I’m in my last trimester for baby #4. Siblings are [name_m]Jack[/name_m], [name_u]George[/name_u] and [name_m]Andrew[/name_m].
For a boy, we have chosen [name_u]Benjamin[/name_u] [name_m]Joseph[/name_m]
For a girl, I’m torn between
Catherine [name_u]Anne[/name_u] and calling her Catherine
and Anna [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] and calling her Anna [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] by both names. We are in the south, so this is popular/acceptable.
My concern with the double name is that I like [name_f]Anna[/name_f] less than [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]. As an adult or even school aged child, people may just shorten her name to [name_f]Anna[/name_f]. It seems that everyone who hears the name options prefers [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] over [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] [name_u]Anne[/name_u] - including her 3 older brothers. Any wisdom?
The boys go by a single name, and we would just call [name_u]Benjamin[/name_u] by his first name.
Anna [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] is gorgeous, I have to agree I do prefer it as it flows a bit better imo than [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] [name_u]Anne[/name_u], which almost share a final syllable. However, if your heart lies with [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] over [name_f]Anna[/name_f], I would choose [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] [name_u]Anne[/name_u]. The flow is really up to personal preference!
I like [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] [name_u]Anne[/name_u]. I think having an [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] with big brother [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] might get confusing
Jack [name_u]George[/name_u] , [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] and [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] feel like a regal group!
It seems you prefer [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]. And I do think if she winds up leaving the south, it will be less likely she’ll want to go by 2 names, and less likely people will call her by both.
I also like that with [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] as the name, each child has their own first initial.
whilst [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] is my personal preference, it really sounds that you prefer [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], so I think you should go with it. [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] really is a lovely name! how do you feel about [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] [name_f]Anna[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] [name_u]Anne[/name_u]? I think it flows a little better.
I think you’ll want to go with the first name you love the most. You can always rework the middle until you have a combo you love the flow of just as much. I would consider [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] [name_f]Anna[/name_f] instead of [name_u]Anne[/name_u] because the sounds are more different at the end. I really love both names as a first. I love that [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] can be ([name_f]Cat[/name_f]). And for [name_f]Anna[/name_f] I absolutely adore it with the Russian pronunciation but I’m not crazy about the [name_f]English[/name_f] pronunciation. You could call a little [name_f]Anna[/name_f] ([name_f]Anya[/name_f]). I named my DD [name_f]Anya[/name_f] because of the pronunciation issue we wanted to avoid with [name_f]Anna[/name_f] and we will call her either at home.
I think [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] [name_u]Anne[/name_u] sounds better than [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], although I prefer [name_f]Anna[/name_f] as a name. If you prefer [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] I would go with that. It also has great nn possibilities [name_f]Kate[/name_f], [name_f]Katie[/name_f], [name_f]Kitty[/name_f], [name_u]Kit[/name_u], [name_f]Erin[/name_f], [name_f]Cathy[/name_f], Cath,
I say go with [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] if you like it more than [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] because on its own [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] is pretty likely to become a [name_f]Catie[/name_f] or [name_f]Cate[/name_f]. Im in the south too and I knew a [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] growing up and it felt totally natural to call her by her full name. Consider the [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] nicknames is my suggestion.
I love the idea of [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] as a double name, as it sounds stunning, but if you prefer [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] over [name_f]Anna[/name_f], then I think it would make sense to choose that as the first name. [name_f]My[/name_f] name is [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] and I love it. It’s really suited me well for every stage of life and I think there are great nickname possibilities, though I typically just go by [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]. It also sounds perfect with her siblings, while [name_f]Anna[/name_f] and [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] are a little similar.
On the other hand, a lot of people go by their middle name. Both my mother and my mother-in-law go by nicknames for their middle names ([name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Lynette[/name_f] nn [name_u]Lyn[/name_u] and [name_f]Doris[/name_f] [name_f]Teresa[/name_f] nn [name_f]Tere[/name_f]), so it’s not impossible to call her [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] and still have her end up going by [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]. You would just have to establish that if she’s only going by one name, it’s [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]. It’s not impossible to do, it just might be a little bit of work to make it happen.
When talking about your kids, I would use your name options casually and see which one starts to stand out to you and blend with you sibling set. I know this sounds a bit weird, but the more you hear the names in everyday conversation, the more one will become a clear winner. This is tricky–they’re both lovely options! [name_f]My[/name_f] own inclination is towards [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] because a) it’s just beautiful! and b) my personal preference between the two names leans towards [name_f]Anna[/name_f]. But it sounds like you prefer [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], and that you would be sad if her name ever got shortened to just-[name_f]Anna[/name_f]. I don’t think people would have a problem calling her by the full double name, but as others have mentioned, there’s always the possibility that she would drop the double name. [name_m]Add[/name_m] to that the fact that [name_f]Anna[/name_f] and [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] are a little more similar than I would want for siblings, and I think the lovely [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] [name_u]Anne[/name_u] gets my vote!
I prefer [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], but [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] [name_u]Anne[/name_u] seems to fit in better with the siblings. But both are nice, and you can’t go wrong with either.
I have a double name and live in the south, but my mother is the only one on the planet who calls me by both, so I think you’re right to worry about the general population calling her [name_f]Anna[/name_f] if you name her [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] and aren’t fond of [name_f]Anna[/name_f] by itself. [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] [name_u]Anne[/name_u] is a lovely name, as is [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] by itself.
I prefer [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] [name_u]Anne[/name_u], I love [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]’s classical vibe and [name_f]Cathie[/name_f] as a nickname In terms of using two names, I know a [name_f]Cathie[/name_f] [name_u]Anne[/name_u] and IMO this flows better than [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] together and is also cute. [name_f]Anna[/name_f] is simply lovely but If I were going to have an [name_f]Anna[/name_f] with an [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] I’d maybe go for something more distinctive like [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] or [name_f]Annalise[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] then you also have the nn options of [name_f]Bella[/name_f] & [name_f]Elise[/name_f]/Alice. Best of luck!
Ditto this, also adding that she would probably just get called [name_f]Anna[/name_f] if you name her [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f].
