We are looking for a name for a little girl that is also a word with a “spunky” meaning. Example: our boy name is [name]Payne[/name]. I also like the name wylie or jezebel for a girl, but both names vetoed by the dad… i definetely like names that come from outside the box, but cant find anymore by myself. any ideas???
[name]Delilah[/name], [name]Piper[/name], [name]Naomi[/name], [name]January[/name], [name]Daisy[/name], [name]Sally[/name], [name]Ramona[/name]…
how about [name]Moxie[/name]?
Great idea for a list! That’s exactly what I wanted for my daughter and we ended up with [name]Rory[/name].
I like LJ’s suggestion of [name]January[/name], and I love [name]Pam[/name]'s [name]Rory[/name]. I’d also add [name]July[/name], [name]Noa[/name], [name]Adair[/name] and [name]Clio[/name] - our darling daughter’s name. I do think [name]Jezebel[/name] is a bit racy, and while [name]Wylie[/name] is different, she’d blend in with all the Rileys and a growing crop of Mileys, too!
[name]How[/name] about:
[name]Tawny[/name]
[name]Riva[/name]
[name]Harper[/name]
Brocca
[name]Rayne[/name]
Devaney
[name]Cressida[/name]
[name]Jael[/name] -spunky alternative to the biblical [name]Jezebel[/name]. I almost never hate any name, but please, please, don’t use [name]Jezebel[/name]…the poor child will be teased unmercifully.
Some spunky sounding girls (not exactly word names):
[name]Zilla[/name]
[name]Zora[/name]
[name]Polly[/name]
[name]Salome[/name]
[name]Rena[/name]
[name]Talia[/name]
[name]Sojourner[/name]
[name]Betty[/name]
[name]Chana[/name]
[name]Harper[/name]
[name]Rona[/name]
[name]Vashti[/name]
Amana
Parul
[name]Poppy[/name]
[name]Hope[/name] that helps!
What about [name]Jory[/name] or [name]Roxanna[/name] nickname [name]Roxie[/name]? [name]Just[/name] a thought
[name]Jory[/name] and [name]Roxie[/name] – brilliant!
I like the suggestion of [name]Roxie[/name]/[name]Roxy[/name] a lot, since it’s reminiscent of “moxie,” which means “spunky” all on its own! Other possibilities:
[name]Juniper[/name]
[name]Regan[/name]
[name]Delaney[/name]
[name]Piper[/name]
[name]Zilla/name
[name]Jetta[/name]
[name]Orla[/name]
[name]Calla[/name]
[name]Macy[/name]
[name]Harley[/name]
[name]Pippa[/name]
[name]Brynn/name
It’s interesting to me because, while there are lots of great ideas here and I agree that most of these names seem “spunky,” there are a few that actually feel soft and mild to me: [name]Orla[/name], [name]Polly[/name], [name]Macy[/name]. I think a lot of times you need to go to the extreme – [name]Moxie[/name] and [name]Rory[/name] – to get general agreement on what counts as spunky (or serious or handsome).
I had a crazy idea when I saw this thread: [name]Madrigal[/name]. (It’s a musical arrangement that was popular in the Renaissance) She could go by the nickname [name]Maddie[/name].
But actually, I like the suggestion of [name]Roxana[/name] nn. [name]Roxie[/name]/[name]Roxy[/name] the best. [name]Both[/name] are great names, and it would give her (and you) some flexibility–she can be spunky [name]Roxie[/name] on the soccer team and beautiful [name]Roxana[/name] at her wedding.
And then there are the spunky nicknamey names like [name]Zuzu[/name] (as in “It’s a Wonderful Life”), [name]Lulu[/name], [name]Coco[/name], [name]Suki[/name], [name]Maisie[/name], [name]Mitzi[/name], [name]Gigi[/name], [name]Zadie[/name], [name]Nico[/name]. Some Irish names–like [name]Oona[/name]–have a lot of spunk too.
What about: [name]Holiday[/name], [name]Lucy[/name] or [name]Holland[/name]. I used to nanny for a very spunky French girl by the name of [name]Juliet[/name].
What about:
[name_f]Via[/name_f], [name_f]Tandy[/name_f], [name_u]Halle[/name_u]…?
