Help with name for our daughter (boy/girl twins)

[name]Hi[/name] all,

We are expecting boy/girl twins in [name]January[/name], and struggling with girl names. We recently found out our little girl is going to have some health problems, so I really want to find a name and for it to have a good meaning. The boys names we are considering are
[name]Roby[/name] (family name, pronounced like [name]Toby[/name])
[name]Gabriel[/name]
[name]Charles[/name], nn [name]Charlie[/name]
[name]Ford[/name]
[name]Isaac[/name]
[name]Griffin[/name]

We like girls names that are strong, not frilly, and have no problem with unisex names (I have a unisex name and have always loved it). Some of our ideas
[name]Alexandra[/name], nn [name]Alex[/name]
[name]Brooke[/name]
[name]Erin[/name]
[name]Tessa[/name]
[name]Rowan[/name]
[name]Emerson[/name]
[name]Georgia[/name] (I love but dh doesn’t like)

Last name starts with p, 4 syllables and [name]German[/name], so shorter first names are better. Would appreciate any feedback or suggestions!

I like [name]Roby[/name] and [name]Tessa[/name] the best. I also like [name]Roby[/name] and [name]Alexandra[/name], but not if you use [name]Alex[/name] as a nickname, b/c people might assume you have b/b twins! Maybe if you were calling her [name]Ali[/name]/[name]Ally[/name], [name]Roby[/name] and [name]Ali[/name]…that’s cute!

I love the twin set of [name]Isaac[/name] and [name]Tessa[/name].

[name]Roby[/name] and [name]Tessa[/name] is a really cool sibset.

[name]How[/name] about [name]Emery[/name]!!! I love the name and seems a little more girly (but still unisex) than [name]Emerson[/name].

I’m sorry to hear about your daughters health concerns. I’m sure I speak for all berries when I say we really wish you and especially her all the best. That said NAMES…

I think it’s great that you want to give your daughter a strong name with a great meaning to help her easy into life esp with the concerns you must be having. I agree with @ohiom’s concern of a too masculine unisex name coming across as you having two sons. I’d thus stay away [name]Erin[/name], [name]Emerson[/name] or a nn like [name]Alex[/name].

[name]Alexandra[/name] - I know this is maybe a little long for you liking but I think it’s a great name. (Well it’s also mine.) With a meaning that means “helper/defender of man” which just has strength and resilience built right in. [name]How[/name] about [name]Alexa[/name], [name]Lexie[/name], or [name]Ali[/name] as a more feminine nn.
[name]Tessa[/name] - I think this is a great and refreshing choice.
[name]Rowan[/name] - love it. It’s a great nature name.
[name]Asta[/name]/[name]Astra[/name] - “like a star”/“of the stars” might be a great strong and short name for your little ray of light.
[name]Briar[/name] - “a thorny patch” make me think strong and resilient yet wild and beautiful.

[name]Roby[/name] (family name, pronounced like [name]Toby[/name]) - I love that this is a family name.
[name]Charles[/name], nn [name]Charlie[/name] - so classic it never ceases to be a favorite of mine.
[name]Ford[/name] - I like it. It’s strong and clean, and would be easy to pair his sisters name with, regardless of what it is.
[name]Griffin[/name] - see what I wrote about [name]Abel[/name] - it has a similar feel to me.
[name]Alaric[/name] - I think [name]Alaric[/name] could be great with a german name. It also has a great strong meaning to it.
[name]Abel[/name] - is a great classic male name but it’s a little softer than some of your other options if you don’t want to end up with competing strong names. [name]Abel[/name] is capable of holding his own without needing to be competitive.

My favorite combos would be: [name]Alexandra[/name] & [name]Griffin[/name], [name]Rowan[/name] & [name]Alaric[/name], [name]Tessa[/name] & [name]Ford[/name], [name]Asta[/name] & [name]Roby[/name], [name]Briar[/name] & [name]Abel[/name]

For girls, I love [name]Georgia[/name], [name]Alexandria[/name], [name]Brooke[/name], and [name]Rowan[/name]. If your husband doesn’t like [name]Georgia[/name], what about [name]Georgiana[/name], nn [name]Georgia[/name]?

Combinations:
[name]Charles[/name] and [name]Georgia[/name]
[name]Gabriel[/name] and [name]Alexandra[/name]
[name]Isaac[/name] and [name]Rowan[/name]
[name]Charles[/name] and [name]Brooke[/name]

For girls, my favourite is [name]Georgia[/name]; for combos, my favourite is [name]Gabriel[/name] and [name]Alexandra[/name]. I love the name [name]Gabriel[/name] for a boy, but don’t think it would match with any of the girls’ names you’ve suggested except [name]Alexandra[/name].

I absolutely love both [name]Roby[/name] and [name]Tessa[/name]! [name]Tessa[/name] is one of my favs and [name]Roby[/name] is unique without being pretentious. Plus, I am a huge sucker for family names. Prayers to your little precious daughter.

Thanks everyone for the well wishes, prayers, and suggestions! Nice to hear that so many like [name]Roby[/name], and [name]Tessa[/name] is definitely a top contender. Any other names you might suggest to go with [name]Roby[/name]? I really love [name]Rowan[/name] for a girl, but obviously wouldn’t use with [name]Roby[/name]. I like the idea of either [name]Tessa[/name] or [name]Rowan[/name] with [name]Issac[/name] though. Also, love the suggestions of [name]Emery[/name] and [name]Greta[/name], but dh already vetoed both of those. [name]Alaric[/name] is cool but a little too uncommon for us I think. I also really like [name]Briar[/name], but not sure about it since ends in same sound as last name (-er).

Also, what do you think about [name]Evangeline[/name] or [name]Emmanuelle[/name] as a middle? Really love both their meanings, good news or god with us.

I don’t know if you have any specific middle name ideas for boys, but I really really like [name]Tessa[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name] and [name]Roby[/name] [name]Emmanuel[/name]! My favorite pairing is [name]Tessa[/name] and [name]Issac[/name], but [name]Roby[/name] is a super close second and the family connection bumps it into the lead

Roby and Tessa is a lovely, unusual combination.

I think your surname ending in -er is enough of a reason to axe Briar. But honestly, your little girl’s path is thorny enough without such imagery.

I love a delicate, image-rich middle name for Tessa, like Lucienne or pp’s Evangeline. For Roby, you could run the gamut from traditional (William, Charles) to Christmas-related (Joseph, Gabriel) to modern (Paxton, Grayson). Which is your style?

[name]Love[/name] [name]Tessa[/name], but Like [name]Tess[/name] even more! I think it sounds strong and beautiful. The meaning I think, is fitting.

I vote [name]Tessa[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name] and [name]Roby[/name] [name]Christoper[/name]/[name]Ford[/name] [name]Christopher[/name]. (I do like [name]Emmanuel[/name], too, for a boy mn.) [name]Just[/name] a caution, [name]Roby[/name] might be pronounce it like [name]Robbie[/name]. (Not sure if it’s used as a first or last name in your family. I wouldn’t let that deter me from using it, though!)

Thanks everyone. DH and I have narrowed the boys down to [name]Roby[/name], [name]Isaac[/name], or [name]Ford[/name], leaning towards [name]Roby[/name]. [name]Roby[/name] was my husband’s late grandfather’s first name. For middles ones I am considering for [name]Roby[/name] are [name]Everett[/name], Emmettt, [name]James[/name]…open to other suggestions though, maybe I’ll repost in the boys forum. Cant use [name]Isaac[/name] as a middle because initials would be [name]RIP[/name]. I really like [name]Christopher[/name] but has the same ending in -er problem with my last name, doesn’t flow well.
For girls, still really like [name]Tessa[/name] but not 100 percent sold, one concern I have is her initials would be TP. Does anyone have other suggestions that sound good with [name]Roby[/name]? Others I have thought of
[name]Louisa[/name]
[name]Lia[/name]
[name]Lauren[/name]
[name]Samantha[/name]
And still considering [name]Alexandra[/name]. Thanks!

i really like the sound of tessa

I would prefer [name]Lia[/name] or [name]Tessa[/name] with [name]Roby[/name], the others are a little long and normal.
Why is TP bad? I’m not sure I have the same associations as you. It sounds like Tipi/Teepee to me, which I think would be a sweet nickname  We used to travel to [name]England[/name] a bunch of us for a festival and we would camp in a Tipi type tent (‘lavvu’ in Norwegian). We were known as ‘The Norwegians With The Tipi’. TP/Tipi makes me smile ^^

I really like [name]Roby[/name] [name]Emmett[/name].

Another lover of the [name]Tessa[/name] & [name]Roby[/name] combo here! I really wouldn’t worry too much about TP (for dearest’s sake - we sometimes call toilet paper TP in the U.S.). I’m assuming you mean that her first and last initials would be TP? Her middle initial should balance things out

If you like [name]Christopher[/name], what about [name]Kristoff[/name] to go with your [name]German[/name] last name?

If [name]Tessa[/name] won’t fly, I really like [name]Roby[/name] and [name]Clair[/name][e] or [name]Roby[/name] and [name]Brycin[/name]. [name]Roby[/name] comes from [name]Robert[/name] which has ‘bright’ in its meaning as do [name]Clair[/name] and [name]Brycin[/name]. [name]Brycin[/name] is my favorite because it means ‘bright strength’ and kind of reminds of a light shining from within. I think that reflects your desire to give her a meaningful name. I really like [name]Roby[/name] [name]Everett[/name] and [name]Brycin[/name] [name]Lia[/name] [though I like the meaning of [name]Liya[/name] better, especially with the health considerations!]

regal, versatile twinset: [name]Charles[/name] & [name]Alexandra[/name] “[name]Charlie[/name] & [name]Alex[/name]”
popular, classic twinset: [name]Gabriel[/name] & [name]Georgia[/name]
playful, modern twinset: [name]Griffin[/name] & [name]Brooke[/name]
unusual, nature-y twinset: [name]Ford[/name] & [name]Rowan[/name]
unique, unexpected twinset: [name]Roby[/name] & [name]Tessa[/name]

I also love short, strong names- especially unisex! [name]Briar[/name] and [name]Merritt[/name] are my faves…[name]Blythe[/name] is also adorable and has a good meaning.
[name]Roby[/name] would definitely be my pick for a boy, the family significance makes it even better.
My only issue with [name]Tessa[/name] is that I know a few dogs with that name, sorry!
Not sure about the meaning of [name]Brynn[/name], but it is also short and sweet.
