We are expecting our first daughter this summer - big brothers are [name_u]Owen[/name_u] and [name_u]Liam[/name_u]. [name_u]Owen[/name_u]’s middle name is a family surname and [name_u]Liam[/name_u]’s middle name is DH’s name, which is also a family surname.
We are pretty set on [name_f]Ella[/name_f] for her first name, but I’m having trouble picking a middle name. I love [name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f], but [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] is my first name (I go by a nn), and I can’t decide if I feel weird giving her my name.
My other top contender is [name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]. [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] is a family name on my side.
One other note -
[name_f]Ella[/name_f] is a family name on my husband’s side, so I think that probably satisfies my desire to use at least one family name for each child and frees me up to just pick a name we like for a MN.
Anyway if you’ve read this far, I’d love suggestions or feedback! If I want to avoid giving her my name, is there a name with a similar feeling to [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] that might go well with [name_f]Ella[/name_f]?

Ella [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] is great- I’m not one for double barrel names or nicknames but I love the idea of [name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] (only if you don’t go by [name_f]Kate[/name_f]). [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] is also lovely in the midddle spot. I think you’ve got two great choices. I really enjoy the idea of mother’s giving daughters their names; so cool! I think [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] edges out [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] for me because of that

Ella [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] is lovely! So is [name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f], but I do like the idea of using one family name from each side, and if you’re not keen on using your own name, then [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] seems like the better option.

I don’t see [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] as a problem! I mean, my dad’s fn is my brother’s mn! I also second the idea of spelling it [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]. [name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] just looks more visually satisfying that way. It’s also easier to write than the K version.
Dads have had children named after them forever… moms should not feel weird!!
It’s a great honor for your baby to carry on your name in the middle spot. I definitely vote [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] in honor of you!!

I like the idea of [name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] I do not think it’s strange using your name in the middle name slot after all we honour children’s fathers all the time there are plenty of juniors running around so why not honour the child’s mother? [name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] is such a classic sounding name it’s so pretty! If your not keen on the idea of [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] names that are similar which could work are
