You guys were so helpful in my last post regarding DH and I trying to narrow down our girl’s names. We don’t know the sex yet, but will be finding out soon. We don’t seem to have a problem agreeing on boy’s names, but struggle more with girls. I think mostly because I love too many and DH isn’t crazy about my middle name ideas.
Would love to get your general opinion on these names that we’ve narrowed down so far…
I love, [name_u]LOVE[/name_u], love [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]. At this point, it’s hard for me to imagine much else in the middle… but DH just doesn’t like it. He might warm up to it He does like the sound of [name_f]Calliope[/name_f], but doesn’t like the looks. I swear he never used to be this picky lol.
For reference, our last name is Cranmer.
Also, can anyone guess which first names are his picks and which are mine? lol
[name_m]Hi[/name_m], I don’t like the repeating “oh” sounds in any of the names with [name_f]Calliope[/name_f]. I think that [name_f]Nora[/name_f] and [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] would not only sound better with [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], but that both names would become truly beautiful!
Honestly, I’d forget about [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] unless you wanted to pair it with [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] because that looks pretty.
Since you like [name_f]Nora[/name_f] so much that you’re considering using it as a nickname for [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], I’d recommend it the most. Not only that, but it ends in “A” which seems to be your preference! Only [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] from your list end differently.
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] with the nickname “[name_f]Elle[/name_f]” is overdone now. That said, you have a lot of “elle” names: [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Arabella[/name_f], and [name_f]Stella[/name_f]. Since [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] is a mouthful with [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], I’m going to highly recommend [name_f]Stella[/name_f].
Considering you have all those “elle” names, plus [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] and [name_f]Isla[/name_f]… are you consciously trying to avoid [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]? It’s interesting that you’re so close to it, but it isn’t on your list. Are you sure [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] isn’t the name you really want? If not, [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] would be a great compromise because it points toward [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]/[name_f]Nora[/name_f].
I don’t think the name [name_f]Isla[/name_f] is going to age well. I think it will end up sounding as dated as [name_f]Kayla[/name_f] and [name_u]Kelly[/name_u] do now.
Highly Recommend:
[name_f]Nora[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Stella[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Isadora[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
Also like:
4. [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] or [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] [name_f]Calliope[/name_f]
5. [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
I like all of your first name picks except [name_f]Arabella[/name_f], which seems a little frilly for an adult (maybe better as a middle name?). [name_f]Isla[/name_f], [name_f]Gemma[/name_f], and [name_f]Stella[/name_f] feel the most trendy to me and might sound dated in 20 years, but hard to tell. I still think they are pretty. With [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] I like [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] and [name_f]Isla[/name_f] the best. Would [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] or [name_f]Beatriz[/name_f] be a compromise?
This is really amazing feedback. I appreciate you taking the time to really think about the names and our style! I never even noticed how so many of these names end in “a.” [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] and [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] are actually my DH’s picks. I’m not fond of [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] at all. Seems a bit too common for my taste. I talked with DH since this post and we kind of nixed [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] and [name_f]Gemma[/name_f]. [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] Cranmer just looks like too many m and n’s to me. DH also nixed [name_f]Stella[/name_f] (sad face), but I’m okay with letting this one go.
It looks like we might be down to [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Isla[/name_f], and [name_f]Isadora[/name_f]. We may as well nix [name_f]Isla[/name_f] though because neither of us are super in love with it and I could see it becoming a “[name_f]Kayla[/name_f],” like you said.
I didn’t pick [name_f]Isadora[/name_f], but it’s growing on me. I’m just concerned about nicknames because I’m not a fan of [name_u]Izzy[/name_u] or [name_f]Dora[/name_f]. I thiiiink if we went with [name_f]Nora[/name_f], we would probably just name her [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] nn [name_f]Nora[/name_f]. I love the association for [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] and don’t think many people around where I live would find it very common.
All good points. I don’t hate trendy, but I don’t want my child to be the next “[name_f]Jessica[/name_f].” Totally open to [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]. Not sure about [name_f]Beatriz[/name_f]. I do like [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]. DH isn’t crazy about it though.
My favorites of the new shortened list are [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] and [name_f]Isadora[/name_f]. I always thought [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] was a pretty cute nickname for [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] if you don’t like [name_u]Izzy[/name_u] and [name_f]Dora[/name_f].
If he likes the sound but doesn’t like the look of [name_f]Calliope[/name_f], would he happen to like the Kalliopi spelling any better? Some other names that remind me of [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] are [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f], [name_f]Callista[/name_f]/[name_f]Kallista[/name_f], [name_f]Cassandra[/name_f], [name_f]Octavia[/name_f], and [name_f]Tatiana[/name_f]. And some other names that give off a similar vibe to [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] are [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f], [name_f]Helena[/name_f], [name_f]Louisa[/name_f], [name_f]Alexa[/name_f], and [name_f]Ursula[/name_f].
Or there’s always Calytrix, which combines [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] and [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]! (I’m mostly joking…but apparently it is a real name according to Nameberry.)
