Help with name - going crazy!

Hello everyone. I’m a long time lurker, and just signed up for the purpose of asking for your help. I am adopting my first baby in [name]May[/name]. I am making myself batty with names right now.
I love the name [name]Brynlee[/name]

Now let me explain. I really like the name [name]Brynn[/name]
Birth mom’s first name has “[name]Lee[/name]” in it and I thought it would be a nice way to honor her.
As much as I love [name]Brynlee[/name], is this name to trendy and cutesy? I don’t want a perpetual 5 year old.
Some folks have suggested [name]Brynn[/name] [name]Lee[/name] but I don’t like “[name]Lee[/name]” As a middlename…

Last name is [name]Sharp[/name]
Any help, thoughts, suggestions are greatly appreciated.

[name]Welcome[/name] to Nameberry and congrats on your adoption! Let me say that [name]Brynlee[/name] is trendy and cutesy. I’ve seen it a lot on other websites in numerous spellings (eg. [name]Brinley[/name], Brynlie, Brynley etc…). In fact, many names beginning with “Br” are trendy (eg. [name]Braeden[/name], [name]Braylen[/name], [name]Brylee[/name], [name]Britton[/name] etc…). However, if you love the name then use it. I do like [name]Brynn[/name] [name]Lee[/name] better but I think [name]Brynn[/name] [name]Sharp[/name] is kind of abrupt in sound and [name]Brynlee[/name] [name]Sharp[/name] sounds better. Here are some suggestions for you. I must tell you that most of the names that end in “lee/lie/ley” are pretty trendy at the moment so there’s no getting around it!

[name]Hailey[/name]
[name]Hadley[/name]
[name]Kelsey[/name]
[name]Paisley[/name]
[name]Kylie[/name]
[name]Lacey[/name]
[name]Keeley[/name]
[name]Bailey[/name]
[name]Presley[/name]
[name]Ainsley[/name]
[name]Finley[/name]
[name]Oakley[/name]
[name]Riley[/name]
[name]Berkeley[/name]
[name]Kimberly[/name]
Linley
Amberley

Something different
[name]Ottilie[/name]
[name]Cecily[/name]
[name]Adalie[/name]/[name]Adalee[/name]
[name]Liana[/name]/[name]Leanna[/name]
[name]Rosalie[/name]
[name]Coralie[/name]
[name]Razilee[/name]
Novalee
[name]Laura[/name] [name]Lee[/name]
[name]Jubilee[/name]
[name]Aura[/name] [name]Lee[/name]

I agree with the pp that brynlee is very trendy right now. What about [name]Brenna[/name] with the nn [name]Bren[/name] or [name]Bryn[/name]? [name]Brenna[/name] [name]Lee[/name] sound much better than brynlee or [name]Brynn[/name] lee, [name]IMO[/name]. Have you considered using another name in the middle spot to honor your mom? A middle name or a name that means the same thing as [name]Lee[/name]?

[name]Brynlee[/name] is very trendy and cutesy and sounds quite made-up. If you are trying to name a future adult, this doesn’t make the cut very well. Congratulations on your adoption, very exciting!!

If you are worried about trendy and cutesy, [name]Brynlee[/name] is not the way to go. I would worry that she wouldn’t be taken seriously as an adult. Is there any other way you could honor your mom? Use another part of her first name? Use her middle or maiden name as a middle name? What about using [name]Brynlee[/name] as a middle name, and giving your daughter a more substantial first name?

This is all exactly what I was worried about. I appreciate your honest feedback, thank you. I seem to lean towards A and B names. Unfortunately, I’m just drawn to the trendy names. UGH! When I found out that I was going to be a mommy, my instinct instantly said [name]AVA[/name]. But, as an [name]Amanda[/name]… I spent my entire childhood annoyed that I was one of 10 [name]Amanda[/name]'s in my grade level and [name]Ava[/name] is just so crazy popular right now.
using Birth mom’s middle name wouldn’t work. She’s named after HER mother who left her at the age of 4.
Other names I’m toying with and like

[name]Ava[/name]
[name]Amilia[/name]
[name]Britton[/name]
[name]Layla[/name]
[name]Reese[/name]

ETA: Birth mom also has “ann” in her name, so I could go that route instead of lee. Also, thank you for the congrats

Congratulations on your adoption, my DF and I are looking into adoption as well for the future  I really like [name]Britton[/name] on girls! I think it sounds sporty and cool and sounds like a nice alternative to [name]Brynlee[/name].

I know they say [name]Ava[/name] is popular but I only know 1 and I am teacher so I cannot be that popular. Any name you pick though can have the problem. Last year there were to [name]Ram[/name]'s in my class and those are the only too I have ever had in my whole career LOL

[name]Amilia[/name] is beautiful too! I prefer the [name]Amelia[/name] spelling but to each her own! I love it also for the NN [name]Mia[/name]

Congratulations on your adoption  I love the fact that [name]Brynlee[/name] has so much meaning to you, but if you’re worried about it being overly trendy or cutesy then it’s probably not the best choice. Considering the other names you like, and the meaning behind [name]Lee[/name] and [name]Ann[/name], these came to mind:

[name]Annalise[/name]/[name]Annaliese[/name]/[name]Annalie[/name]/[name]Analie[/name]/any other variants - combines both [name]Ann[/name] and [name]Lee[/name]. [name]Annaliese[/name] is my favourite, while [name]Annalie[/name] seems trendier.
[name]Leanne[/name]/[name]Leanna[/name]/[name]Leandra[/name] - again, combines both [name]Lee[/name] and [name]Ann[/name], but feels a bit more dated to me.
[name]Leighton[/name] - similar to [name]Britton[/name] but also sort of incorporates [name]Lee[/name].
[name]Anwen[/name]/[name]Arianwen[/name] - uses [name]Ann[/name], and feels similar to [name]Bryn[/name] to me because of the Welsh roots.
[name]Anna[/name] - similar to [name]Ava[/name], but maybe to common?
[name]Brianna[/name]/[name]Briana[/name]/[name]Brianne[/name] - this is really quite trendy, but it keeps the Br- start and also uses [name]Ann[/name].

Good luck and I hope this helped!

Thanks! This is a classic case of “[name]Don[/name]'t talk and type at the same time”. I meant to type [name]Alivia[/name], but was speaking out loud to a friend about her choice in [name]Amelia[/name] and typed what I was saying. doh! haha

The name i picked originally was [name]Ava[/name] Laree (pronounced luh-ree). My middle name is [name]Marie[/name] and I always disliked it growing up and felt it was “old”, but I like the way it flows with [name]Ava[/name].

I keep thinking about names I always loved through the years like [name]Samara[/name], and Sorren…
I find this naming a baby thing to be really hard/stressful. I want it to be fun and enjoyable. I guess it’s because I know this is IT. I’m one and done on the kid front and I just want to really fall in love.

Congratulations on your adoption! I always get extraordinary sappy when an adoptive parent comes on the name forums I frequent–I can’t wait until the day that I get to be an adoptive mommy! Good luck with your little girl!

As for your names, yes, [name]Brinley[/name] is extremely trendy and cutesy right now. I know a [name]Brinley[/name] who is just the cutest, but it is quite trendy. What about using [name]Brynn[/name] as the FN, and something longer with the “lee” sound in it as a MN? Something like [name]Brynn[/name] [name]Aurelie[/name]/a, [name]Brynn[/name] [name]Natalie[/name]/a, [name]Brynn[/name] [name]Liliana[/name], etc.?

[name]Layla[/name] and [name]Amelia[/name] (prefer this spelling) are lovely, as well.

If you like “A” and “B” names, what about these?

[name]Ariana[/name]
[name]Abigail[/name] (popular, but not as trendy, imo, since it’s so timeless)
[name]Alice[/name]
[name]Adele[/name]/[name]Adelia[/name]/[name]Ada[/name]/[name]Adelaide[/name]
[name]Aveline[/name]/[name]Avigail[/name]/[name]Aviana[/name]/Avelaine (this way you’d have a more timeless name, and you could still call her [name]Avie[/name]/[name]Ava[/name]…)
[name]Alana[/name]
[name]Alexia[/name]/[name]Alessia[/name]/[name]Alexa[/name]/[name]Alexandra[/name]
[name]Althea[/name]
[name]Amaya[/name]
[name]Anna[/name]/[name]Annabel[/name]/[name]Anneliese[/name]/[name]Anastasia[/name]/[name]Annika[/name]
[name]Arabella[/name]
[name]Audrey[/name]
[name]Aurelia[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name]
[name]Azalea[/name]

[name]Bryony[/name] (I think you could still easily use the nn [name]Brynn[/name] for this, if you like)
[name]Belle[/name]
[name]Beatrix[/name]/[name]Beatrice[/name]
[name]Bethany[/name]/[name]Bethan[/name]
[name]Bridget[/name]

Good luck!

Thanks! I’m really liking [name]Annaliese[/name]! Also, how are you pronouncing [name]Leighton[/name]. I like how it looks…but I seem to be pronouncing it “lay”

lol, that’s awesome. As you probably saw with my signature in my first comment, [name]Olivia[/name] is one of my very favorites, so I of course love the sound of [name]Alivia[/name]! I’m not crazy about the [name]Alivia[/name] spelling, though–I think she’d always have to say “[name]Alivia[/name] with an “A””, and I would think that’d get annoying fast. I’m [name]Ashley[/name], and I absolutely hate it when people spell my name [name]Ashely[/name], lol. Maybe that doesn’t bother you, though. It’s a fine name… I just love [name]Olivia[/name] more, personally.

Good luck with your choice!

You have all been SO great. Thank you again very much for all of the suggestions and help. I have 4 months left to drive myself crazy! [name]Just[/name] hoping to narrow it down and get settled and comfortable with a name soon. [name]Happy[/name] [name]Holiday[/name]'s everyone.

I agree with everyone else and would encourage you to find a lovely name that is not cutesy.

Eg [name]Amelia[/name] [name]Hannah[/name] nn [name]Mia[/name]
I love [name]Ava[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] and I simply loved the actress [name]Ava[/name] [name]Gardner[/name]
and
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Grace[/name] nn of [name]Rory[/name] if you like a boyish nn
[name]Annabelle[/name] [name]Katherine[/name] with this name you get the [name]Anne[/name] factor and the gorgeous nn of [name]Belle[/name] and a lovely classic name to boot.

best wishes

rollo (and please post in our Birth Section when she comes home to you).

Maybe you would like [name]Brynn[/name] or [name]Brinn[/name] (or whichever other spelling) w/ a middle name that contains [name]Lee[/name]. For example:
[name]Aileen[/name]
[name]Alicia[/name]
[name]Lida[/name]
[name]Lita[/name]
[name]Lisa[/name]
[name]Elise[/name]
[name]Arlene[/name]
[name]Ilene[/name]
[name]Ashley[/name]
[name]Helene[/name]
[name]Lina[/name]
[name]Leith[/name]
ect.

That way you could still call her [name]Brynlee[/name] and if it starts to feel too young or trendy to you than you can just switch to [name]Brinn[/name]/[name]Brynn[/name]/[name]Brynne[/name]. Also. congrats and it’s really amazing of you to honor your babies birth mother!!

[name]Rollo[/name] and Taz- Thank you both  I definitely will post on the Birth Section when she comes home! She’s due [name]May[/name] 8th. Until then I will play around here and hope to find the perfect name. Everyone’s suggestions were great. I’ve made a list and I’m going to continue to play around with them. Thanks all!

I don’t like the [name]Brynlee[/name] spelling, but I know a girl named [name]Brindley[/name] who is in college. She doesn’t seem to have a difficult time getting respect. Same sound, but I think the spelling is a little more “professional”

I would go with [name]Brindley[/name]! It’s a name you like, I don’t think it will be a problem.
