Help: Which are your favorites?

Here are a “few” names my husband and I are looking at for our boy/girl due very soon:

[name]Adeline[/name] - (add-ah-leen), nn would be either [name]Addie[/name] or [name]Lena[/name]
[name]Beatrice[/name] - family name with cute nn [name]Bea[/name]
[name]Ramona[/name] - has a cute, unique feel to me
[name]Charlotte[/name] - I’m not so much in love with this name, but I like the nn [name]Charley[/name]
[name]Cordelia[/name] - nn [name]Delia[/name], like that it means “daughter of the sea” but I’m not so sure about it
[name]Eleanora[/name] - love this! This is a family name, has a few good nn, [name]Ellie[/name], [name]Nora[/name], and [name]Lena[/name]
[name]Emmeline[/name] - (emma-leen) I think this is really pretty, but I don’t want nn to be [name]Emma[/name]
[name]Estella[/name] - not sure about this one
[name]Frances[/name] - I really just like the nn [name]Frankie[/name]
[name]Georgia[/name] - I think this is a great “old-fashioned” name that’s very usable
[name]Hazel[/name] - I change my mind every day about this one, today I like it
[name]Hattie[/name] - I think it’s really a cute new nickname-ish name that’s not too common
[name]Iris[/name] - another name that I change my mind on every day
[name]Helena[/name] - a family name, nn would be [name]Lena[/name] or [name]Nell[/name], I really think this is a gorgeous name
[name]Josephine[/name] - also a family name, nn [name]Josie[/name], another one I think is very pretty
[name]Eloise[/name] - one my mother brought up, nn [name]Lulu[/name], another cute, unique name
[name]Scarlett[/name] - nn [name]Lettie[/name]
[name]Olive[/name] - worried that this name is too out of the box, I like it better as a middle name
[name]Rubie[/name] - antoher one of my favorites, I think it’s gorgeous
[name]Vivienne[/name] - I love this name, but I’m worried it’s too copycat of [name]Brad[/name] and [name]Angelina[/name]

For boys, I’ve narrowed it down to a few:

[name]Alfred[/name] - love the nn [name]Alfie[/name] or [name]Fred[/name], do you think it will still work on a school aged child?
[name]Frank[/name] - really cute nn [name]Frankie[/name], I like this one a lot
[name]Joe[/name] - simple, yet somehow very cute to me… is it too plain
[name]George[/name] - cute nn [name]Georgie[/name], but would mean that girls name [name]Georgia[/name] would be out :frowning:
[name]Charlie[/name] - I like this, but I’m afraid it’s getting too popular
[name]Henry[/name] - a family name, I think its really cute, but again, I’m afraid its getting too popular
[name]Dexter[/name] - cute nn [name]Dex[/name], I really like this one

Sorry about all the wordiness - I really need to narrow these down, any help would be great!

I love all of them! You and I have the same taste!

[name]Adeline[/name] - might have problems with pronunciation, I’ve only ever heard [name]Ada[/name]-line. Other than that it’s adorable.
[name]Beatrice[/name] - love it
[name]Ramona[/name] - don’t know why, but I don’t like it
[name]Charlotte[/name] - I love [name]Charlotte[/name], but not [name]Charley[/name]. Plus, this seems too popular considering your other choices
[name]Cordelia[/name] - love!
[name]Eleanora[/name] - love this! nn [name]Nora[/name] is what I would use, so great!
[name]Emmeline[/name] - Again, seems too popular for you, too much like [name]Emily[/name]
[name]Estella[/name] - not my favorite
[name]Frances[/name] - Too plain for me, but I love the nn [name]Frankie[/name], too, you could get it from [name]Francesca[/name]
[name]Georgia[/name] - very sweet
[name]Hazel[/name] - [name]LOVE[/name]! So underused and funky but sweet! This is on my short list!
[name]Hattie[/name] - I’d only use it as a nn for [name]Henrietta[/name] or [name]Harriet[/name]
[name]Iris[/name] - not my favorite, it’s nice, but a little trendy.
[name]Helena[/name] - very nice
[name]Josephine[/name] - beautiful
[name]Eloise[/name] - never thought of the nn [name]Lulu[/name] for this, how cute!
[name]Sadie[/name]- really cute, but nicknamey
[name]Scarlett[/name] - I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Scarlett[/name], but not nn [name]Lettie[/name]
[name]Olive[/name] - I love this, definitely not out of the box considering the popularity of [name]Olivia[/name]. But it would be great in the middle.
[name]Rubie[/name] - I’d only spell it [name]Ruby[/name], not one of my favorites
[name]Vivienne[/name] - [name]Brad[/name] and [name]Angelina[/name] don’t own this name! It’s not obscure enough for you to be copying them. I don’t really like it though, I don’t know why.

For boys, I’ve narrowed it down to a few:

[name]Alfred[/name] - I almost named my baby this (as of a few days ago this was going to be his name). Everyone seemed to want to call him [name]Al[/name], which I hate. So we gave it up. If you don’t mind [name]Al[/name], I think it’s a great name. But be prepared for people to say “you’re naming him what?”
[name]Frank[/name] - so cute!
[name]Joe[/name]- well it is plain, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing for a boy. Its classic.
[name]George[/name] - I love this one! So classic and cool! If my husband didn’t hate it, it’d be really high on my list
[name]Charlie[/name] - definitely popular, but still great. Would you use [name]Charles[/name]?
[name]Henry[/name] - love it!
[name]Dexter[/name] - so cool. I picture the coolest, quirky kid, I just love it!

[name]Adeline[/name] -I pronounce this (add-uh-line). [name]Don[/name]'t like it that much. It’s okay.
[name]Beatrice[/name] -I think this is going to get popular, but it is lovely.
[name]Ramona[/name] - I really like this name.
[name]Charlotte[/name] - [name]Charlotte[/name] is so pretty!
[name]Cordelia[/name] - I love it so much. [name]Love[/name] the meaning. It was my grandmother’s middle name.
[name]Eleanora[/name] - [name]Love[/name] this, love the nn’s. But [name]Ellie[/name] is getting really popular. Go with [name]Nora[/name]. Is [name]Lena[/name] short for [name]Eleanora[/name]?
[name]Emmeline[/name] - [name]Do[/name] not like. Seems like a clone of [name]Emily[/name] which I like better.
[name]Estella[/name] - [name]Love[/name] [name]Estella[/name] nn [name]Stella[/name].
[name]Frances[/name] - In love with [name]Frances[/name] nn [name]Francie[/name]. [name]Frankie[/name]'s nice, too.
[name]Georgia[/name] - Very lovely. nn [name]Georgie[/name].
[name]Hazel[/name] - [name]Do[/name] not like at all. Sorry!
[name]Hattie[/name] - [name]Don[/name]'t like, but some of us posters like [name]Harriet[/name], [name]Henrietta[/name] nn [name]Hattie[/name].
[name]Iris[/name] - [name]Love[/name] this, careful, it is on the hipster hot list.
[name]Helena[/name] - I am neutral on this, but I love [name]Lena[/name].
[name]Josephine[/name] - Gorgeous! nn [name]Josie[/name].
[name]Eloise[/name] - [name]Love[/name] it! [name]Love[/name] [name]Lulu[/name].
[name]Sadie[/name]-[name]Do[/name] not like. A very common pet name.
[name]Scarlett[/name] - nn [name]Lettie[/name]. Cute.
[name]Olive[/name] - I think this is eventually going to get popular. I don’t know about you, but I personally wouldn’t want to be named after an olive. Seems too incidental.
[name]Rubie[/name] - I think it’s gorgeous. I love it spelled [name]Ruby[/name].
[name]Vivienne[/name] - I love this name, too, nn [name]Vivi[/name]. [name]Don[/name]'t worry about Brangelina. You can always spell it [name]Vivian[/name], too.
My faves are [name]Beatrice[/name], [name]Vivienne[/name], [name]Eloise[/name], [name]Josephine[/name], [name]Frances[/name], [name]Estella[/name], [name]Georgia[/name], and [name]Eleanora[/name]. [name]Favorite[/name] of these are [name]Vivienne[/name] nn [name]Vivi[/name] and [name]Estella[/name] nn [name]Stella[/name]. Very favorite is [name]Vivienne[/name].

For boys, I’ve narrowed it down to a few:

[name]Alfred[/name] - I like [name]Alfie[/name] better than [name]Fred[/name], but [name]Fred[/name]'s time is coming. [name]Do[/name] you live in a name cutting-edge area? [name]Alfie[/name] would fit in better there. If you live in the heartland or a suburban equivalent, it might be hard on little [name]Alfie[/name] when he’s playing sports. But if you love [name]Alfie[/name], pick that. We named our son [name]Peter[/name] 23 years ago and we lived in a suburban area that might as well have been in the heartland even though we were pretty near downtown L.A. Nobody else was named [name]Peter[/name], but he was fine. He played sports, too. One lady even told me she didn’t like his name. She was rude! I should have told her I didn’t care for her name. Or her ugly fingernails, fake, too long, and too bright.
[name]Frank[/name] - [name]Love[/name] [name]Frank[/name]. Because I love [name]Frank[/name] [name]Lloyd[/name] [name]Wright[/name] houses. That’s the main reason!
[name]Joe[/name] - [name]Love[/name] it as a nickname for [name]Joseph[/name].
[name]George[/name] - [name]Love[/name] [name]George[/name]. Gotta choose one or the other. Except one set of grandparents in "[name]Charlie[/name] and the Chocolate Factory were Grandpa [name]George[/name] and Grandma [name]Georgina[/name].
[name]Charlie[/name] - I like this, but I’m afraid it’s getting too popular. I love it as a nn for [name]Charles[/name]. If you really love a name in a super duper way, it doesn’t matter if it’s popular unless it’s in the top ten. Then I would try to avoid it.
[name]Henry[/name] - [name]Love[/name] it.
[name]Dexter[/name] - I really like this one. But it isn’t as classic as some of your other choices. Might sound dated by the time he’s in his 20’s or 30’s.
My fave is [name]Alfred[/name], because it’s vintage and not too common. I also love [name]Henry[/name] like crazy, but he is very popular. I can’t help it-I love, love [name]Dexter[/name]. I might choose him even though he might get trendy because he is soooo cute!

[name]Adeline[/name] - I would have pronounced it [name]Ada[/name]-line, not leen. I prefer the nicknames over the actual name
[name]Beatrice[/name] - Great name, not to mention its family ties for you
[name]Ramona[/name] - Very quirky and offbeat. I loved the [name]Ramona[/name] books as a child, and while it’s not my style, it would be nice to see on a little girl
[name]Charlotte[/name] - I adore [name]Charlotte[/name], but not the nickname [name]Charley[/name]
[name]Cordelia[/name] - I love [name]Cordelia[/name]. Classic, sweet, and elegant. [name]Delia[/name] is a great nickname, as is [name]Cora[/name] (one of my favorites!)
[name]Eleanora[/name] - A beautiful name with beautiful nicknames
[name]Emmeline[/name] - [name]Emmeline[/name] is one of my favorite names, but pronunciation issues may arise, as is the case with [name]Adeline[/name]. I, for example, have always pronounced it [name]Emma[/name]-line, not leen
[name]Estella[/name] - Not my style
[name]Frances[/name] - [name]Frankie[/name] is a darling nickname. Personally, I prefer [name]Francesca[/name] over [name]Frances[/name].
[name]Georgia[/name] - I love [name]Georgia[/name] (and [name]Georgiana[/name]). It’s classic, elegant, strong, and feminine
[name]Hazel[/name] - I’m still one who considers it an old lady name
[name]Hattie[/name] - I knew a [name]Hattie[/name] growing up, and she really loved her name. (Her full name was [name]Harriette[/name], which she despised.) It’s too nicknamey for me, but that’s just me!
[name]Iris[/name] - A beautiful name
[name]Helena[/name] - One of my favorites, too, but beware of pronunciation issues. I know a Hel-len-uh, a Hel-lee-nuh, and a Hel-lay-nuh, all spelled [name]Helena[/name]! I prefer the Hel-len-uh pronunciation, and this is how I pronounce it when I see it.
[name]Josephine[/name] - Another favorite of mine, plus for lucky you, it has family associations and meaning
[name]Eloise[/name] - [name]Eloise[/name] is such a great name, and I love [name]Lulu[/name]!
[name]Sadie[/name]- Too nicknamey for me
[name]Scarlett[/name] - I’m a fan of [name]Scarlett[/name], but not of [name]Lettie[/name]
[name]Olive[/name] - I’m not a fan of [name]Olive[/name] (my mind goes straight to [name]Olive[/name] Oyl)
[name]Rubie[/name] - I prefer [name]Ruby[/name], but not a fan of the name
[name]Vivienne[/name] - I love this name, too, and Brangelina doesn’t own it. I loved this name far before they bestowed it upon their baby, and I know I’m not alone!

[name]Alfred[/name] - This name is really growing on me
[name]Frank[/name] - When I hear [name]Frankie[/name], I now think of a little girl, and I guess [name]Frank[/name] just isn’t for me
[name]Joe[/name] - [name]Joe[/name] alone is too nicknamey for me, but [name]Joseph[/name] (nn [name]Joe[/name]) is great
[name]George[/name] - I like [name]George[/name]
[name]Charlie[/name] - [name]Charlie[/name] alone is a nickname, but [name]Charles[/name] is a timeless classic
[name]Henry[/name] - I love, love, love [name]Henry[/name]!
[name]Dexter[/name] - A great name

Of the boy’s names you’ve listed, [name]Henry[/name] and [name]Charles[/name] are my favorites. I love [name]Henry[/name] [name]Alfred[/name] and [name]Dexter[/name] [name]Charles[/name].

Others you may like:

My overall favorites are: [name]Eleanora[/name] [name]Josephine[/name], [name]Eleanora[/name] [name]Beatrice[/name], and [name]Eleanora[/name] [name]Scarlett[/name].

Best wishes to you!

You have such an interesting mix of vintagey names and quirky names!

[name]Adeline[/name] - (add-ah-leen) I think that this will be misprounced
[name]Beatrice[/name] - I really like this name, so pretty.
[name]Ramona[/name] - This is so great and quirky. I like [name]Ramon[/name] and [name]Dexter[/name] togeather.
[name]Charlotte[/name] - [name]Charlotte[/name] is very classic. But I noticed that you also have [name]Charlie[/name] for a boy, maybe you should just stick with [name]Charles[/name] nn [name]Charlie[/name] and save your girls pick for something you love more.
[name]Cordelia[/name] - I don’t care for this for some reason - though I think [name]Delia[/name] is cute
[name]Eleanora[/name] - lots of cute nn
[name]Emmeline[/name] - (emma-leen) She’ll probably be called [name]Emma[/name] or [name]Em[/name]. I love how vintage country it sounds.
[name]Estella[/name] - Sounds like a grumpy old lady to me, but how about just [name]Stella[/name]?
[name]Frances[/name] - Cute!!
[name]Georgia[/name] - You’re right this is flat out great.
[name]Hazel[/name] - This is another great vintage country name. I’m going to try to talk my husband into it, I think it is really sweet.
[name]Hattie[/name] - This is a pub here in my town, and I can’t get that image out of my head!!
[name]Iris[/name] - pretty
[name]Helena[/name] - also prettty, I like the nn [name]Nell[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] - SO pretty and classic, and [name]Josie[/name] is too cute.
[name]Eloise[/name] - this is really beautiful.
[name]Sadie[/name] - I like this and it is not heard too often.
[name]Scarlett[/name] - too O’[name]Hara[/name] to me.
[name]Olive[/name] - this would be a really cute mn! [name]Hazel[/name] [name]Olive[/name], [name]Beatrice[/name] [name]Olive[/name], [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Olive[/name]
[name]Rubie[/name] - not one of my faves
[name]Vivienne[/name] - I wouldn’t worry about the famous baby, that’ll kind of leave everybodies minds. And it is a beautiful name.

For boys, I’ve narrowed it down to a few:

[name]Alfred[/name] - This might work . . .
[name]Frank[/name] -
[name]Joe[/name] - Nope, I don’t think it is too plain at all, love it. Would the full name be [name]Joseph[/name]?
[name]George[/name] - I like [name]Georgia[/name] better though!
[name]Charlie[/name] - It might be getting more popular, but there still aren’t tons of them around, I think. Also, I love it and think that if you do too you should go for it! There is a reason a lot of your names are classics - because they are really great.
[name]Henry[/name] - ditto charlie
[name]Dexter[/name] - quirky and cool!

I went to school with an [name]Emmeline[/name] whose nn was [name]Emmy[/name]. Could also spell it [name]Emme[/name].
