Help wanted in screening names

[name_m]Runar[/name_m] is such a cool name :hushed:

Okay but this is hilarious because I’m now going to associate Camilla the queen with Camilla the chicken forever :see_no_evil:

I don’t know that there being a current royal figure with the name makes it unusable tbh - she’s been a fairly household name in the UK for a long while (think 80s) so if she hasn’t crossed your radar yet maybe it’s not that much of an issue. And other ‘royal’ names are still seen as normal, like Catherine, William, Beatrice

Guess I’m just worried she will become as famous as her predecessor, [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is still pretty much unusable.

I had an [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] in my class for years, yet I still always think “queen of England” first when I hear the name

If you like [name_m]Runar[/name_m] keep it on your list! I love the Norwegian names!

[name_f]Celine[/name_f]- [name_f]CĂ©line[/name_f] [name_m]Dion[/name_m] might still be a stong association, so maybe don’t the accent mark at least if you use it
lovely though!
[name_f]Clementine[/name_f]- I can’t picture this as anything other than the orange variant, sorry!
[name_f]Lilith[/name_f]- VERY bad biblical association for me
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f]- This is very hard to see on anything other than a flower or fictional character.
Terne- Is this pronounced like the word “turn?”
[name_f]Undine[/name_f]- Sooo pretty, can I just say! [name_f]My[/name_f] cousin has this name but spells it [name_f]Ondine[/name_f].
[name_u]Jade[/name_u]- [name_u]Jade[/name_u] for a boy would be soo difficult. He would always be mistaken for a girl.
Finally [name_m]Pyrus[/name_m]- @EliseElise I might be wrong, but I don’t think @Greyblue was correct in saying it was a car. She might have meant a Toyota Prius? I could be wrong though.
Great names!

As a [name_f]British[/name_f] person, [name_f]Camilla[/name_f] being the name of the queen consort is not a big deal! It’s a very classic name, I would get the impression of this being the name of quite an upper-class person more than associating it with one iconic individual.

I can’t see a problem with any of the other names, but you might want to be aware that [name_f]Viola[/name_f] means “Violate” in Spanish (as in r*pe) so that has put me off the name personally, even though it would very unlikely be an issue except in very specific circumstances such as learning Spanish or travelling to a Spanish speaking country.

Yeah, the car is Prius, you’re  Pryus still reminds me of it though -not a huge deal, esp with the different spelling/pn, but it was the first thing i thought

Whoah Viola is off the list, thank you! Wow I am bad at finding names, hope there is no more awful ones in there.

Just so we are clear, I am fully aware of the siren myths and demons and stuff some of the girl names are based off of. If I have a biological daughter someday she will probably not be petite or cutesy, as both me and my partner are very tall and build muscle easily. A name with some powerful origins might help her feel more like a Valkyrie and less like a beansprout.

But we might decide on adoption when that time comes, so I am keeping alternate kinds of names ready, too.

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there! [name_m]Just[/name_m] want to let you who reads this know I am still here, listening. I probably will not be having a biological child, and adoption will have to wait until there is no threat of war where I live, but screening names is still important just in case!

Your list is lovely!

Some associations I had with names that cause for some reconsiderations:
[name_f][/name_f]– [name_m]Cato[/name_m] and [name_f]Clove[/name_f] are the District 2 tributes in the Hunger [name_m]Games[/name_m] (just in case you have twins, you might not want to go with that exact pairing)
[name_f][/name_f]– I think a lot of people younger might associate [name_f]Celine[/name_f] with Kpop [name_m]Demon[/name_m] Hunters. I personally love the name, but it is something to look out for.
[name_f][/name_f]– [name_m]Pyrus[/name_m] reminds me of Pyrex, the glassware company
[name_f][/name_f]– Kids can be weird, and might call [name_f]Undine[/name_f] “Undies”

I don’t think it is worth worrying about these things too much. I’m a [name_m]Christian[/name_m] and would never think of [name_f]Lilith[/name_f] in religious terms. She’s only mentioned in the bible once and is more a mythological figure.
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Camilla[/name_f] is indeed a [name_f]Queen[/name_f] here in the UK. [name_f]She[/name_f] is not referred to as the [name_f]Queen[/name_f] Consort. [name_m]The[/name_m] late [name_f]Queen[/name_f] gave her that title, but [name_m]Charles[/name_m] is [name_m]King[/name_m] now and has dropped that. There is nothing wrong with the name. It’s pretty, and plenty of girls were called [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], and other royal names.
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]You[/name_m] choose the name you love. That name then becomes your child’s name, and they will make it their own.

If you go with [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] be prepared for corrections with people mistaking it for [name_f]Chloe[/name_f].
