My husband and I were completely shocked to find out that we are expecting twins – a boy and a girl. We have two daughters named [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_u]Noel[/name_u] and [name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f]. I could write a huge post just talking about the meaning in their names.
We have struggled to name these babies far more than our first two, but have started to make some progress. We often disagree, and so for us it’s largely about finding the best compromise names. Typically, classic names are we find some common ground.
I really want their names to sound cohesive, without being matchy-matchy. And I also would like their meaning to vibe with one another. The boy’s MN will be [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] after his dad, which I know is a hard middle in terms of flow. And the girl’s MN will likely, but not definitely (Ha!) be [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] after my sister.
Our two front-running sets are:
[name_f]Mavis[/name_f] and [name_m]Silas[/name_m]. Both in sound and in meaning (“songbird” and “wood, forest”) they vibe with each other. We like [name_f]Mavis[/name_f] a lot, but I didn’t like it at first and I’m worried it comes across too obscure/stuffy/dorky/dated like I thought it did when I first heard it before I sat with it a while.
[name_m]Charles[/name_m]/[name_u]Charlie[/name_u] and [name_f]Jane[/name_f]. My husband likes the idea of honoring our dads somehow. [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is the feminine form of [name_m]John[/name_m], my FIL’s name. And the only other girl name we have agreed on! We don’t want to use my dad’s first name, but [name_m]Charles[/name_m] is his middle name. I like [name_u]Charlie[/name_u], but not [name_m]Charles[/name_m] very much. Undecided on which we’d officially name him, but we would definitely call him [name_u]Charlie[/name_u]. I’m willing to overlook the fact their meanings aren’t similar in the interest of honoring our old men.
The only other names neither of us have vetoed are [name_m]Leo[/name_m], [name_m]Calvin[/name_m], and [name_m]Henry[/name_m].
Which set do you like? Does name set cohesion trump the sentimental family tie? Are there any potential sets you can think of based off of just one of the names we’ve agreed upon paired with one I haven’t mentioned?
I love [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] and [name_f]Jane[/name_f]! Especially with [name_f]Vera[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], very classic names but can also be made very modern!
They’re both good options!
[name_f]Mavis[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] and [name_m]Silas[/name_m] [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] with those middles puts [name_f]Mavis[/name_f] and [name_m]Silas[/name_m] in the lead for me
I prefer [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] with [name_f]Jane[/name_f]. [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] and [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] - I do love this set too.
Definitely [name_f]Mavis[/name_f] and [name_m]Silas[/name_m].
[name_u]Charlie[/name_u]/[name_m]Charles[/name_m] and [name_f]Jane[/name_f] are both very plain in my opinion, but [name_f]Mavis[/name_f] and [name_m]Silas[/name_m] are lovely together and sound great with older sisters’ names
[name_f]Mavis[/name_f] and [name_m]Silas[/name_m] are great, especially with sisters [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] & [name_f]Vera[/name_f]. They’re both unique but familiar enough and their similar meanings are very sweet as they’re twins.
[name_f]Mavis[/name_f] and [name_m]Silas[/name_m] are a breathtaking twin set, and goes beautifully with sisters [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] and [name_f]Vera[/name_f]!
[name_f]Mavis[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] and [name_m]Silas[/name_m] [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] are so lovely, but with [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] and [name_f]Vera[/name_f] I think I prefer [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] and [name_f]Jane[/name_f]!
[name_f]Mavis[/name_f] and [name_m]Silas[/name_m] are great choices!
Some others that came to mind…
[name_f]Cora[/name_f] & [name_u]Theo[/name_u]
[name_f]Nora[/name_f] & [name_u]Jude[/name_u]
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f] & [name_m]Ezra[/name_m]
[name_f]Willa[/name_f] & [name_m]Henry[/name_m]
I love [name_m]Silas[/name_m]! [name_f]Mavis[/name_f] is cute as well.
[name_m]Reading[/name_m] you first 2 girls, I thought of [name_u]Theo[/name_u] for a boy or [name_f]Thea[/name_f] for a girl (both sound great, but obviously not both). I really like the short and sweet, 4 letters 2 syllables you have with your first two.
I also really like [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_f]Vera[/name_f], …
[name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_f]Thea[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_f]Winnie[/name_f]
[name_f]Mila[/name_f]
[name_f]Luna[/name_f] (love this one but awfully similar to [name_f]Lucy[/name_f])
[name_f]Cora[/name_f]
[name_f]Margo[/name_f]
