Which do you prefer, [name]Imogen[/name] or [name]Imogene[/name]? Which sounds better? How do you pronounce them with the spellings? Could you spell [name]Imogene[/name] a different way without looking silly or should it be left as it is?
I prefer the sound of [name]Imogen[/name] as I pronounce the two differently, also I like the possible nickname [name]Gene[/name] which you could get from [name]Imogene[/name], I just don’t think it sounds quite right. I don’t think you could spell [name]Imogene[/name] any differently to get the same pronunciation
[name]Imogen[/name] - IM-ə-jən
[name]Imogene[/name] - IM-ə-jeen
ə indicates the neutral vowel sound, as in about.
I prefer [name]Imogen[/name] in sound. You could probably spell [name]Imogene[/name] as Imogeen or [name]Imogine[/name] (though people might pronounce this like the ine in [name]Caroline[/name]) but I prefer the original spelling.
[name]Imogen[/name] is better. (Im-O-jin).
[name]Gene[/name] to me is a rather unattractive sound to have in a name.
I definitely prefer [name]Imogen[/name]. It has a much lighter, more pleasant sound and seems more feminine.
I prefer [name]Imogen[/name], though I do quite like [name]Imogene[/name]. [name]Imogen[/name] I pronounce with the [name]JEN[/name] sound at the end (though the E is very short, so it sounds more like the G and the N just run into each other) and [name]Imogene[/name] I pronounce with the JEEN sound. I’ve heard people say that [name]Imogene[/name] sounds more country bumpkin to them, so I now have that association with the name and prefer [name]Imogen[/name] because of it. However, [name]Imogen[/name] is fairly popular (top 100) in my country, so I don’t think I would use it here (Australia).
[name]Imogen[/name] sounds nicer (ih-[name]MO[/name]-jen) than [name]Imogene[/name] to me (ih-moh-JEEN). I think spelling [name]Imogene[/name] in another way like [name]Imojean[/name] would look strange, though you could call her [name]Gene[/name] and spell that [name]Jean[/name].
I actually like both. I would personally only use [name]Imogene[/name] (which is actually in my top ten) because [name]Gene[/name] honors family on both sides and even if I wanted to use [name]Imogen[/name], everyone would still pronounce it [name]Imogene[/name] where I live.
I like [name]Imogen[/name], I don’t love [name]Imogene[/name] - the gene sound is not very attractive to me.
