Our second daughter is due in [name]July[/name]. Here’s my short list:
[name]Charlotte[/name] (my DH is [name]Charles[/name], so this makes a lot of sense)
[name]Claire[/name]*
[name]Dorothea[/name]
[name]Dorothy[/name] (family name)
[name]Elizabeth[/name]* (religious)
[name]Evelyn[/name]
[name]Joanna[/name] (religious)
[name]Junia[/name] (religious)
[name]Louisa[/name]
[name]Luna[/name]*
[name]Margaret[/name]* (family name)
[name]Margot[/name]
[name]Mary[/name]/[name]Marie[/name] (family name) (religious)
[name]Penelope[/name]*
[name]Ruth[/name] (family name) (religious)
[name]Sophia[/name]/[name]Sophie[/name] (love it but SO popular) (religious)
*DH’s top five.
DD #1 is [name]Zoe[/name] [name]Katherine[/name]. I love the zippy first name/classic mn combo.
[name]Katherine[/name] is my mother’s name, so we’d like to represent the other side of the family with DD #2 ([name]MIL[/name] is [name]Mary[/name] [name]Sue[/name]… not opposed to [name]Sue[/name] as a mn).
We are religious and chose [name]Zoe[/name] in part because of the connotation/usage of the Greek in the [name]New[/name] Testament.
Logically, something like [name]Sophia[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] is a practical choice because its consistent with the NT/Greek theme, represents family, and is (a little) zippy/classic. On the other hand, [name]Sophia[/name] is so popular.
[name]Charlotte[/name] is also a little too popular for my taste… but names like [name]Elizabeth[/name] and [name]Mary[/name] are classic enough that I don’t really care.
[name]Uber[/name] feminine names (I think of names like [name]Arabella[/name]) are beautiful but aren’t really “us.”
A names are off limits as are [name]Caroline[/name] and [name]Madeline[/name] (as they are taken).
Some top contenders for combinations:
[name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Joanna[/name]
[name]Luna[/name] [name]Penelope[/name]/[name]Penelope[/name] [name]Luna[/name] (way out of left field, really)
[name]Dorothea[/name] [name]Claire[/name]
Any thoughts/reflections?
Thanks in advance. I appreciate the honest and thoughtful feedback I receive here.
With the spunky [name]Zoe[/name], I think these names from your list would be complementary. They have the same lively spark as [name]Zoe[/name]'s name.
[name]Margaret[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] is beautiful. You could reverse it and do [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] and I like it just as much.
I really like [name]Penelope[/name] and [name]Luna[/name] with [name]Zoe[/name].
[name]Penelope[/name] [name]Sue[/name] or [name]Penelope[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Luna[/name] [name]Mary[/name] or [name]Luna[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name]
I really like [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Joanna[/name]. Other combinations you might like:
[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Claire[/name] or [name]Claire[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]
[name]Luna[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Mary[/name] [name]Sophia[/name] or [name]Sophia[/name] [name]Mary[/name]
[name]Penelope[/name] [name]Ruth[/name]
Congratulations!
I think it would be lovely to continue with the Greek association. I love [name]Sophia[/name] she seems to fit your bill wonderfully, even though [name]Sophia[/name] is popular [name]Zoe[/name] isn’t really unusual. I don’t think popularity is really a huge issue considering your other beautiful contenders like [name]Charlotte[/name], [name]Elizabeth[/name], [name]Evelyn[/name] and [name]Claire[/name] which are ultimately very popular. If you love the name go for it!
I love a lot of the names on your list like [name]Dorothea[/name], [name]Dorothy[/name], [name]Penelope[/name] etc but I don’t think they work with [name]Zoe[/name] as she’s such a short clipped name with a lot of attitude. To go with [name]Zoe[/name] [name]Katherine[/name] I’d use a short, spunky name the names that work with [name]Zoe[/name]. From the list I’d use [name]Junia[/name], [name]Luna[/name] and [name]Margot[/name] my top contender being [name]Sophia[/name].
Middle name suggestions:
[name]Junia[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]
[name]Luna[/name] [name]Ruth[/name] I also love [name]Luna[/name] [name]Penelope[/name]
[name]Margot[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name]
If I was you I’d use [name]Sophia[/name] [name]Margaret[/name].
