I’ve always adored the name [name_u]Rory[/name_u] ([name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_m]Gilmore[/name_m] Girls), but I can’t find a name besides [name_f]Lorelai[/name_f] and [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] to make it a nickname I would want a daughter to have a first name to derive it from rather than just naming her [name_u]Rory[/name_u].
I’m not a fan of [name_f]Lorelai[/name_f], it’s not my style, and [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] is just too Sleeping Beauty for my taste
Help suggest names?? I’m pretty open to ideas. As you can see by my signature I’m all over the place, lmao
I can think of maybe two that could be a small stretch:
[name_f]Lorraine[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]
[name_u]Rory[/name_u] could really be a name on its own, though. I think it sounds complete enough to be its own name and will have a beautiful sound to it. I do agree that [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], although beautiful, reminds me strongly of Sleeping Beauty…or [name_f]Willow[/name_f]!
My cousin is just simply named [name_f]Rorie[/name_f], but I understand just wanting a name to go by! Here’s a little list! (Some might be a bit out there haha)
[name_f]Laura[/name_f]
[name_f]Rora[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Noor[/name_f]
[name_f]Medora[/name_f]
[name_f]Aerionna[/name_f]
[name_f]Alloura[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleanore[/name_f]
hope this helps!
I love [name_u]Rory[/name_u] so much! I think it works on its own just fine, but I see the appeal of a first name too. [name_m]How[/name_m] do you feel about [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f]?
Other suggestions:
[name_f]Victoria[/name_f]
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_f]Gloria[/name_f]
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u]
Like any of these? Good luck!
The only one I sort of like as a full name is [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f]. [name_f]Romilly[/name_f] is the only other one I can think of, and I don’t love that either. I would go with just [name_u]Rory[/name_u] and would probably pair it with a feminine, non unisex, more formal sounding name. I like [name_u]Rory[/name_u] on its own much better than any names that make sense to derive it from!
[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]/[name_f]Dorothea[/name_f]
[name_f]Theadora[/name_f]
[name_u]Monroe[/name_u]
[name_u]Marlowe[/name_u]
Harlowe
[name_f]Rowena[/name_f] ([name_f]RO[/name_f]-wenn-uh)
Rowenna (ro-WENN-uh)
[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f]. [name_u]Romy[/name_u] might be more commonly used but definitely [name_u]Rory[/name_u] works too…first and last 2 letters.
I see [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] in your signature; perhaps [name_u]Rory[/name_u] could be a nickname for a [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]?
Thanks, guys! I never thought of pulling [name_u]Rory[/name_u] from [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] but I like the idea. I also looove [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] I may just pair [name_u]Rory[/name_u] with a longer, feminine middle name
[name_f]Ouranie[/name_f] perhaps?
You can always accentuate the “Roryness” of [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] (or any [name_f]Ro[/name_f]- name) through careful choice of middle name. For example, names like [name_f]Reanna[/name_f], [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f], [name_f]Regina[/name_f], etc. would give you [name_u]ROwan[/name_u] [name_f]REbecca[/name_f] =>RoRe =>[name_u]Rory[/name_u]. You would have to be okay with the alliteration, of course, and finding two names that you like that fit the pattern may prove difficult. But it’s another way of deriving it if you can pull it off.
