Help with family names! (warning, LONG!)

I am finally cautiously expecting #3. DH doesn’t want to discuss names with me until we find out gender - he claims it eliminates 50% of the “stress” - I say it eliminates 50% of the FUN! So I was hoping you berries might be willing to discuss with me and give me your brilliant insights (apologies in advance as this might get long).

Background: I have 2 girls, [name]Kaya[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] (11 yrs) and [name]Lucia[/name] [name]Carmen[/name] (almost 4). [name]Both[/name] middles are after grandmothers on our fathers’ side. So, it’s important to me to use names from our mothers’ side for next baby (preferably both if possible, as this may be our last). DH is from Spain, so names need to be easily translated, preferably even spelled the same, like [name]Lucia[/name]. DH is also one of those husbands that says No to all of my favoritest names, yet offers no suggestions in return. The lists below are ones he hasn’t vehemently said no to, but not sure if he is completely on board with all of them. So onto the lists …

Oh, last name is Ch@varri - accent on the first a, so like the dance, cha-cha. Ending sounds like the end of ovary. Most people mispronounce to rhyme with Ferrari.

Boys:
[name]Frederic[/name] - this is my #1 choice, but DH says he’s not sure if he can get behind it as a FN. Is my mother’s father’s name who passed away a few years ago - wonderful person in my life.
[name]Samuel[/name] - on Dh’s side - his mother’s uncle and goes way back in family tree, but not the same personal connection. I also [name]LOVE[/name] the biblical story and meaning of this one. It’s same in Spanish and I adore both the full name and nn. However, don’t know if I can get over the popularity of it.
[name]Irvin[/name] - [name]MIL[/name]'s maiden name
[name]Tate[/name] - [name]MIL[/name]'s grandfather. I really like this one too, but afraid it is too similar to [name]Kate[/name], which some people call me.
[name]Graham[/name] - [name]MIL[/name]'s mother’s middle name
[name]Abram[/name] - a name I like that DH hasn’t vetoed. No family connection, though there is an [name]Abraham[/name].
[name]Joaquin[/name] - a long time favorite, FIL’s middle name. Like the nn [name]Quin[/name] for my family to use. However, we already used [name]Carmen[/name] for FIL’s mother.
Other family names from my mom’s side that I like but DH not sold - [name]Ferdinand[/name] ([name]Fernando[/name] is FIL’s dad also and I love Fernan as a nn), [name]Gardner[/name], [name]Harris[/name], [name]Charles[/name] (a no with our last name).
so, what would you come up with for a boy?

Girls:
Mother’s name is [name]Mary[/name] and [name]MIL[/name] is [name]Catherine[/name]
[name]Amara[/name] - this has been runner up for the last 2 babies, but didn’t quite make it. I still love it though. And I feel like it can be used to honor [name]Mary[/name].
[name]Beatrice[/name]/[name]Beatriz[/name] - I love this name and am torn between the 2. DH is afraid people would mispronounce [name]Beatriz[/name], but I love the nn [name]Bea[/name] (sounds like [name]Bay[/name]-a in Spanish). I equally adore the vintage-ness of [name]Beatrice[/name]. [name]Love[/name] the meaning of this name, as well as sound and nn’s. If DH would agree, I think it would be my #1.
[name]Carys[/name] - I love this name and its meaning. I think it can be tribute to [name]Catherine[/name] and [name]Mary[/name] (who’s last name starts with a S). Too much of a stretch? Is it too close to [name]Kaya[/name]?
[name]Isla[/name] - this is one that DH really likes. We are currently living on an island in the Carib, so it’s a nod to that. I think it is too close in sound to [name]Kaya[/name] for a FN though, but he doesn’t - what do you think?
[name]Natalia[/name] - this has been DH’s only suggestion and thus deserves a place on this list. I do love the name and the sound and think it fits nicely with our daughters, but [name]Natalie[/name] is SO popular and I don’t know if that would ultimately bother me too much.
Middle name possibilities (other than those above which are also considerations) ” [name]Catharine[/name] (after [name]MIL[/name] and me, [name]Katharine[/name]), [name]Nell[/name] (last 4 letters of my maiden name), [name]Fern[/name] (family name [name]Fernando[/name]/[name]Ferdinand[/name]), [name]Vida[/name] (after DH [name]David[/name]).

So, what can you do with these lists? Or do you have any other suggestions (keeping in mind my DH has vetoed tons already!)? Thanks in advance!

Using your list to name a boy, I’d go with [name]Samuel[/name] [name]Frederic[/name]. Those are both such terrific names! Using your girl’s list, I would go with [name]Isla[/name] [name]Catharine[/name]. (I don’t see [name]Kaya[/name] & [name]Isla[/name] as too close.) In honor of your maiden name, I think [name]Natalia[/name] [name]Nell[/name] would be great too! I like [name]Amara[/name] quite a lot, but not so much with your last name.

If you have a boy, my favorite name is [name]Graham[/name] [name]Frederic[/name], and for a girl I like [name]Amara[/name] [name]Fern[/name]. I also like [name]Beatrice[/name] [name]Fern[/name], but I don’t think it goes quite as well with your daughters names.

[name]How[/name] fun! I like:

[name]Frederic[/name] [name]Samuel[/name]
[name]Beatriz[/name] [name]Vida[/name]

[name]Kaya[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name], [name]Lucia[/name] [name]Carmen[/name] and…
Brother
[name]Abram[/name] [name]Frederic[/name]
[name]Joaquin[/name] [name]Samuel[/name]
[name]Sister[/name]
[name]Natalia[/name] [name]Fern[/name]
[name]Vida[/name] [name]Catharine[/name] or [name]Vida[/name] [name]Beatriz[/name]

Girls;

[name]Natalia[/name] [name]Beatriz[/name]
[name]Carys[/name] [name]Vida[/name]

Boys;

[name]Samuel[/name] [name]Joaquin[/name]
[name]Frederic[/name] [name]Harris[/name]

For a boy, I like [name]Frederic[/name] [name]Samuel[/name] or second choice [name]Samuel[/name] [name]Frederic[/name]. I like the family connection of both names and I think they’re both handsome with [name]Kaya[/name] and [name]Lucia[/name].

For a girl, I love [name]Beatriz[/name]. DH might be right that it could be mistaken for the sound of [name]Beatrice[/name] but to me that’s an easy correction to make and easy for others to remember. I love, love the nn [name]Bea[/name] prn [name]Bay[/name]-a. I also like that it doesn’t end in A like the older girls. [name]Beatriz[/name] [name]Nell[/name] or [name]Beatriz[/name] [name]Vida[/name]. Second choice would be [name]Natalia[/name] (I don’t think [name]Natalie[/name] is really that common, plus you could use nn [name]Talia[/name] or maybe [name]Tally[/name]). [name]Natalia[/name] [name]Fern[/name] is lovely.

Good luck!

Thanks everyone for your suggestions! You all came up with some combos that I hadn’t thought of and I really like!

I imagine if it’s a boy, he will either be [name]Frederic[/name] (not sure of favorite mn yet) or [name]Samuel[/name] [name]Frederic[/name]. I have been dreaming of a [name]Frederic[/name] for a long time and can’t see myself giving it up.

Girls are so much trickier! I am going to add all of your suggestions to my lists for DH to review (if it ends up being a girl).

everwaiteing - you mentioned [name]Amara[/name] and my last name and that is one of my hesitations with it - SO many people mispronounce it and it would end up rhyming with [name]Amara[/name]. I also am a nicknamer and don’t love any of the nn possibilities with [name]Amara[/name]. But I have loved the name so long it’s hard to let it go!

I saw you have a [name]Mary[/name] in your family. I think [name]Mariana[/name] is beautiful if you want another suggestion.

Thanks [name]Fay[/name] - I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Mariana[/name]! And my grandmother is [name]Marianne[/name], my mom is [name]Mary[/name] and I love the Spanish flavor of [name]Mariana[/name]. But I think I’ve suggested this to DH before and he nixed it, however I am going to add it back to the list and see what he says this time around since I’m not certain.
