After a lot of searching, DH & I both came up with a long list of boys names for our baby due in [name]March[/name] (we are not finding out the gender, see girls list Nameberry - Welcome to the Nameberry Forums). We combined the names we liked from each others lists into one long list & have been coming up with some first & middle combos from that list. Would love some feedback on our combos and suggestions for others from the list.
Surname is something similar to [name]Wilson[/name] if that helps
We don’t really want any suggestions that are not on the list as we’ve been through naming sites with a fine tooth comb and these are the names that we both agree on.
[name]Just[/name] as good as your girl list! All very nice, my favourites are: [name]Auden[/name] [name]Ezra[/name], [name]Jude[/name] [name]Vincent[/name], [name]Darwin[/name] [name]Dominic[/name], [name]Rory[/name] [name]Dylan[/name] & [name]Dylan[/name] [name]Elliot[/name]. [name]Auden[/name] [name]Ezra[/name] is the coolest I think, but I’m a big fan of both W.H. [name]Auden[/name] & [name]Ezra[/name] Pound so that might be why!
[name]Reuben[/name] [name]Orlando[/name] & [name]Felix[/name] [name]Byron[/name] would be my suggestions.
aww you are so complimentary! Im finding boys names harder actually as a) more of the names seem to go well in combos & b) I’m less decided on which names I love
[name]Auden[/name] [name]Ezra[/name] is definitely one of my faves too
I like [name]Reuben[/name] [name]Orlando[/name] a lot, we had thought of [name]Rory[/name] [name]Orlando[/name] but [name]Reuben[/name] works much better
Have just discovered that [name]Auden[/name] is pronounced Aw-[name]Den[/name] (like law) not Ow-den (like how), can’t believe I didn’t realise this, totally changed my liking of the name now as I love the ow sound but not keen on the aw sound at all!
Wonderful names. You have a great style - classics with a contemporary twist!
For me the standouts on your list were:
[name]Jude[/name] [name]Vincent[/name] - [name]Both[/name] these names have a cool, artistic vibe. They fit well thematically and the 1-2 syllable combo creates a lovely flow. [name]Jude[/name] [name]Vincent[/name] sounds like a very cool kid to me!
[name]Ewan[/name] [name]James[/name] - A scottish classic! YOO-an [name]JAMES[/name] flows well and works with your last name. The issue i have is that I am not sure about [name]Ewan[/name] [name]Wilson[/name] without the [name]James[/name] to break up all the strong ‘W’ and ‘N’ sounds.
[name]Auden[/name] [name]Ezra[/name] - I particularly like the look of this one on the page and really like [name]Auden[/name] [name]Wilson[/name]. My concern here is about the emphasis - au[name]DEN[/name] [name]EZra[/name] - being all in the middle.
Have you considered [name]Ezra[/name] [name]James[/name]? or even [name]Vincent[/name] [name]James[/name]? [name]Felix[/name] [name]Dylan[/name]?
I like [name]Elijah[/name] [name]Patrick[/name], I like the melody of the syllables working together and the soft l and j of [name]Elijah[/name] with the harder t and k of [name]Patrick[/name], but then maybe I’ve been over thinking!!
Favorites are: [name]Auden[/name] [name]Ezra[/name], [name]Ezra[/name] [name]Ronan[/name], [name]Dylan[/name] [name]Elliott[/name], and [name]Rhys[/name] [name]Elden[/name]. I also love [name]Adam[/name]. It’s such a solid name and not overly used.
[name]Jude[/name] [name]Vincent[/name] -I like [name]Jude[/name] a lot, not sure about it with [name]Vincent[/name] but I do like it better than…
[name]Jude[/name] [name]Michael[/name] - [name]Jude[/name], again, I like. I really do not care for [name]Michael[/name], both on its own and with [name]Jude[/name].
[name]Elijah[/name] [name]Patrick[/name] - [name]Patrick[/name] is not a favorite, but I acually like it a lot with [name]Elijah[/name], which I’ve been name crushing for a while.
[name]Auden[/name] [name]Ezra[/name] - [name]Ezra[/name] is so cute, but I’m not a fan of [name]Auden[/name].
[name]Daniel[/name] [name]Glyn[/name] - [name]Daniel[/name] is a nice classic. [name]Glyn[/name] just seems like a kre8tif way to spell [name]Glenn[/name], which isn’t my style.
[name]Darwin[/name] [name]Dominic[/name] Okay, I’ve gotta say that at first I was like “[name]Darwin[/name]?!?!” But the more I look at it the more I think it is an awesome choice. I don;t, however, think I like it with [name]Dominic[/name]. I love [name]Dominic[/name] but the names just don’t flow well together for me.
[name]Fraser[/name] [name]James[/name] - [name]Fraser[/name] still reminds me of the TV show, that could be good or bad in your opinion. [name]James[/name] is a great name, but a bit of a filler middle name to me these days.
[name]Ewan[/name] [name]James[/name] - Not a huge fan of [name]Ewan[/name], and [name]James[/name] again. It is kind of a nice combo though.
[name]Rory[/name] [name]Dylan[/name] - I love [name]Rory[/name]… I like it more for a girl myself, but it is great on a boy as well. [name]Dylan[/name] is dated to me.
[name]Ezra[/name] [name]Ronan[/name] - This is my favorite combo so far. [name]Ezra[/name] is just so cool and [name]Ronan[/name] pairs it well.
[name]Dylan[/name] [name]Elliot[/name] - Again, [name]Dylan[/name] seems dated. [name]Elliot[/name] is okay.
[name]Rhys[/name] [name]Elden[/name] - I really really really like [name]Rhys[/name]. [name]Elden[/name] is alright.
other names from the list
[name]Adam[/name] - Another one that feels dated to me.
[name]Byron[/name] - Reminds me of [name]Lord[/name] [name]Byron[/name]. I like it.
[name]Declan[/name], [name]Dexter[/name] - [name]Love[/name] and love. They both have a really cool vibe.
[name]Espen[/name], [name]Ewan[/name] - [name]Espen[/name] sounds made up to me, and I’m not a fan of [name]Ewan[/name].
[name]Felix[/name] - [name]Felix[/name] is another one that has a cool vibe. Though I have know a lot of cats named [name]Felix[/name] as well…
[name]Merlin[/name], [name]Moses[/name] - [name]Both[/name] of these seem a little out there to me. [name]Merlin[/name] - like the wizard? And there seem to be plenty of other more usable biblical name out there rather than [name]Moses[/name].
[name]Niall[/name], [name]Noah[/name] - [name]Niall[/name] is kind of cool. [name]Noah[/name] is an excellent example of a usable biblical name.
[name]Orlando[/name] - Meh. Not terrible.
[name]Reuben[/name], [name]Rowan[/name] - Not a fan of [name]Reuben[/name] - it reminds me of sandwiches. [name]Rowan[/name] is awesome.
[name]Soren[/name], [name]Sorrel[/name] - I kind of like [name]Soren[/name], but don’t care for [name]Sorrel[/name].
[name]Timothy[/name], [name]Toby[/name], [name]Torin[/name] - [name]Timothy[/name] seems dated, [name]Toby[/name] feels like a pet name, and [name]Torin[/name] is cool.
[name]Warren[/name] - Meh.
I loved your girls list and the boy’s is great too!
[name]Jude[/name], [name]Elijah[/name] and [name]Ezra[/name] are three of my favourite boy’s names. I’m a little concerned that [name]Elijah[/name] has hit top 100 for 2011 and it worries me that it’s a little trendy so I’m pondering moving it to a middle name on my list. [name]Ezra[/name] is the least popular but I just adore it but not in the combo [name]Ezra[/name] [name]Ronan[/name], which is way too R heavy. [name]Ezra[/name] [name]Dominic[/name], [name]Ezra[/name] [name]Daniel[/name], [name]Ezra[/name] [name]Patrick[/name], [name]Ezra[/name] [name]Michael[/name] would all sound better.
[name]Jude[/name] [name]Michael[/name], [name]Elijah[/name] [name]Patrick[/name], [name]Fraser[/name] [name]James[/name] and [name]Dylan[/name] [name]Elliot[/name] are all gorgeous!
[name]Noah[/name] [name]Patrick[/name] or [name]Noah[/name] [name]Elliot[/name] maybe?
You could also do [name]Declan[/name] [name]Vincent[/name] or [name]Declan[/name] [name]James[/name]. I will also second the previous poster’s [name]Jude[/name] [name]Byron[/name].
@alexp - thanks! I have the same concerns about [name]Ewan[/name] (although our surname isn’t [name]Wilson[/name] just similar to) [name]Ezra[/name] [name]James[/name] is lovely
@littlesoph - i love [name]Elijah[/name] [name]Patrick[/name] too, its probably my fave, i think it flows beautifully
theres lots of love for [name]Rhys[/name] [name]Elden[/name] & [name]Dylan[/name] [name]Elliot[/name]
@kala_way - [name]Jude[/name] [name]Byron[/name] is fab!
@sheflieswithherownwings - [name]Elijah[/name] being inside the top 100 doesn’t concern me too much, I can see it gradually moving up but not in the next few years. [name]Noah[/name] is top 20 i think in the UK which is a little too popular to go in the first spot for me, such a shame because its a gorgeous name I know a lot of little Noahs. [name]Soren[/name] [name]Elijah[/name] is lovely as is [name]Niall[/name] [name]Patrick[/name] (very Irish!) baba is due around St. Patricks day & my mums side of the family is Irish so I’ve developed a taste for Irish names.
@1234plus1 - not keen on [name]Odin[/name] but thanks for the suggestion, there was something soft but strong about the way i thought [name]Auden[/name] was pronounced
@vicioustrollop9 - again lots of opinions, interesting that you feel most of these names are dated, not sure exactly what you mean by that? Maybe they were trendy once where you live? Most i feel are classic names but each to their own I guess. [name]Just[/name] to clarify [name]Glyn[/name] is Welsh derivative of [name]Glenn[/name] not a creative spelling, its pronounced differently (like Gl-in not Gl -en). [name]Espen[/name] is not made up either. [name]Merlin[/name] is one I doubt we will use tbh but DH liked it so on the list it went. We both actually love [name]Moses[/name] and I don’t personally see how its less useable than other biblical names such as [name]Noah[/name], unfortunately though it sounds pretty odd with the strong ‘s’ in our surname so will probably be rejected because of that. I’m intrigued to know why [name]Reuben[/name] reminds you of sandwiches?
