Help us with our choices for #2!

With our first child, we took a list to the hospital of names we liked, and chose one there, so we could see her and decide which fit. We’d like to do the same this time, and we’ve got a few picked out, but we need help!

[name]Edith[/name] [name]Sidney[/name]: This is our front-runner right now. We like short first names for girls (our first is [name]Sara[/name]), the nickname [name]Edie[/name], and [name]Sidney[/name] is my husband’s great-grandmother’s name. His grandmother said her only regret was that she named her own daughter [name]Sally[/name] instead of naming her after her mother, so we thought that would be a nice way to honor her since her name, [name]Barbara[/name], doesn’t really translate to a little girl.

[name]Abigail[/name] or [name]Ailsa[/name] [name]Irene[/name]: Still up in the air on the first name for this combo. DH likes the Scottish spelling, [name]Ailsa[/name], better than [name]Elsa[/name].

[name]Gwen[/name] ___: [name]Don[/name]'t know about this one. DH suggested it, I like it, our relatives for the most part don’t. We don’t want to cross it off, but we can’t think of middle names for it either!

[name]Lila[/name] ___: We chose this because of the nice flower imagery, and we thought a name with the L or C sounds would be nice with our last name. Other options were [name]Julia[/name] (old-ladyish?), [name]Helena[/name] (discarded as too similar to my sister’s name [name]Alaina[/name]), [name]Claudia[/name] (DH knew an unpleasant girl named that), and [name]Cecilia[/name] (lacks nicknames we like).

What do you think of these? Thanks for your help!

EDIT: My husband just suggested one more. If anybody gets a chance to consider – how about Nadia? I like it, and I would probably replace Lila with it in our short list.

I love [name]Lila[/name] [name]Sidney[/name]. The other options are NMS. If you like [name]Edie[/name] though what about just [name]Edie[/name] or [name]Edina[/name]?

I have to say that [name]Edith[/name] [name]Sidney[/name] is really wonderful! So much meaning and I adore [name]Edith[/name], it’s on my own short list! So quirky and sweet.

While [name]Abigail[/name] is super cute, it’s really, really popular and [name]Ailsa[/name] just feels more unique and shines a bit more. I think [name]Irene[/name] is lovely and underused.

I love [name]Gwen[/name]! I think it’s chic, feminine and sounds modern and crisp. I think [name]Gwen[/name] [name]Sidney[/name] would work here.

I like [name]Lila[/name] a lot, but I like others on your list more. [name]Lila[/name] [name]Sidney[/name] also works really, really well.

I like [name]Edith[/name] [name]Sidney[/name]! [name]Edie[/name] is a great nickname too.

I love the meaning behind [name]Edith[/name] [name]Sidney[/name]. However, I don’t like the way [name]Edie[/name] [name]Sidney[/name] sounds. Not a big problem, but I thought I’d mention it, as you’re not sold on this name yet. I [name]DO[/name] love nn [name]Edie[/name], as well as the name [name]Sidney[/name] though.

Maybe [name]Sidney[/name] [name]Lila[/name]? [name]Sidney[/name] [name]Abigail[/name]? [name]Sidney[/name] [name]Irene[/name]? [name]Julia[/name] [name]Irene[/name]? [name]Sidney[/name] [name]Gwen[/name]?

Maybe you’d also like: [name]Juliet[/name], [name]Meredith[/name], [name]Gwenyth[/name], [name]Lillian[/name], [name]Calla[/name], [name]Nola[/name]…

BTW: I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Julia[/name] and [name]Cecelia[/name] (too bad you don’t like any of the nicknames…[name]Cece[/name], [name]Celia[/name], [name]Celie[/name], [name]Lia[/name]…).

Good luck deciding! You’ve got great taste, I really like all the girls’ names you mentioned.

I do like [name]Edith[/name], but don’t know if I like it paired with [name]Sidney[/name]. I also really like [name]Julia[/name], and don’t think it’s too old-ladyish at all

I think [name]Edith[/name] is beautiful, but I do think [name]Sara[/name] and [name]Abigail[/name] are lovely together. [name]Abigail[/name] [name]Edith[/name] maybe?

[name]Abigail[/name] [name]Sidney[/name] is cute and [name]Abigail[/name] [name]Irene[/name] is a nice combination! I like [name]Edith[/name]. It has a vintage and unconventional beauty! However, next to [name]Sara[/name], which is also pretty, but in a conventional way, I don’t know if I like it. I might worry that [name]Edith[/name] (even if she goes by the ADORABLE nickname [name]Edie[/name]) would feel in her teen years and/or beyond she was given the short end of the stick. That’s just one possibility though, and if you really love it I would go ahead and use it because if you do use the name you truly love, you won’t be able to imagine your daughter as anyone but [name]Edith[/name] “[name]Edie[/name]”!

[name]Edith[/name] [name]Sidney[/name] is wonderful! I was going to suggest the [name]Sydney[/name] spelling, but given that is after somebody there is no need.

[name]Lila[/name] feels ‘lacking’ to me, and I like your suggestions of [name]Helena[/name] (and ifyou prn it [name]Helen[/name]-a, its not too close to [name]Alaina[/name]), [name]Claudia[/name] and [name]Cecelia[/name].

[name]Abigail[/name] [name]Edith[/name] as suggested by PP is a really good suggestion.

[name]Celeste[/name]
[name]Lillian[/name]
[name]Claudie[/name]
[name]Lilith[/name]
[name]Elsie[/name]/[name]Elise[/name]
[name]Nora[/name]
[name]Etta[/name]
[name]Celia[/name]

Another vote for [name]Edith[/name] [name]Sidney[/name].
