My husband and I are expecting and while we have our boy name all set, we cannot come up with a girl name we both [name_f]LOVE[/name_f].
We don’t find out the sex until next [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f], but at the rate we are going, we won’t have one in 20 more weeks either!
Anyway, we had this issue last time, where the boy name was immediate and we picked a girl name we both agreed on but didn’t feel was THE NAME. Then I discovered “[name_f]Amalia[/name_f]” and we were both like omg that is THE NAME. I LOVED [name_f]Emily[/name_f] and [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] but neither of them felt right so I scrolled down the page and found this as a derivative…and it was IT.
And so, we have an [name_f]Amalia[/name_f]
I love it because it is a legitimate name, not hard to pronounce, is somewhat unique and yet not ridiculous. It is [name_f]IMO[/name_f] a pretty name, and she will not be “[name_f]Emily[/name_f] #4” which is pretty much what I went through with my name and hated it.
So, needless to say I would like the same feeling about another girls name.
I actually did have a name that I adored which was more popular (Charlotte), but my sister in law is using it for her upcoming so that’s out (plus I didn’t love it like [name_f]Amalia[/name_f]!)
DH would like another A name, but isn’t dead set on it. I just want something pretty, pronounceable, and not super popular and it would be nice if it went ok with [name_f]Amalia[/name_f].
If it helps, our last name is short and ends in an “ee” sound. So I’d also prefer no names with the “ee” sound at the end.
[name_f]Welcome[/name_f] to Nameberry!
My first thought for you was [name_f]Adela[/name_f] with the nickname [name_f]Ada[/name_f]. It begins with A, it’s pronounceable, and isn’t super popular. It fits with [name_f]Amalia[/name_f], but it isn’t super matchy.
A few other ideas:
[name_f]Augusta[/name_f]
[name_f]Antonia[/name_f]
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]
[name_f]Alberta[/name_f]
[name_f]Aria[/name_f]
[name_f]Edith[/name_f]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Willa[/name_f]
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f]
I really love [name_f]Amalia[/name_f].
I looked through nameberry’s Classic Names with a Twist for you, because that to me is what [name_f]Amalia[/name_f] is.
I’m not a fan of two siblings sharing the same initial unless it is done very well… but I may suggest a few A names.
Thanks! Sorry to hit and run earlier, toddler to attend to thanks for the welcome.
FWIW, my husband and I have agreed on “[name_f]Alaina[/name_f]” which we do both like. But we don’t [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] IT the way we love [name_f]Amalia[/name_f]. We feel the same way about [name_f]Alaina[/name_f] as we do our original name for [name_f]Amalia[/name_f] - it’s acceptable and we wouldn’t be disappointed, but we don’t get that awesome spark either.
This is my name list so far (before I posted this thread):
Still no spark yet, but [name_f]Amalia[/name_f] didn’t give me an immediate spark either. I added it to my list and after he said he liked it, it hit me.
