We are expecting a baby girl this fall! We are deciding between these two names:
Noa Iris
Eden Hannah
Which would you choose? We are Jewish so both first names would be lovely Jewish girls’ names for us. Our first daughter is called Abigail (nickname Abi) so we would love a name that goes with that. We also love Edie as a nickname though it might be a bit confusing with Abi. Eden would probably be pronounced (Eeden).
I think [name_u]Eden[/name_u] [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] would make a beautiful sister to [name_f]Abigail[/name_f]! [name_u]Noa[/name_u] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] is also lovely, but the two names run into each other to my ear, and [name_u]Eden[/name_u] [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] is really balanced and very pretty!
[name_u]Noa[/name_u] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] feels much more timely and contemporary, at the risk of seeming more trendy, but feels super on-point for a baby born right now.
[name_u]Eden[/name_u] [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] is more timeless and classic but at the expense of a smidgen of personality out the gate.
Thank you all so much. If it’s helpful we have a one syllable (four letter) last name so I guess [name_u]Eden[/name_u] [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] is a bit longer to go with that. We want a name that is soft and will honor our Jewish heritage but that also isn’t too religious or hard to pronounce for others. I am very torn between the two. I also like names that are conducive to nicknames but my husband prefers we don’t use [name_f]Edie[/name_f] as he thinks we’ll mix it up too much with [name_u]Abi[/name_u] so I don’t mind not having a nickname. [name_f]Do[/name_f] others have a sense of how common either first name is?
This may be regional but FWIW, I have met lots of Abigails/Abbys/various spellings and zero girls named [name_u]Noa[/name_u] in real life. I do really like [name_u]Noa[/name_u] but I think there’s a big gap between Abigail/Abi and [name_u]Noa[/name_u] in terms of people’s familiarity with them. For this reason [name_u]Eden[/name_u] (which I also really like!) feels like a better fit to me. I personally don’t imagine mixing up [name_u]Abi[/name_u] and [name_f]Edie[/name_f] very much - the stressed syllables sound really different, so if you called one across the playground I don’t think the wrong kid would respond.
I checked the numbers (you can also by clicking on each name and scrolling down- they are listed right after the graph)
From the numbers it looks like Eden is considered most common numbered as name 130 and Noa as 466. If I’m being honest though the last time I encountered an Eden was decades ago in school. Noa to me seems more common where I am in the States. However Inthink to note is Noa also has the Noah spelling option and while further down as a choice for girls- Noah was ranked as #2 for boys.
I prefer [name_u]Eden[/name_u] but I think [name_u]Noa[/name_u] pairs better with [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] (we have the same name and nickname!). If it was up to me though I think I’d mix and match and do [name_u]Eden[/name_u] [name_f]Iris[/name_f].
I like [name_u]Eden[/name_u] [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] more when paired with [name_f]Abigail[/name_f]. [name_u]Noa[/name_u] is nice, but seems a bit modern to the classic [name_f]Abigail[/name_f].
Another option would be to lengthen Noa… maybe, [name_f]Naomi[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] or [name_f]Norah[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] nickname [name_u]Noa[/name_u]? Those pair well with [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] imo.
[name_f]Edie[/name_f] and [name_u]Abi[/name_u] do seem a bit close… what about nn [name_f]Edda[/name_f] or [name_f]Edna[/name_f]?
I absolutely adore [name_u]Noa[/name_u] [name_f]Iris[/name_f]. I love both names so much and although I do find the vowels meeting between the names a tad difficult flow-wise, the beauty of the two names separately and together trumps that for me.
[name_u]Eden[/name_u] [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] is nice too and I love, love the name [name_f]Edie[/name_f] so using it as a nickname appeals to me. I actually think [name_u]Eden[/name_u] [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] probably goes with [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] more so but I’d still go for the one I loved more.
I love both!!!
I love the name eden but [name_u]Noa[/name_u] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] is a great combo!
I think [name_u]Abby[/name_u] and [name_u]Eden[/name_u] sound so cute together!
[name_u]Eden[/name_u] [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] is so lovely! I want to get into [name_u]Noa[/name_u], really I do, but I just can’t manage to love her. le sigh. I do love [name_f]Iris[/name_f], though, and [name_u]Noa[/name_u] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] sounds so lovely (plus, I think [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] and [name_u]Noa[/name_u] make a great pair!). I’m voting [name_u]Eden[/name_u] [name_f]Hannah[/name_f], though, because I can’t just vote against Eden… she’s so lovely and [name_f]Edie[/name_f] is so sweet.
