I need some serious help from people who are willing to hear my crazy self out!
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]My[/name_f] two daughters are [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] and [name_f]Jane[/name_f]. I am expecting a third and I am having a hard time finding a name that we like that fits with both of my daughters. Although both names are different from one another, they both feel so warm to me, they fit my aesthetic of a brave little girl in a dress with bare feet in the garden. Both names have [name_m]Christian[/name_m] ties, which is important to me.
[name_f][/name_f]
Whenever we come up with a name we like, it seems to fit with [name_f]Marigold[/name_f], but not [name_f]Jane[/name_f], and vice versa. [name_f][/name_f]Ideally I am looking for a two syllable name to balance the others.
[name_f][/name_f]
For example, I like the names [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f], or [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], but feel like they are way too long and make [name_f]Jane[/name_f] seem even smaller. I like the name [name_f]Grace[/name_f] but don’t like that it is one syllable with [name_f]Jane[/name_f]. It would bother me that they aren’t balanced.
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite two syllable name is [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], but it does bother me a bit that [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] and [name_f]Jane[/name_f] are both 4 letters. I have thought about the [name_f]Lucie[/name_f] spelling but am unsure. Thoughts on that?
[name_f][/name_f]
I think [name_f]Louise[/name_f] would fit, but just don’t love it. I like [name_f]Flora[/name_f] but don’t love that it’s a flower name like [name_f]Marigold[/name_f]. I love [name_f]Frances[/name_f] but cannot use it.
[name_f][/name_f]
All this to say, I know I am overthinking it, but would love some two syllable girl names that help me bring my girls together! Thanks for helping me out and listening to me ramble!
Congratulations! Your girls have beautiful names [name_f][/name_f]Two syllables, more than four letters, hopefully some [name_m]Christian[/name_m] ties: [name_f]Marigold[/name_f], [name_f]Jane[/name_f], & …
[name_f]Thea[/name_f] and [name_f]Cherith[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f] come to mind first as they both have subtle [name_m]Christian[/name_m] ties as well and are 2 syllables. They also seem warm (at least to me).
I’d love to throw my support behind [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]. It seems really well balanced with your other girls [name_f][/name_f]- I like that it’s four letters, a la [name_f]Jane[/name_f], but the sound is longer and bouncy like [name_f]Marigold[/name_f]. The meaning light also feels gently [name_m]Christian[/name_m]. [name_f]Lucie[/name_f] as a spelling is good as well, though I prefer the more traditional [name_f]Lucy[/name_f].
[name_f][/name_f]
I think [name_f]Grace[/name_f] also works. Yes, it is one syllable and has a long history like [name_f]Jane[/name_f], but it is a word name like [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] and both have that strong g sound, and all three share the [name_m]Christian[/name_m] overtones and pleasantly similar vowel sounds. [name_f]Marigold[/name_f], [name_f]Jane[/name_f], and [name_f]Grace[/name_f] are an adorable set.
[name_f][/name_f]
Some other ideas:
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- means “pledged to God” and I think has the ties to [name_f]Jane[/name_f] while not being so trim / having a Marigold-like-rhythm. [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] or even [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] might also appeal.
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]Susanna[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- means lily and has some apocryphal bible ties as well as sounding like [name_f]Hosanna[/name_f]. Might be too floral, but isn’t as obvious as [name_f]Flora[/name_f] and has the same classic pedigree as [name_f]Jane[/name_f].
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- an early biblical [name_m]Christian[/name_m] with a fun, lilting name.
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] or [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- means “blessed” or “she who brings happiness”. [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] to me leans slightly quirky in the same way [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] does, but both have long literary histories.
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]Fenna[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- a bit of an outlier, but means “peace” in [name_m]Dutch[/name_m] and Frisian and is a lovely soft name that to me sounds a bit like a non-Frances [name_f]Frances[/name_f].
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this sparks something for you. Congrats on your upcoming little one!
You’ve come to the right place! We all love name puzzles.
I really think Frances nn Franny/Francy would be perfect with Marigold & Jane. I also really like Louisa (instead of Louise) with Marigold & Jane. These would be my fave of the sorts of names you’ve mentioned. I don’t think Lucy or Lucie quite holds up to Marigold. It works with Jane but together are overpowered/ outbalanced by Marigold.
Also, rather than having to have a two syllable name, my sense is you could go with three syllables as well if that name has fewer than 8 letters, and visually still looks short and upright (eg Emily) compared to Marigold.
So, how about:
Clara - probably my fave suggestion
Alice - don’t like the name but it works
Lydia
Verity
Eloise
Eliza
Elinor
Elspeth/ Elsbeth
Laurel
Amybeth - this is gorgeous with your other two
Estelle
Rosalie
Beatrice
Letitia
Charlotte
Lucette
Amelia
Tessa
Harriet
Emily
Phoebe
Celeste
Willa - my daughter’s name (and first middle is Fr@nces)
With Louisa and Frances (and subject to preferred meanings) these’d all work.
You’ve had so many beautiful suggestions (including your own, from your initial post), but I’ll just throw out a few more, since I think we might have similar taste in names, and the [name_m]Christian[/name_m] significance in naming my children is important to me as well.
This is a fun challenge! For the record, I love [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]! Here are a few other 2 syllable names for a sister to M a r i g o l d & J a n e:
I think [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] works great! I also think the longer names, especially [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], work. [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] has the same length as [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] but the very timeless classic feel of [name_f]Jane[/name_f] so it actually bridges the gap perfectly.
I love [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] with [name_f]Jane[/name_f] and [name_f]Marigold[/name_f]! Although it shares the same number of letters as [name_f]Jane[/name_f], I think it’s also connected to [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] as they share the long “e” sound, and the “gold” in [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] feels similar to Lucy’s meaning, “Light!”
I love [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] with the other two. [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Eloise[/name_f] also come to mind or [name_f]Florence[/name_f] based on your suggestions [name_f][/name_f]and also love others suggestions of [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] (or Bridie), [name_f]Ruby[/name_f]
A few thoughts and questions, if I may, that might be useful.
[name_f][/name_f]
I like when sibling sets are cohesive but I love being surprised by eclectic sets that work in ways you wouldn’t immediately expect. I wonder if there are any names you like outside your typical style, perhaps names previously discounted, that would actually make for a really happy assortment. Instead of bridging the names, the name is like a third pillar.
[name_f][/name_f]
I also feel like sometimes when you get stuck [name_f][/name_f] it helps to go back to the basics. Pretend this was your first daughter, not your third, and [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] and [name_f]Jane[/name_f] were names you couldn’t use because they were already the names of someone close, what would your list look like? What would your top 3 names be?
[name_f][/name_f]
Are you focusing on balance more this time than previous pregnancies? When you think about it, uneven numbers are pretty hard to balance. That’s probably why you were okay with [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] and [name_f]Jane[/name_f] feeling different when it was just two siblings, but a third is throwing you off. What if you created balance through the middle name, so it’s balanced as a whole? What if you balanced through meaning and vibes, and let go of style, length and syllables?
[name_f][/name_f]
I just think, if the process is no longer fun and you’re feeling stressed trying to meet your preferences, you might progress if you let some things go or change things up.
[name_f][/name_f]
Anyway, there have been lots of great suggestions already in this thread. I’ll just add an assortment of unexpected, vintage and classic names.
I love [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] for you! I think the fact it’s two syllables distracts from the fact its the same number of letters to [name_f]Jane[/name_f].
[name_f][/name_f]
I think [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] or [name_f]Luella[/name_f] would match well too
Your girls are beautifully named [name_f][/name_f]Your overall naming style is very Nameberry esque so hopefully the berries can help you come up with some ideas! Please count any repeats as me being in agreement with the berries…
Looking at your list of names discussed there are so many beauties [name_f]Louise[/name_f] is lovely and fits wonderfully. I also like [name_f]Louisa[/name_f]. I agree the other three do feel too longer however I think if you use [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] that wouldn’t feel as long. Shame you can’t use [name_f]Frances[/name_f] as she’s lovely! Finally I think [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] works she’s a Nameberry darling but not my personal favourite but I do think she works with your girls and I do prefer [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] spelling.
[name_f]Love[/name_f] your girls names!! Some more options:
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]Evelyn[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]Franji [name_f][/name_f]Caitlin/ [name_f]Katie[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]Cesca (pronounced like the end of Francesca) [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Anwen[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Georgia[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]Florrie/ Flòraidh [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Heidi[/name_f]
