Hubby and I have narrowed down our list of names and can’t decide what we like best. Here’s what we have so far. Any favorites? Least favorites? Last name is “Travaille”. Any other ideas are appreciated too.
Definitely want something more unique and it must sound good in German as well
[name_u]Welcome[/name_u] to NB!!! Congrats on baby girl!
Of yours, I would probably choose [name_f]Hanna[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] or [name_f]Maia[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f].
[name_m]Just[/name_m] an FYI, many of your first name picks are trending more popular, at least in the US (unsure of Germany). [name_f]Eva[/name_f] was #108 last year, [name_f]Juliana[/name_f] was #220, [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] was #33, [name_f]Cora[/name_f] was #75 and [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] was #176.
A few unique ones with a [name_m]German[/name_m] feel and/or origin:
[name_f]Hannelore[/name_f] [name_f]Juliette[/name_f] (this way you still get [name_f]Hanna[/name_f] but it’s definitely more unique!)
[name_f]Johanna[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f]
[name_f]Giselle[/name_f] / [name_f]Gisela[/name_f] [name_u]Louise[/name_u]
[name_f]Heidi[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] [name_f]Maren[/name_f]
[name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] [name_f]Wilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Marta[/name_f] [name_f]Adeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Lorelai[/name_f] [name_u]Rose[/name_u]
[name_f]Gretchen[/name_f] [name_f]Rosaline[/name_f]
I like [name_f]Juliana[/name_f], [name_f]Maia[/name_f], and [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] best. I think my top five combos in order would be:
[name_f]Juliana[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f]
[name_f]Juliana[/name_f] [name_f]Maren[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Wilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Maia[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f]
[name_f]Maia[/name_f] [name_f]Coralie[/name_f]
You have so many lovely combinations. I really like:
Hanna Coralie / Louise & Cora Jane & Eva Rose / Rosaline
(Think Hanna(h) most popular German girls’ name?)
Least favourite is Ellie and all combinations - I just find it a perennially young name and - and this reflects poorly on me, - it makes me think of a laziness (might be smelly/belly etc).
But with your last name, I’m slightly stumbling on the getting to the T and the full (Frenchie) name from Hanna and Cora - they’re running into each other. I also think Maia Travaille is quite tricky to say, depending on which Maia you’re going for (am assuming Maya). I think it’s the two syllable A ending names but Eva somehow easier for me. I like Juliet but not keen on the T ending going into T start of last name. Juliana flows so nicely, I just don’t warm to the name - but it might sound a lot nicer in your accent and likely does!
If I could mix, match & adapt, these are names I think flow with Travaille, work in German context as far as I can tell, and are elegant and beautiful to me (besides Eva Rose / Rosaline).
Eve Maren
Rosamund Eve
Chloe Maren
Marceline Rose
Claudia Jane
Leonora Louise
Eloise Wilda “Ellie”/“Ella”/“Lise” etc
Josephine Maia
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Wilda[/name_f] → magical and light, but with solidity and sharpness too - love [name_f]Wilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] → sleek, strong and lovely
[name_f]Hanna[/name_f] [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] → unexpected combo, with a smart and international vibe. [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] is lovely
[name_f]Eva[/name_f] [name_f]Rosaline[/name_f] → stylish, sparky and lovely with an international feeling too
[name_f]My[/name_f] least favourites:
[name_f]Hanna[/name_f] [name_u]Louise[/name_u] → it sounds very expected, not fitting your want for something more unique
[name_f]Juliana[/name_f] → I find it a bit fussy and prefer [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
If I could tweak the combos slightly, I’d consider:
[name_f]Coralie[/name_f] [name_f]Hanna[/name_f], [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] [name_f]Maren[/name_f], [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] → just love [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] - unique but could give you [name_f]Cora[/name_f] too as a nn
I love [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Wilda[/name_f] and [name_f]Hanna[/name_f] [name_f]Coralie[/name_f]! I agree with previous posters that [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] is more unique than [name_f]Eva[/name_f], [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], and [name_f]Hanna[/name_f] if that is important to you. [name_f]Hanna[/name_f] is a unique spelling, but [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] is still very common in US and especially in [name_u]Germany[/name_u]- although I think it’s beautiful and timeless nonetheless.
[name_f]Juliana[/name_f] is not my favorite- I prefer [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], [name_f]Julia[/name_f] or even [name_u]Julie[/name_u].
[name_f]Hanna[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] (although [name_f]Hanna[/name_f] [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] is super sweet!)
[name_f]Eva[/name_f] Juliana/Juliet
[name_f]Juliana[/name_f] [name_f]Maren[/name_f] (always loved this combination!)
[name_f]Ellie[/name_f] [name_f]Maren[/name_f]
[name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Adeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Maia[/name_f] [name_f]Coralie[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Wilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Eva[/name_f] is by far my favorite of your first names; I’m such a massive [name_f]Eva[/name_f] fan! I think [name_f]Eva[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] and [name_f]Eva[/name_f] [name_f]Juliana[/name_f] are both equally delightful. I like the flow of [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] better, but I like [name_f]Eva[/name_f] [name_f]Juliana[/name_f] better visually. If not [name_f]Eva[/name_f], I also love [name_f]Hanna[/name_f] and Juliana; both are so sweet and [name_f]Juliana[/name_f] feels so unexpected these days with how popular [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] is becoming and how classic [name_f]Julia[/name_f] is. I do prefer [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] to [name_f]Hanna[/name_f] but I do think [name_f]Hanna[/name_f] would work better in [name_m]German[/name_m]. [name_f]Cora[/name_f] is also very beautiful, and I love [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Adeline[/name_f]! But I know a ton of Coras, I find [name_f]Eva[/name_f], [name_f]Hanna[/name_f], and [name_f]Juliana[/name_f] more refreshing myself.
Thank you so much! This helps out
Also for reference the last name is pronounced very American. So with a consonant L at the end if that changes anything.
[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Wilda[/name_f] I think it’s so whimsical. Not sure if DH is on board with [name_f]Wilda[/name_f] yet though.
That pronunciation definitely changes my pick! I think [name_f]Hanna[/name_f] Travaille looks prettiest written out, but [name_f]Cora[/name_f] Travaille sounds prettiest.
[name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] Travaille or [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] Travaille? I like that [name_f]Jane[/name_f] doesn’t have a second syllable to stress - [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_u]Louise[/name_u] Travaille or other middles with the stress on the second syllable just has kind of a strange rhythm to it IMO.
[name_f]Ellie[/name_f] [name_f]Maren[/name_f], [name_f]Eva[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], and [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f] are my favorite combos!
