We are expecting our second child in [name_u]July[/name_u] 2017 and are trying to come up with a name to go with our first sons name [name_m]Clark[/name_m] (he is 5 years old). We both like the following:
classic names
last names as first names (although) this is not a necessity.
something short (prefer one syllable - but again not necessary)
something that is fairly unique but not weird (i.e., not something made up) - this one is necessary we do not want a common name
Here are some names we are kicking around: [name_m]Heath[/name_m], [name_m]Wells[/name_m], [name_m]Smith[/name_m], [name_m]Archer[/name_m], [name_u]Wallace[/name_u], [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u], [name_u]Dexter[/name_u] (but each of these have their problems - so looking for some further inspiration)
Really like [name_u]Reid[/name_u], [name_m]Grant[/name_m], [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] and [name_m]Nash[/name_m] - but for various reasons all have been eliminated.
I like [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] - but worry about how popular [name_u]Reese[/name_u] is for Girls …
[name_m]Heath[/name_m] is by far my favorite from your list with [name_m]Clark[/name_m].
Some ideas:
[name_m]Wayne[/name_m]
[name_m]Rhett[/name_m]
[name_u]Blake[/name_u]
[name_u]Bryce[/name_u]
[name_m]Zane[/name_m]
[name_u]Tate[/name_u]
[name_u]Quinn[/name_u]
[name_m]Pike[/name_m]
[name_m]Vaughn[/name_m]
[name_m]Fletcher[/name_m]
[name_m]Thane[/name_m]
Our main concerns with [name_m]Heath[/name_m] are two fold:
(1) does it sound too much like [name_m]Keith[/name_m]/is it too hard to pronounce - i.e., will he be constantly correcting people who hear [name_m]Keith[/name_m] and saying no my name is “[name_m]Heath[/name_m]”
(2) is it too much chocolate bar? (i.e., [name_m]Clark[/name_m] [name_u]Bar[/name_u] and [name_m]Heath[/name_m] [name_u]Bar[/name_u])
The main concern is #1 above, and #2 is just a weird coincidence.
From your list, I really like [name_m]Wells[/name_m]. I like [name_m]Heath[/name_m] individually, but with [name_m]Clark[/name_m] it’s wayyy too much chocolate bar for me.
[name_m]Hi[/name_m] my son is [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] and I was worried about the girl association as well, but he is 4 now and I love the name so glad we named him [name_u]Rhys[/name_u]!
I think we going to add [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] to the list and possible [name_m]Drake[/name_m] and [name_u]Dean[/name_u] as well.
Regarding [name_u]Dean[/name_u] - is it too much Superman with a kid named [name_m]Clark[/name_m] to also have [name_u]Dean[/name_u] (i.e., [name_u]Dean[/name_u] [name_m]Cain[/name_m] who played Superman?)
Regarding [name_m]Heath[/name_m] - see my earlier post, but is it to close to [name_m]Keith[/name_m]/will people constantly hear [name_m]Keith[/name_m] when we are saying [name_m]Heath[/name_m] (that is my main concern with this name i.e., that to my ear it seems hard to pronounce distinctly from [name_m]Keith[/name_m])
Regarding [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] - to people in [name_u]North[/name_u] [name_u]America[/name_u] is it too girly?
I don’t think [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] is too girly since it has its own masculine spelling. I know a couple male Rhyses in the US. I don’t think the [name_m]Heath[/name_m]/[name_m]Keith[/name_m] thing is a huge problem since [name_m]Keith[/name_m] isn’t that popular anymore. I also like [name_m]Archer[/name_m] and [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] from your list.
Regarding [name_m]Heath[/name_m] sounding like [name_m]Keith[/name_m]…it can be an issue. My husband’s name is [name_m]Heath[/name_m] and it is often misheard as [name_m]Keith[/name_m] and we both find ourselves saying, “[name_m]Heath[/name_m], with an H” a lot when someone is hearing it for the first time. Also, the “H” sound is harder to make loudly (if that makes sense). Picture yourself saying, “[name_m]Heath[/name_m]” in a loud bar or calling it across the playground. You have to be a bit more deliberate in making the “H” sound. However, I still love the name! And once people hear it they usually don’t forget it!
Also, I’ve never heard of a [name_m]Clark[/name_m] bar so I don’t get that association. My husband gets called [name_m]Heath[/name_m] [name_u]Bar[/name_u] on occasion but it’s not a big deal.
Good luck to you! [name_m]Clark[/name_m] is a great name and I’m sure you’ll find the perfect name for his brother!
Below are my favorite one syllable (mostly) names that I think sound good with [name_m]Clark[/name_m] and are uncommon. I also like [name_u]Beck[/name_u], [name_m]Kirk[/name_m] and [name_u]Puck[/name_u], but I’m personally not sure about the shared ending with [name_m]Clark[/name_m], it might be too much. [name_m]Boone[/name_m] is probably my overall favorite. [name_m]Clark[/name_m] and [name_m]Boone[/name_m]
When I see [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] I think [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] [name_m]Davies[/name_m], the male actor. When I see [name_u]Reese[/name_u], I think of a girl.
