Help with spelling

Hello! I have always loved the name [name_f]Adela[/name_f] (pronounced uh-[name_u]DAY[/name_u]-luh) but I’m concerned people may pronounce it uh-[name_u]DELL[/name_u]-uh. Any suggestions on spelling to avoid this? Thank you !!

I pronounce [name_f]Adela[/name_f] as uh-[name_u]DELL[/name_u]-uh.

Adayla?
Adaila?
Adeila?
Adeyla?

I have only ever heard [name_f]Adela[/name_f] pronounced in the way you prefer. I would stick with the [name_f]Adela[/name_f] spelling and clarify as needed.

I’ve gotta say when I first saw [name_f]Adela[/name_f] written down I read it as “[name_m]Ah[/name_m]-[name_u]DELL[/name_u]-uh”. If you don’t mind correcting people that’s fine! But this post suggests you’d like to avoid that.

My first thought was you could put an accent on the e, like [name_m]Ad[/name_m]éla. If you don’t want to do that, I really like the spelling Adeila, which definitely wouldn’t get confused as it looks like [name_f]Leila[/name_f]

I wanted to say uh-dell-uh too.

For the way you pronounce it, I’d expect to see an accent, [name_m]Ad[/name_m]éla. I can see why that may be a bit fussy though.

I like the suggestion of Adeila, I would pronounce this how you said it although I disagree with above poster, I’ve heard [name_f]Leila[/name_f] be pronounced [name_f]Leela[/name_f] so potentially Adeila could become Adeela (although I personally don’t think it looks that way at all.)

Huh, I’ve never heard that before! Gosh, pronunciation is a tough one  I’d still stick with either [name_m]Ad[/name_m]éla or Adeila though.

I like the suggestion of [name_m]Ad[/name_m]éla.

I pronounce [name_f]Adela[/name_f]–A-dell-ah–emphasis on the first syllable and the a sound as in cat.

I would spell it Adeyla or Adayla.

I automatically thought uh-dell-uh also, but I love the sound of the way you pronounce it. I think I still prefer the [name_f]Adela[/name_f] spelling, you’d just have to be okay having to correct people most of the time. Adding an accent would clarify things, but I think it could also make paperwork more complicated and it would often be left off. The other option I like is Adeila. The letter “y” in the middle of names can look a bit more crowded in my opinion.

I would pronounce [name_f]Adela[/name_f] “uh-[name_u]DELL[/name_u]-uh”

For your preferred pronunciation, my first thought was Adeila, though Adaila might be clearer.
