Help with name for first girl after 3 boys

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there,

My husband and I are having a difficult time naming our fourth child. After three boys, we are expecting a girl in late [name_u]March[/name_u]. Its been a challenge finding the right name for her and the right fit for our family. Our sons names are [name_u]Hudson[/name_u], [name_m]Brooks[/name_m] and [name_m]Conley[/name_m].

When we had our first son [name_u]Hudson[/name_u], we didn’t know the gender and had two girl names picked out–[name_u]Avery[/name_u] [name_u]Lane[/name_u] and [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f]. But in the recent year, before we knew we were expecting another child and a girl at that, those names have been used by close friends and acquaintances. When expecting our second son, the name if he were to be a girl was going to be [name_u]Harper[/name_u]. We still like [name_u]Harper[/name_u] very much, but are concerned that there could be several harpers starting kindergarten together since it’s becoming so popular.

I’ve never been one to want to choose a top 10 name, wanting my child to have a little distinction, but not to have too odd of a name, which is why I think I have gravitated toward surnames. But with this little one, although tempted to name her [name_u]Dylan[/name_u] or [name_u]Drew[/name_u], I really would rather try to give her something more feminine. The only other names we have discussed are as follows:

[name_f]Lily[/name_f]-son’s suggestion and she will be born around [name_f]Easter[/name_f], but not sure it flows with the boys names plus popular
Maelyn-husband kind of made up and I’m not too sold on–the [name_f]Mae[/name_f] though would honor his grandmother
[name_u]Everly[/name_u] (same flow concern with boys names with the ly ending)
[name_f]Emme[/name_f]
[name_f]Kinsey[/name_f]/[name_f]Kinsley[/name_f]-husband likes but I think it’s too similar to [name_m]Conley[/name_m]
[name_f]Adelyn[/name_f]
[name_u]Adley[/name_u]
[name_f]Kate[/name_f]- I love how it sounds with boys names, husband doesn’t like at all
[name_u]Quinn[/name_u] and [name_u]Quincy[/name_u]- same as [name_f]Kate[/name_f] reasons
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f]
[name_u]Harper[/name_u]-wish I could find something similar but not so popular.

Some middle names:[name_u]Lane[/name_u], [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Mae[/name_f], [name_m]Charles[/name_m], [name_f]Elaine[/name_f], but we are open to anything really. Anyway, as you can see we have no clue. Can you help?

My favorites are; [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Emme[/name_f], [name_f]Adelyn[/name_f], and [name_u]Harper[/name_u].

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there! I think the ones, from your current list, that work best with your boys are: [name_f]Lily[/name_f] (some names are popular for a reason imho), [name_u]Quinn[/name_u], and [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]. I wouldn’t use [name_f]Kinsey[/name_f] simply because it’s so tied to [name_m]Alfred[/name_m] [name_f]Kinsey[/name_f]; not necessarily a “bad” connotation but I think that’s the first thought for a lot of people.

Here are my suggestions:

[name_m]Adler[/name_m] (I personally love this for girls, and I think it would be nice to have the [name_f]Irene[/name_f] [name_m]Adler[/name_m] connection! Also works with your boys’ names.)
[name_u]Hadley[/name_u]
[name_f]Catherine[/name_f]/[name_f]Katherine[/name_f] (to get to [name_f]Kate[/name_f]?)
[name_f]Kitty[/name_f]
[name_f]Bronwyn[/name_f]
[name_u]Delaney[/name_u]
[name_f]Jessamy[/name_f]
[name_f]Philippa[/name_f]/[name_f]Pippa[/name_f]
[name_f]Poppy[/name_f]
[name_f]Gemma[/name_f]
[name_f]Mabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Annabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Maeve[/name_f]
[name_f]Maisie[/name_f]
[name_f]Cleo[/name_f]/[name_f]Clio[/name_f]
[name_f]Blythe[/name_f]
[name_u]Guthrie[/name_u]
[name_u]Gray[/name_u]
[name_u]Sutton[/name_u]
[name_f]Willow[/name_f]
[name_f]Livia[/name_f]
[name_f]Lila[/name_f]
[name_u]Winslow[/name_u]
[name_f]Fay[/name_f]/[name_f]Faye[/name_f]

[name_u]Everly[/name_u] is lovely. If you like [name_u]Harper[/name_u], regardless of popularity, use it, you should use a name you love. But if it really bothers you, what about [name_u]Piper[/name_u] or [name_u]Sailor[/name_u]?
Others for consideration:
[name_u]Ainsley[/name_u]
[name_f]Carys[/name_f]
[name_u]Eden[/name_u] nn [name_f]Edie[/name_f]
[name_f]Emilia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Emme[/name_f], [name_f]Emmie[/name_f] or [name_f]Mila[/name_f]
[name_u]Finley[/name_u]
[name_u]Juniper[/name_u]
[name_f]Maura[/name_f]
[name_u]Paisley[/name_u]
[name_f]Sarai[/name_f]
[name_u]Teagan[/name_u]
[name_f]Zara[/name_f]

With [name_u]Hudson[/name_u], [name_m]Brooks[/name_m], and [name_m]Conley[/name_m] (all magnificent names, btw), I would have initially suggested a less feminine name for your daughter. Stylistically, [name_u]Harper[/name_u] or [name_u]Avery[/name_u] work very well with your other childrens’ names. But there are definitely some more feminine names on your list that I really loved and thought fit right in with your sons’ names!

[name_f]Lily[/name_f]- I definitely think this works wonderfully! [name_u]Hudson[/name_u], [name_m]Brooks[/name_m], [name_m]Conley[/name_m] and [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. Sounds good to me! It’s feminine without being too frilly, which is what I think makes it fit in so well.
Maelyn- not a big fan of “[name_f]Mae[/name_f]” names…maybe a middle?
[name_u]Everly[/name_u]- NMS
[name_f]Emme[/name_f]- I loooove [name_f]Emme[/name_f], and I think this gives you a good opportunity to use a feminine name that still fits in with your naming style so far. Personally, I love [name_f]Emme[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]! That could work for you, or maybe [name_u]Emerson[/name_u] is a better fit? That’s a great name, too.
[name_f]Kinsey[/name_f]/[name_f]Kinsley[/name_f]- I agree that this is too similar to [name_m]Conley[/name_m]
[name_f]Adelyn[/name_f]- I prefer [name_f]Adeline[/name_f], nn [name_f]Addie[/name_f]. [name_u]Unique[/name_u], feminine full name with a less girly, spunky nickname.
[name_u]Adley[/name_u]- NMS
[name_f]Kate[/name_f]- I think it sounds great with the boys’ names, sorry it’s been vetoed. Maybe [name_f]Katelyn[/name_f] or something a bit longer would be better, with the nickname [name_f]Kate[/name_f]? Otherwise, maybe use [name_f]Kate[/name_f] as a middle name!
[name_u]Quinn[/name_u] and [name_u]Quincy[/name_u]- not a fan of [name_u]Quincy[/name_u] at all. [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] is okay, but not the best you have on your list [name_f]IMO[/name_f].
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f]- I like this name, but I definitely prefer [name_f]Lily[/name_f] to [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] (they are very similar to me, which is why I compared them this way).
[name_u]Harper[/name_u]- this is getting popular; similar names I would suggest are: [name_f]Harlow[/name_f] (top suggestion), [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], [name_u]Piper[/name_u], [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_f]Audrey[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_u]Wren[/name_u]

The only middle I don’t love is [name_m]Charles[/name_m]; I like [name_u]Lane[/name_u], [name_f]Rose[/name_f], and [name_f]Elaine[/name_f]. [name_f]Mae[/name_f] works, but NMS.

Another middle name to potentially consider is [name_f]Raine[/name_f]- it’s been a favorite of mine for a while, and it combines the ending of [name_f]Elaine[/name_f] with the beginning of [name_f]Rose[/name_f], too. I think [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Raine[/name_f], as well as [name_f]Harlow[/name_f] [name_f]Elaine[/name_f], [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_u]Lane[/name_u], and [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] “[name_f]Emme[/name_f]” [name_f]Rose[/name_f] are my favorites.

Good luck!

I like:

[name_f]Lydia[/name_f]
Maelyn
[name_f]Lily[/name_f]
[name_f]Adelyn[/name_f]
[name_f]Kate[/name_f]
[name_f]Emme[/name_f]

I really dislike(way too trendy):

[name_u]Harper[/name_u]
[name_u]Dylan[/name_u]
[name_u]Everly[/name_u]
[name_f]Kinsley[/name_f]
[name_f]Kinsey[/name_f]
[name_u]Quincy[/name_u]

I really like the name [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. However, since your boys names are surname names is doesn’t feel as structured beside them. I would use [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] with [name_f]Lily[/name_f] as a nick name so that way her full name has the same level of formality as your boys. That being said, since she’s your only girl I don’t think it’s as important that the style matches as closely.
Here are some combos…
[name_f]Lillian[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f]
[name_f]Lillian[/name_f] [name_u]Drew[/name_u]
[name_f]Lillian[/name_f] [name_u]Harper[/name_u]

If you wanted to go with the same style as [name_u]Harper[/name_u] here are some alternatives…
[name_u]Cameron[/name_u] (I think [name_f]Cammie[/name_f] is a nice nn)
[name_u]Emerson[/name_u] (nn [name_f]Emmy[/name_f])
[name_u]Leighton[/name_u]
[name_u]Sheridan[/name_u]
[name_u]Hadley[/name_u]
[name_u]Adair[/name_u]
And then just to throw a random name out there… [name_u]March[/name_u]

[name_u]Harper[/name_u] reminds me of:

[name_u]Arden[/name_u]
[name_f]Harlow[/name_f]
[name_u]Marlowe[/name_u]

I like all of them with [name_f]Kate[/name_f]:
[name_u]Arden[/name_u] [name_f]Kate[/name_f]
[name_f]Harlow[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f]

I love the idea of:

[name_u]Adair[/name_u]
[name_u]Abilene[/name_u]
[name_u]Sawyer[/name_u]
[name_f]Greer[/name_f]
[name_f]Willa[/name_f]

Of all your choices [name_u]Harper[/name_u], [name_f]Adelyn[/name_f], [name_u]Quinn[/name_u], and [name_f]Kate[/name_f] are my favorites with your boys.

Other suggestions
[name_f]Allaire[/name_f]
[name_u]Parker[/name_u]
[name_u]Campbell[/name_u]
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u]
[name_u]Ellis[/name_u]
[name_f]Nell[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_u]Arlo[/name_u]
[name_f]Lola[/name_f]
[name_f]Lila[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_u]Schuyler[/name_u] or [name_u]Skylar[/name_u]
[name_u]Eden[/name_u]
[name_u]Wren[/name_u]
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_f]Freya[/name_f]
[name_u]Flannery[/name_u]

[name_m]How[/name_m] about Catesby? It leads to [name_f]Cate[/name_f] or Cates for a nn.

Thanks for all the input and suggestions! It really gives me a lot to think about and has helped me narrow this down some!

I posted a while back about a name for our 4th baby, first girl. Since that time, we have not really made much progress in the name department and we will be welcoming baby this coming Thursday. So I’m a bit unsettled that we (ok, maybe I) just haven’t reached confidence on a name, thus coming back for a little help:)

Our list hasn’t changed much, except that now my husband likes the name [name_u]Quincy[/name_u] (that I had let go since he didn’t like it before when I had try to sell him on it) and now i’m trying to decide if I go for it or not now that he does likes it. He found the name in his family history and all the sudden he really likes it which also helps me feel much better about it as well. So for him, he thinks we should name her [name_u]Quincy[/name_u] or the name that we have had on our list since the beginning of kiddos–[name_u]Harper[/name_u].

I find my conflict the same with [name_u]Harper[/name_u] as before. [name_u]Love[/name_u] the name, but concerned its so popular that my little one will be known as [name_u]Harper[/name_u] B. in every class:) [name_u]Harper[/name_u] for me long ago when we found it had that unique vibe with the surname stability, but now, its lost its uniqueness. So then, I go to [name_u]Quincy[/name_u] which is not common at all for girl and has some uniqueness for a girl, but could be too far a stretch maybe? I only think that because most people I have mentioned it too, seem to not respond to it and start listing other names which makes me think they don’t like it too much:) I do like that [name_u]Quincy[/name_u] gives her the option of [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] as a stand-by, but I probably won’t really call her that, I guess only for her if she hates her name growing up–which is why I’m stressing over this to begin with, I want to feel confident about this choice.

I think the only other names we still have on the list is [name_u]Everly[/name_u] and maybe [name_f]Lily[/name_f] (but recently a friend named her daughter this). Although they don’t come up nearly as much in our conversations as [name_u]Quincy[/name_u] and [name_u]Harper[/name_u]. I think we are going to go with [name_f]Rose[/name_f] as middle name to honor his grandmother. So I’m in need of some clarity and sound advice. I’m ready to decide:)

Hello and congrats on your baby girl ! Out of your choices I would definitely go with [name_u]Quincy[/name_u]. [name_u]Harper[/name_u] is insanely popular right now. [name_u]Quincy[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is adorable.
When I was reading through this post there were a few names that I thought of that would match your other kids names. I think you can choose a really strong surname choice ([name_u]Quincy[/name_u] is the perfect example) and it would sound great with her brothers. Here are the ones I thought of if you would like any extra names to take with you to the hospital :

[name_f]Jolie[/name_f]
[name_u]Campbell[/name_u]
[name_u]Finley[/name_u]
[name_u]Sawyer[/name_u]
[name_u]Ainsley[/name_u]
[name_u]Holland[/name_u]
[name_u]Sutton[/name_u]
[name_m]Tennyson[/name_m]
[name_f]Dixie[/name_f]
[name_u]Hartley[/name_u]

God luck with your choice!

Are you looking for more suggestions, or to narrow down the choices you already have? [name_m]Just[/name_m] in case, I’ll give feedback on both options.

[name_u]Hudson[/name_u], [name_m]Brooks[/name_m], [name_m]Conley[/name_m], and [name_f]Lily[/name_f] - I can see why this one would be awkward in the sibset, given that it shares the same ending as [name_m]Conley[/name_m] and is a very different style than your boys’ names. [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] would be too many flowers, in my opinion, but [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] could be a good combo and work in one of your husband’s honor names.

[name_u]Hudson[/name_u], [name_m]Brooks[/name_m], [name_m]Conley[/name_m], and [name_u]Everly[/name_u] - I am biased because [name_u]Everly[/name_u] is one of my favorite names. I like that it sounds feminine while still being unisex. I do think it fits beautifully with the style of your boys’ names, and [name_u]Everly[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is practically swoonworthy. The only drawback I can see is the repeated ending with [name_m]Conley[/name_m].

You could go with [name_u]Ever[/name_u], perhaps…[name_u]Hudson[/name_u], [name_m]Brooks[/name_m], [name_m]Conley[/name_m], and [name_u]Ever[/name_u]. I think it still works beautifully, though I’m not sure about the combo [name_u]Ever[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f], since the R’s run together. [name_u]Ever[/name_u] [name_u]Quincy[/name_u]? [name_u]Ever[/name_u] [name_u]Harper[/name_u]? [name_u]Ever[/name_u] [name_f]Lily[/name_f]? That one’s lovely!

[name_u]Hudson[/name_u], [name_m]Brooks[/name_m], [name_m]Conley[/name_m], and [name_u]Quincy[/name_u] - I have trouble with this combo. It’s partly my personal taste shining through, as I’ve never been on the [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] train for girls. I have to say though, seeing them written out, I would think that [name_u]Quincy[/name_u] is your fourth boy. That may not bother you, which is fine. I just thought I would point it out. [name_u]Quincy[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is very spunky and has good flow.

[name_u]Hudson[/name_u], [name_m]Brooks[/name_m], [name_m]Conley[/name_m], and [name_u]Harper[/name_u] - This is my second favorite of your options, next to [name_u]Everly[/name_u]. It fits well with the style of your boys’ names while still being recognizably feminine. My concerns would be sharing the first initial with [name_u]Hudson[/name_u], and the popularity factor. [name_u]Harper[/name_u] is huge right now, and you’re right to assume that there will be many little Harpers running around the school and probably more than one in her class.

Some suggestions based on your style:

[name_u]Hudson[/name_u], [name_m]Brooks[/name_m], [name_m]Conley[/name_m], and [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_u]Hudson[/name_u], [name_m]Brooks[/name_m], [name_m]Conley[/name_m], and [name_u]Piper[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]

[name_u]Hudson[/name_u], [name_m]Brooks[/name_m], [name_m]Conley[/name_m], and [name_u]Fifer[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_u]Hudson[/name_u], [name_m]Brooks[/name_m], [name_m]Conley[/name_m], and [name_f]Maren[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]

[name_u]Hudson[/name_u], [name_m]Brooks[/name_m], [name_m]Conley[/name_m], and [name_u]Waverly[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_u]Hudson[/name_u], [name_m]Brooks[/name_m], [name_m]Conley[/name_m], and [name_u]Darcy[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps! :sparkles:

I think [name_u]Quincy[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is cute, but [name_u]Harper[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] would be my favourite of the two.

[name_u]Harper[/name_u] has been with you for a while now and you keep coming back to it. The only think preventing you from using it is popularity. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you know any little Harpers in your social circle? I’ve never met any or heard of any in real life. Is it very popular in your area?

If you can live with the possibility of her being one of a few Harpers in her class as a worst case scenario, then I think [name_u]Harper[/name_u] is the name you should use. I think it’s the name you WANT to use, deep down, as you keep coming back to it. I think there will be more [name_f]Sophia[/name_f], [name_f]Isabella[/name_f], [name_f]Emma[/name_f], [name_f]Ava[/name_f], and [name_f]Emily[/name_f] contenders than there were Jennifers, Jessicas, and Sarahs when we were younger. It really all comes down to

  1. [name_m]Will[/name_m] you regret not using [name_u]Harper[/name_u]?
  2. Is the possibility of there being another [name_u]Harper[/name_u] in her life a deal-breaker?

I think you should use it. Best of luck to you.

Have you dropped the [name_f]Mae[/name_f] names? There’s a nice name that’s quite well known in [name_f]France[/name_f], [name_f]Maelys[/name_f]. (Pronounced ma-el-ise. For me, [name_u]Quincy[/name_u] sounds too masculine, and it’s a last name that still sounds like a last name. I do like [name_u]Harper[/name_u] though - why not use that and give her a cute nickname ([name_u]Scout[/name_u] lol?)

What about a name like Colins? It definitely fits your strong surname flow without being too masculine.

It must be time for the girls to come… woo hoo!

We had 3 boys first, as well…

I’m going to suggest some names that rock, sound good with your beautifully named boys and that I wish I could use but friends or family beat me to it…

[name_f]Greer[/name_f]
[name_f]Gemma[/name_f]
[name_u]Holland[/name_u]
Colins (with a super feminine middle like [name_f]Rose[/name_f])
