(This is sort of the blurb but with more detail.)
[name_m]Joe[/name_m] Plunkett is the singer-lyricist for a band which is trying to bring back the sounds of the Glorious 1980s. He’s pretty happy with his girlfriend [name_f]Madeline[/name_f], who isn’t really interested in music at all and slightly bored with [name_m]Joe[/name_m] and his band.
He starts dreaming about a girl whom he can’t remember seeing in real life; he’s not sure if she’s real or just a dream, or maybe someone he saw in one of the many 80s music videos he’s watched, meaning she would now be in her 40s, 50s. His band made a music video for which Joe wasn’t present, then he watches it and sees the girl in the background. BUT I NEED TO FIGURE OUT [name_m]HOW[/name_m] THEY MEET and I’d like it to be a very crazy, unpredictable way of meeting.
Thanks in advance!

Oh, and I’m not sure about the name Grace. I haven’t really worked out her character so I can’t put anything like that down, but she has curly light-ish brown hair and hazel or brown eyes. I know that’s probably not helpful–I’d like a name that’s classy and goes with her surname, nothing creative or very trendy. I’m considering:
Gemma–Orla–Marigold–Genevieve–Winifred nn Winnie–

They are all in their early twenties and this is set in present day.

I don’t know why, but I’ve always wanted to read a book where the characters meet by one of them parachuting into the other persons backyard: they live near the beach and they aimed wrong, hence ending up in their backyard. I don’t know, I’m odd :). That probably didn’t help at all.

Or maybe the girlfriend could organise for a band to come and play at his birthday party, and she is one of the band members, or a fill in?

[name_m]How[/name_m] old are these characters?

They’re in their early twenties–story is present day.

Maybe the girl (woman) is [name_f]Madeline[/name_f]'s aunt in town for a visit?

Oh my goodness, [name_f]Fiona[/name_f], it’s sort of creapy, because I had a story I was working on a while ago that had the plot semi-similar to this! [name_f]My[/name_f] guy was a singer in a rampantly popular band, happily involved with his girlfriend, but then he started having these dreams about this girl, and he ended up breaking it off with his girlfriend because he couldn’t get dream-girl out of his mind. He was walking down the street near D. C. one day, getting a bite to eat for lunch, when he sees dream-girl walking into a shop just down the street and his mind is utterly blown because he didn’t think she was real, haha. [name_m]Feel[/name_m] free to take the idea if you like; I know I’ll never finish it because it was created in my minor (okay, probably more than minor) obsession with [name_m]Louis[/name_m] [name_m]Tomlinson[/name_m], and it just felt too much like fanfiction, and I’m done with fanfiction, haha. It just struck me as really similar when I read your story. I still love the idea of somebody falling in love with someone else via a dream, though, and then realizing that this person they met in their dream is not only real, but he has a shot with her. Sort of adorable and yet really crazy.

I think he should be filming a video for his band (maybe in a bar?) and she works in the place he is filming. That way you have a reason to keep throwing the characters together even if one of them resists the impulse to see the other.

Thanks everyone! I think I almost have it figured out! (Ideas are still welcome though.)

[name_m]How[/name_m] about these ideas:

  • Saw the girl at a random concert/performance
  • The girl was a fan of his band

Crazy ideas:

  • They were both queuing up for a ticket for a concert and were both fighting for the last ticket xD
  • She moved in next door/upstairs/downstairs and complained when he was too loud singing/playing instruments and they met at his doorstep

I tried c:

Not quite sure what I’m doing now–any more suggestions?

[name_m]Joe[/name_m]‘s Band member [name_m]Paul[/name_m] Sneed has a cousin “[name_f]Tessa[/name_f]” [name_u]Carter[/name_u] who is their fan groupie. "[name_f]Tessa[/name_f]’ invites all the Band members over to a bar that her best friend [name_f]Shanna[/name_f] O’[name_u]Dell[/name_u] who is the waitress. [name_m]Joe[/name_m] can’t believe he is the girl in her dreams.

Try switching [name_f]Grace[/name_f] out For [name_f]Maci[/name_f]

Thanks prairiekeeper, I’m considering that.
