adeline[/name_f]. What about [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]? [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_f]Leona[/name_f], [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_f]Amalia[/name_f]… or [name_f]Etta[/name_f]–too nicknamey?
I’m not sure how popular these are in Australia (I’m wagering on the more popular side, probably) but to me they sound the nicest with [name_f]Adeline[/name_f]. The rest I’m not crazy about!
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] & [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] are in the top 30. [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] & [name_f]Violet[/name_f] are further down the list but still in the top 100. I know this doesn’t matter to most people, but because I’m a teacher, I see multiple names in my grade all the time. I had three Chloes last year!!
I really love [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] as well. But, is it vintage sounding enough? I really like how unusual [name_f]Jemima[/name_f] is, yet still familiar enough that people will be able to spell it. [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] NN [name_f]Immy[/name_f] is great as well. I know someone with a daughter named [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], but we rarely see them anymore (they are friends of friends.)
These five are my favourites with [name_f]Adeline[/name_f]:
[name_f]Leonie[/name_f]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Amalia[/name_f]
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]
I love [name_f]Audrey[/name_f], but not overly keen on her nickname, [name_f]Aude[/name_f]. I also don’t know if I want two daughters with ‘A’ names —> reminds me of the Kardashians and their penchant for the letter ‘K’, ha ha!
I also worry about the pronunciation difficulties that [name_f]Isla[/name_f] may bring. The other thing that puts me off this name is it’s high popularity in our state. She was number 17 last year
I voted for [name_f]Amalia[/name_f]–so beautiful!–but also love [name_f]Mabel[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], and [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] with [name_f]Adeline[/name_f]!
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] is so gorgeous, I love this name so much. Plus, it’s not overly common in my area (it was number 66 in my state last year). I’m definitely going to have to work on my DH to convince him how lovely [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is!
Hubby loves [name_f]Amalia[/name_f]. I really like it, but not sure if I love the whole “different spin on a common name” thing. I know SO many Amelias.
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] is so spunky. Very cool. However, she was hugely popular last year. I was really hoping to find an uncommon name if it’s at all possible.
