I’m having twin boys and we have decided on the name [name_m]Roland[/name_m] (love that it isn’t common, like the origin, nickname [name_m]Rollo[/name_m]) for one of them, but we’re having the hardest time deciding on the other! I’d like opinions on names from our short list. Middle name will be [name_m]Troy[/name_m].
[name_m]Calvin[/name_m]-not too trendy/common, two syllables, don’t like the nickname [name_u]Cal[/name_u]
[name_m]Oliver[/name_m]-love the nickname [name_u]Ollie[/name_u] with [name_m]Rollo[/name_m], fear it is too popular
[name_m]Henry[/name_m]-like the meaning & origin, also think it may be too trendy

Well my kids are quite old now, but all told we’ve known lots and lots of boy [name_m]Henry[/name_m]'s and [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]'s. And with twins, since [name_m]Roland[/name_m] is kind of rare (I love it!) I would definitely opt for something less expected. [name_m]Calvin[/name_m] is a nice choice but so very [name_m]Hobbes[/name_m] to me…I actually prefer [name_m]Hobbes[/name_m]! Maybe [name_m]Hobart[/name_m], nn [name_m]Hobie[/name_m] or [name_m]Hobbes[/name_m]? [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] is really great, that would be my first choice. The only downside is I don’t love the nn [name_f]Attie[/name_f] (so many girls named [name_f]Addie[/name_f]!). Nothing else really comes to mind as a nn either. Maybe [name_m]Archer[/name_m] instead? [name_m]Archie[/name_m] and [name_m]Rollo[/name_m] are cute! I also like [name_u]August[/name_u], nn [name_u]Gus[/name_u]. [name_m]Rollo[/name_m] and [name_u]Gus[/name_u] sound great! Maybe [name_m]Caius[/name_m]? [name_m]Grantham[/name_m]? Something else English and dashing…[name_m]Hewitt[/name_m]? [name_m]Winston[/name_m]? [name_m]Walter[/name_m]? [name_u]Auden[/name_u]? [name_m]Neville[/name_m]? [name_m]Clive[/name_m]? [name_m]Dashiell[/name_m]? ([name_m]Rollo[/name_m] and [name_u]Dash[/name_u] is really cute!) Tough choice! Of your choices I like [name_m]Roland[/name_m] and [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] the best ([name_m]Rollo[/name_m] and [name_u]Ollie[/name_u] is adorable!) Usually I’d prefer names with similar popularity, but something about [name_m]Roland[/name_m] and [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] seems to balance well. [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] would be my second choice, but while it’s a classic name the TKAM association makes it a little trendy ([name_m]Oliver[/name_m] feels more timelessly popular to me, which eases the popularity concern a bit).
I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] mousehouse’s suggestion of [name_u]August[/name_u]. That would definitely be #1 for me. It doesn’t get much cuter than [name_u]Gus[/name_u]. I also quite like [name_m]Dashiell[/name_m]. It’s not as classic as some of the other choices, but there’s a [name_m]French[/name_m]-y vibe to [name_m]Roland[/name_m] and [name_m]Dashiell[/name_m] that’s appealing (and [name_u]Dash[/name_u] is almost as cute as [name_u]Gus[/name_u]!)

I’m not so sure on the nn “[name_f]Attie[/name_f]” though! Too similar to the female “[name_f]Addie[/name_f]” or even “[name_f]Hattie[/name_f]”! A different nn could be [name_u]Kit[/name_u]??
I honestly think [name_m]Rollo[/name_m] and [name_u]Ollie[/name_u] are way too similar. What if when you just shorten it around the house to call them you end up just yelling “Rol” and “[name_m]Ol[/name_m]”! (Which is bound to happen here and there)…I feel like that would be so confusing!!
[name_m]Atticus[/name_m] is my other favorite but I don’t think it goes well with [name_m]Roland[/name_m].
[name_m]Roland[/name_m] and [name_m]Calvin[/name_m] are the nicest set. I think they have a similar style and sound really good together. I think that [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] and [name_m]Henry[/name_m] are too popular to go with the uncommon [name_m]Roland[/name_m].
