Help with unusual, non-frilly girl names

I love Zinna (and a lot of other flower names), and I’m still working on my husband. I hadn’t read that book, though. I have a small herd of dairy goats, and they almost always have flower or plant names, but some I saved for humans!

Thanks for the list. I really like [name]Linnet[/name] and [name]Paloma[/name]. My dh brought up the name Avocet. I’m warming to it.

Middle name will probably be [name]Katherine[/name] or [name]Mary[/name], so no worries there.

They are indeed. I have a very small herd (six in all) of dairy goats, a mix of La Manchas and Oberhaslis. My senior doe, Sassafras, just had twin doelings, Delphinium and [name]Dulcinea[/name] ([name]Delphi[/name] and [name]Dulcie[/name]) in the picture. I usually sell the kids once they are weaned, but I think these are keepers. They are just so sweet.

[name]Saffron[/name]- I like this one a lot.
[name]Vesper[/name]- It sounds really slimy to me.
[name]Journey[/name]- [name]Just[/name] a small town girl… Sorry. I guess it’s okay. Nothing I’d choose though.
[name]Tamsyn[/name]/[name]Tamsin[/name]- [name]Will[/name] always be confused for [name]Tasmin[/name]. [name]Even[/name] jasmine.
[name]Sparrow[/name]- I like it, but not enough to use it.
[name]Maren[/name]- I don’t really feel either way with this name.
[name]Piper[/name]- Too trendy for me, anyways.
[name]Poppy[/name]- Too cutesy/nicknamey for me.
[name]Flannery[/name]- I don’t like the sound of this name. It reminds me of flannel.
[name]Paisley[/name]- too trendy, I really don’t like the sounds of it either. Too frilly.
[name]Tempest[/name]- I like this, but I prefer [name]Storm[/name].
[name]Willa[/name]- I do like this. But I prefer [name]Willow[/name].
[name]Lilac[/name]- I [name]LOVE[/name] this name! My #1 on your list. It fits the trend, while standing out. Such a sweet smelling flower too.
[name]Plum[/name]- The next [name]Apple[/name]?
[name]Lark[/name]- It’s okay. I’d like it better as a middle.
[name]Wren[/name]- I really like this!
[name]Romilly[/name]- I’m indifferent.
[name]Rue[/name]- Maybe if it was short for something.
[name]Tansy[/name]- reminds me of [name]Pansy[/name]. Not a very nice slang connection.

I’ve tended to stick to the ADGA’s preferred tattoo letter for the girls and potential bucks. This year we had [name]Dulcinea[/name], Delphinum, [name]Dahlia[/name], Dandelion, and Shrimpy (who we wethered and sold as a pet). Last year we had a bunch of stinky boys: [name]Caspian[/name], [name]Ceasar[/name], Coriander, [name]Clover[/name], and [name]Chrysanthemum[/name], all sold. And my first year kidding we had [name]Briar[/name], Blueberry, and Buckleberry.

What a cool list! I think we have similar taste in names, so many of these are underused gems. Here are my favorites:

[name]Saffron[/name]
[name]Tamsin[/name]
[name]Poppy[/name]
[name]Willa[/name]
[name]Lilac[/name]
[name]Plum[/name]
[name]Romilly[/name]
[name]Tansy[/name]

I love [name]Maren[/name] and [name]Willa[/name], and I’m a bit charmed by the idea of [name]Hero[/name] as a middle name. Though [name]Katherine[/name] and [name]Mary[/name] are splendid middles, of course.
Of yours that he vetoed, I love [name]Iris[/name], [name]Helena[/name], and [name]Briony[/name].

Other ides…
[name]Marian[/name] (given [name]Marion[/name], it’s unisex)
[name]Alma[/name]
[name]Elinor[/name]
[name]Helen[/name]
[name]Beatrix[/name]
[name]Vera[/name]
[name]Adelaide[/name]
[name]Nicola[/name]
[name]Azalea[/name]
[name]Susanna[/name]
[name]Elspeth[/name]

[name]Love[/name] [name]Wren[/name] and [name]Poppy[/name]. I also like the suggestion of [name]Fern[/name].

Some more short but sweet names:

[name]Rue[/name]
[name]Leire[/name]
[name]Zoe[/name]
[name]Esme[/name]

[name]Tansy[/name] & [name]Saffron[/name] are very pretty from your compromise list

I agree with roseymaam, [name]Juno[/name] is a beautiful but strong name your dh might go for.

Other names that I think are beautiful but my hubs has veto’d are [name]Ursula[/name] & [name]Verbena[/name]. Maybe one of those strike your fancy?
& [name]Scarlett[/name] could work if you want to play the literary angle- although she is a terrible character!
