We are expecting our first child together, most likely to be our last too. We have teen sons from previous relationships. Earlier on the pregnancy we decided to keep the baby’s sex a delivery surprise and so far we’ve been very good at fighting temptation. This is partly why we are on the fence about our naming options, because we are considering names for both sexes.
If we have a son we are almost certain we will name him [name_u]August[/name_u]. We are lost on the middle name department and would be happy to take some suggestions. Our options for male middle names are [name_m]Rodney[/name_m], [name_u]Shane[/name_u] and [name_u]Micah[/name_u] (family names). What do you think? He is rooting for [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Rodney[/name_m]. I am partial towards [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_u]Micah[/name_u].
Our girl name list is a bit more complex and already feels contrived. If we have a daughter, she will be the first female grandchild for both families. His family has 3 boys, mine has 9. [name_m]Both[/name_m] grandmothers are clamoring for a bit of pink and deep down I am too. What our mothers do not know is that we want to incorporate their names into our child’s name if she turns out to be a she.
His mother’s name is [name_f]Frances[/name_f]. My mother’s name is [name_f]Felicia[/name_f]. Since we are not crazy in love with their names as they are, initially we thought we could either use [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] (instead of [name_f]Frances[/name_f]) or [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] (instead of [name_f]Felicia[/name_f]). [name_f]One[/name_f] or the other as a first name would be right up our alley. We truly love those names.
Then someone suggested using both names, either [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] or [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Francesca[/name_f]. He is on the fence about alliterative names but I do not mind it.
At this point we feel like we have too many ideas going on for a girl and very much lost for a boy’s middle name. What are your thoughts?
As far as the girl name, if you’re going to use both names, I think [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] flows a lot more nicely like [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f]. [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] is a beautiful name and that would have my vote.
Some names that I think are nice as a middle name for [name_u]August[/name_u]:
[name_u]August[/name_u] [name_u]Micah[/name_u] seems like the perfect option to me, if you can get your husband on board lol. Otherwise I’d suggest [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_u]Jude[/name_u] or [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_u]Seth[/name_u].
As for your little girl ideas, I don’t think the alliteration matters if you both love both names.
So, [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] would be my pick for a daughter.
My second option would be to pick a girls name you love and use [name_f]Francesca[/name_f], which is stunning, as the sole middle name:
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Francesca[/name_f], for example
Or even ([name_f]Nora[/name_f]) [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Francesca[/name_f], if you wouldn’t mind a longer name!
If he wants [name_m]Rodney[/name_m] and you want [name_u]Micah[/name_u], maybe you should compromise with [name_u]Shane[/name_u]! I think [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_u]Shane[/name_u] sounds a bit better than [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_u]Micah[/name_u]. Those last two names are just so different in style & origin to me. But it’s still a nice name.
Since you are considering alternate versions/similar names for the females you want to honor, could you consider that with the males? Example, [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Royden[/name_m] (anagram of [name_m]Rodney[/name_m]), [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Makai[/name_m] (variation of [name_u]Micah[/name_u]/[name_m]Michael[/name_m], so identical meaning), [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Ian[/name_m] (variation of [name_u]Shane[/name_u]/[name_m]John[/name_m], so identical meaning).
I think [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] is cute. [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] is a bit of a mouthful. You might also consider:
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] Frania (FRAWN-yuh, a variation of [name_f]Frances[/name_f])
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Franka[/name_f] (FRAWNK-uh, like the actress [name_f]Franka[/name_f] Pontente)
Alliterative names are fine (as long as it’s not the first and surnames). I adore either [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] or [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]!
I like [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Francine[/name_f], that is adorable.
As for [name_u]August[/name_u], are there any versions of those names that you would consider?
I think [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_u]Shane[/name_u] sounds so handsome! Also, [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Francine[/name_f] is amazing! Unless you are of hispanic or italian origin, [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] just soo ethnic. Reminds me of a flamanco dancer… :0
If it were me, I’d go with [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Francesca[/name_f]. It’s very pretty, the flow is great. It’s a fabulous choice
[name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Rodney[/name_m] has that double -aw- sound that I find unpleasant.
Between [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_u]Micah[/name_u] and [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_u]Shane[/name_u], I’d probably pick [name_u]Micah[/name_u] just to avoid the back to back S sound, but it’s not too bad, so I really could go either way. The flow with [name_u]Shane[/name_u] is slightly better because it’s only 1 syllable.
I think I would base the decision on your surname. Does either set of initials spelling anything? ASS, ASK, ASP, ASO? [name_f]AMI[/name_f], [name_f]AMY[/name_f], AMO, AMP?
I’ll throw in for [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_u]Micah[/name_u], purely because of the appealing sound. I also like [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Felix[/name_m].
[name_m]How[/name_m] would [name_f]Elisa[/name_f] or [name_f]Alicia[/name_f] sound to you as a way to [name_f]Honor[/name_f] [name_f]Felicia[/name_f] or maybe another name meaning happy like [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] or [name_f]Ilaria[/name_f]? Personally, [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] or [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] [name_f]Ilaria[/name_f] both have a lot of appeal to me.
Great choices! My vote would definately go to [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_u]Shane[/name_u] and [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Francine[/name_f]. There’s just something about them. [name_m]Both[/name_m] are the perfect flow and sound kind to the ear.
