[name]Hi[/name]! I’ve been lurking here for a few weeks, looking for inspiration… but need some help! We’re expecting baby in a few weeks and still feeling very uncertain of names! We don’t know the gender, so that’s making it tougher. Here are some of the girl names we agree on (for the most part):
[name]Sadie[/name] (is it too nickname-y as fn?)
[name]Violet[/name] (too trendy/popular?)
[name]Francesca[/name] (too much of a mouthful? nn [name]Frankie[/name]?)
[name]Phoebe[/name] (though DH can’t get past Friends)
[name]Beatrice[/name]
[name]Eden[/name]
I’d love to hear your thoughts and other suggestions! Thanks!
[name]Sadie[/name] - I honestly do think this is too nickname-y to be a first name.
[name]Violet[/name] - it is trendy, but outside of the top 100 for now. I still like it and would use it!
[name]Francesca[/name] - not my style, but a beautiful name!
[name]Phoebe[/name] - [name]Love[/name] this
[name]Beatrice[/name] - Sorry, but this really not my style. It reads as “old lady” to me - not classic, vintage or traditional… just old.
[name]Eden[/name] - Again, not my style. Seems too trendy that it will brand a kid as forever from this generation.
[name]Violet[/name], [name]Francesca[/name] and [name]Phoebe[/name] are my favorites of your group. I think [name]Violet[/name] [name]Francesca[/name], [name]Violet[/name] [name]Sadie[/name] or [name]Violet[/name] [name]Phoebe[/name] would work, actually. [name]Francesca[/name] [name]Violet[/name] and [name]Phoebe[/name] [name]Violet[/name] are also very pretty combinations, [name]IMO[/name].
I love [name]Sadie[/name], and I think it certainly has potential to stand on its own. It is supposed to be a nn for [name]Sarah[/name]… but, it has the same syllables, and is not simpler to pronounce. I call fowl. Let [name]Sadie[/name] be its own name!
I love [name]Francesca[/name] and [name]Beatrice[/name]. They’re both lovely and beautiful but with spunky nicknames ([name]Frankie[/name] and [name]Bea[/name]). However, I prefer the nickname Chessa/Cessa for Frencesca and I prefer [name]Beatrix[/name] with the nickname [name]Trixie[/name]
Thanks for the suggestions. I love [name]Lydia[/name] and [name]Juliet[/name]/[name]Julia[/name]! also love [name]Ivy[/name] but worry that isn’t ‘substantial’ enough as a fn…
[name]Sadie[/name]: I love this name and think it is fine as a stand-alone name. It is a diminutive of [name]Sarah[/name] the same way [name]Eliza[/name] is a diminutive of [name]Elizabeth[/name], and it doesn’t have to be a nickname. I wouldn’t worry about any animal associations, either.
[name]Violet[/name]: It might be trendy among Nameberries, but not among the general population (depending on your definition of trendy–for me, if it’s not in the top 100, it’s not trendy). I think it stands a good chance to continue growing in popularity, but it’s a lovely name.
[name]Francesca[/name]: Part of me likes it, but when I think of it on a little girl, it seems like a fussy, overly princess-y name…but [name]Frankie[/name] is a really cute nickname.
[name]Phoebe[/name]: I like it.
[name]Beatrice[/name]: Yes! [name]Love[/name] it. I might be one of the only berries who doesn’t prefer [name]Beatrix[/name].
[name]Sadie[/name]- I’ve heard it as a fullname…kind of cute, but I prefer [name]Sally[/name] or even [name]Sunny[/name]
[name]Violet[/name]- very pretty, somewhat popular…you could look up it’s popularity in your area
[name]Francesca[/name]- [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Frankie[/name], find [name]Francesca[/name] too over-the-top long & girly
[name]Phoebe[/name]- really cute! Maybe [name]Daphne[/name] if you keep thinking of Friends!
[name]Beatrice[/name]- [name]Love[/name] this, one of my favorites!!!
[name]Eden[/name]- This reminds me of Toddlers and Tiaras now cause of [name]Eden[/name] [name]Wood[/name].
[name]Beatrice[/name] & [name]Phoebe[/name] are my favorites.
[name]Sadie[/name] - I think it’s very spunky and has comeback potential seeing that [name]Sophie[/name]/[name]Sophia[/name] and [name]Sylvia[/name] are back.
[name]Violet[/name] - Very pretty, but is sure to become more popular (may not be a bad thing).
[name]Francesca[/name] -
[name]Phoebe[/name] - I love this name. Maybe try changing your DH’s mind by renting [name]Phoebe[/name] in Wonderland (great movie) so he has a new association and can see that it is wearable name on a younger child.
[name]Beatrice[/name] - [name]Bea[/name] is adorable for a nn! Which is nice because just [name]Beatrice[/name] seems a little stiff to me, but I love [name]Bea[/name].
[name]Eden[/name] - I, too, associate this name with [name]Eden[/name] [name]Wood[/name]. I think it’s really nice in the middle though.
[name]Sadie[/name] and [name]Phoebe[/name] are my favorites.
[name]Sadie[/name] - not a big fan of this really, I’m also seeing those words in it which is a bit off-putting
[name]Violet[/name] - lovely pretty name but depends how much it would bother you on the popularity score? I want to like it - but my main problem with it is that it’s only one letter away from violent :S
[name]Francesca[/name] - love this, is our 2nd daughters name! We shorten it to Chesca though, I don’t really like [name]Frankie[/name] much, I did try to call her [name]Francie[/name] ([name]Fran[/name]-cee) for a few months and while very cute and I had most of the family calling her that, dh decided he much preferred Chesca and that is the one that has stuck. I really like that now
[name]Phoebe[/name] - love this too, and I think the Friends connection becomes less and less of an issue the longer we go from it having been ‘current’? Some will always associate with Friends but how many of the next generation will be that bothered?
[name]Beatrice[/name] - I like this, sweet on a little girl and suitable for a grown woman too. Is quite vintage and regal but I like that
[name]Eden[/name] - pretty, maybe the most ‘modern’ on this list
