I am struggling to come up with a name for baby number three (unsure of gender).
We are Australians and do not want American names. We chose very English/Victorian names for our first two. [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] is a favourite [name_u]Austen[/name_u] character (sense and sensibility) and [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] is another favourite character Lady [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] from Wives and Daughters (and we often call her Lady [name_f]Harriet[/name_f]). We love the both names are old fashioned, spelt correctly, and pretty.
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u] (The middle name is my grandmother and the first name plays on the other grandmothers name).
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_u]Lee[/name_u] (The middle name is mine)
For a boy we think:
[name_m]Peter[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m] (grandfather and father).
For a girl perhaps:
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f]
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] (My husband loves the nickname [name_f]Molly[/name_f]… because he likes [name_f]Molly[/name_f] from Wives and Daughters… lol).
[name_f]Blanche[/name_f] (a great-aunt)
I would love to gather some suggestions. Perhaps a name I have overlooked. No need for middle names, as I like to use family names for middle names.
Hello, I love your name style and also your use of family names in the middle, I think its the perfect way to honour.
Your three girl name suggestions would all sound great in your sibset but my favourite is [name_f]Blanche[/name_f]. I haven’t heard it in a while and it is lovely. Other ideas for a sister, [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] and;
[name_f]Martha[/name_f]
[name_f]Beryl[/name_f]
[name_f]Agnes[/name_f]
[name_f]Rebekah[/name_f] (love this spelling)
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
[name_f]Meryl[/name_f] (love the nn [name_f]Merry[/name_f])
[name_f]Blythe[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f]
[name_f]Susannah[/name_f]
[name_f]Edeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Nancy[/name_f]
[name_f]Rowena[/name_f]
[name_f]Thomasina[/name_f]
I absolutely adore [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] and [name_f]Mary[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] sounds great with [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] and [name_f]Harriet[/name_f]!
Thanks for the time guys. I am compiling a little shortlist.
Thanks for the vote of confidence about [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], for some reason it seems too boring… But then when we named [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] it was a week before we used the name because, even though we chose it, it still took some time to love it.
Loving:
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f] (If I had called [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] “[name_f]Maryanne[/name_f]” instead then I would have the Dashwood sisters).
[name_f]Mary[/name_f]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Edith[/name_f] (a favourite of mine)
[name_f]Blanche[/name_f] ([name_m]Will[/name_m] very possible wind up the middle name).
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] (very Australian)
[name_f]Maeve[/name_f] (so lovely)
[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] ([name_f]Rosy[/name_f] or [name_f]Molly[/name_f] would be great nicknames)
[name_f]Agnes[/name_f] (My great-aunt [name_f]Blanche[/name_f] calls me “[name_f]Aggie[/name_f]” - Short for “[name_f]Aggie[/name_f] Dribble Drawers” a moniker I earned as a toddler).
[name_f]Rebecca[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] (A bit too common lately)
[name_f]Blythe[/name_f] (interesting and I like it)
Your daughters have lovely names and I like that they are named after book characters! All of the names in your shortlist above work well with [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] and [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] so you really cannot go wrong. My personal favorites from your list are [name_f]Alice[/name_f], [name_f]Edith[/name_f], and [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f]. I would probably move [name_f]Blanch[/name_f], [name_f]Maeve[/name_f], and [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] into the mn position.
Some other possibilities:
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], and
To join such delightfully named literary siblings, I like [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] and [name_f]Blanche[/name_f] from your list. Other names I would offer are:
Adding:
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] ([name_u]Jo[/name_u])
[name_f]Millicent[/name_f] ([name_f]Milly[/name_f])
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
[name_f]Georgiana[/name_f] (I have a cousin called [name_f]Georgina[/name_f], and I love all my cousins names)
[name_f]Irene[/name_f]
[name_f]Jane[/name_f] (!!!)
[name_f]Lucinda[/name_f]
I have a niece named [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] and I think that combination would be great with your sibset. Alternatively, [name_f]Lucinda[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is a favorite combination of mine.
