I am expecting our fifth child in [name]January[/name], too soon to tell if it is a boy or girl. We are stumped for a little girls name though. Our other children are [name]John[/name], [name]Thomas[/name], [name]Isla[/name] & [name]Freya[/name] (twins). If we have a boy his name will be [name]Edward[/name] ([name]Ted[/name]) after a family member. Our list right now is all over the place. We are considering(in no particular order):
[name]Vesper[/name]
[name]Coraline[/name]
[name]Laurel[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name]
[name]Elin[/name]
[name]Ottilie[/name]
[name]Greta[/name]
[name]Lovely[/name] names! I quite like [name]Vesper[/name] because it makes me think of choral singing (vespers). I’ve always liked [name]Coraline[/name] because of the book, and I think [name]Cora[/name] is a lovely nickname. I think I’m more of a [name]Laura[/name] fan than [name]Laurel[/name]. [name]Hazel[/name] and [name]Elin[/name] are both sweet, pretty and vintage-y. [name]Ottilie[/name] looks lovely - I’m a huge fan of French names - how will you pronounce it? I think [name]Greta[/name] fits in really well with your other names, esp. [name]Isla[/name] and [name]Freya[/name].
Best of luck!
[name]Ottilie[/name] fits best in your sibset, esp with the twins.
I also like [name]Vesper[/name] and [name]Hazel[/name]. [name]Coraline[/name]'s nice, but a bit too long and frilly next to your other children’s names. [name]Greta[/name] sounds a bit harsh in comparison with the soft sounds of [name]Isla[/name] and [name]Freya[/name]. And [name]Laurel[/name] and [name]Elin[/name] are too close to [name]Lauren[/name] and [name]Erin[/name] & [name]Ellen[/name] - which are either out-dated, or a bit drab in comparison with the rest of your sibset.
@tuppence42 - we are planning on pronouncing [name]Ottilie[/name] augh-tuh-lee
I was also wondering if any of you met a child named [name]Vesper[/name] or [name]Coraline[/name] would you think it is tacky because of the associations with pop culture ([name]James[/name] [name]Bond[/name] and the book/movie [name]Coraline[/name]) ?
I’ve always loved [name]Vesper[/name] but it doesn’t really go with your sibset for me. My favorites with your sibset are [name]Greta[/name], [name]Hazel[/name], and [name]Laurel[/name].
I think [name]Greta[/name] is too similar to your other girl’s names. I think [name]Hazel[/name] is easily the best fit with the other siblings. The other names you like feel very different to me…unless that’s what you want!
[name]Vesper[/name] - This is a GP of mine, whilst it’s a lovely name, I don’t think it fits the best with your other children’s names.
[name]Coraline[/name] - [name]Love[/name] this name. It’s a lovely choice. [name]Cora[/name] would be a lovely nickname.
[name]Laurel[/name] - I find this name slightly dated.
[name]Hazel[/name] - [name]Lovely[/name]! My favourite pick from your list as I think it fits with your other childrens names the best.
[name]Elin[/name] - I prefer the [name]Ellen[/name] spelling. I think that this name is still a bit stuffy, but it’s coming back.
[name]Ottilie[/name] - My favourite from your list. A lovely name - especially with the oh-till-ee-a pronounciation.
[name]Greta[/name] - I want to love this name but there’s something stopping me. Still a lovely choice. I would love to meet a little [name]Greta[/name].
J’adour [name]Ottilie[/name] with your other childrens names. It’s eclectic but classic, like [name]Frey[/name] and [name]Isla[/name], and there are some traditional nicknames like [name]Tilly[/name] that you could use.
