Help!

Hello,

Getting ready for our first child any day now. Still haven’t decided on a name but I’m really drawn to [name_m]Garth[/name_m]. I’ve never personally met anybody with this name but it’s not too “out there”, is it?

Thanks

[name_m]Garth[/name_m] [name_m]Brooks[/name_m] and [name_m]Garth[/name_m] from [name_m]Wayne[/name_m]’s World come to mind (only times I’ve heard the name). I don’t think it’s out there. I do view it very country, maybe a bit too country personally. I would not think negatively if I met one.

I like [name_m]Garth[/name_m]. Yeah, it has a bit of a country vibe, but I think your son’s personality will define the name for your family and friends.

If you like, it’s a good name. I vote yes!

[name_m]Garth[/name_m] is a surname used in [name_m]George[/name_m] [name_u]Eliot[/name_u]'s book Middlemarch - that’s my only association. I think it’s close enough to [name_m]Grant[/name_m] or [name_m]Gareth[/name_m] that it doesn’t sound too out there  It has a kind of interesting sound

I dont think its put there at all, but it has a very strong old school country feel to it.

Very very country but not to out there at all

It’s not my style but it’s perfectly usable.

My primary association is the children’s book illustrator [name_m]Garth[/name_m] [name_m]Williams[/name_m] – he did the classic edition of [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]'s [name_m]Web[/name_m]. I don’t think it’s too country. It feels Welsh to me (though it’s not) because of the similarity to [name_m]Gareth[/name_m].

I think it’s fine, I picture a barefoot boy stand on tan dusty soil, the knees of his blue overalls are stained in mud and one is rolled into a cuff for no apparent reason. the pockets are full of smooth river stones… He’s wearing a white t shirt, which somehow still looks mostly white so it’s very clear he looked much more put together when you let him go out to play. He’s got dusty blond, windswept hair that needed a trim about a month ago, a few errant freckles and a very cheeky grin.
A nice nickname would be [name_m]Gar[/name_m], which I should note is a big big fish I can picturing him trampling into the kitchen claiming he saw…
An alternative to [name_m]Garth[/name_m] that is similar vibe wise but a little softer around the edges is [name_f]Garland[/name_f]
Siblings for [name_m]Garth[/name_m]… I see [name_f]Annalee[/name_f], [name_m]Jack[/name_m] & [name_u]Tobin[/name_u] and
I think it’s very usable but does carry a strong ‘country’ feel
Personally I like that feel
A big favourite of mine personally is [name_m]Colt[/name_m], I think it feels very fresh and full of energy. And country for many reasons.
I don’t just think [name_m]Garth[/name_m] fits this because of the singer either, I think his name works sooo well for him and the image he is trying to portray on its own. You see that and have no clue who he is and you’re likely to think country boy.
But you also aren’t getting [name_u]Jerry[/name_u] or likely even [name_u]Gary[/name_u] nns so that’s nice too if you aren’t going to that.
If you live in a city and are just not feeling 100% sure it’s going to work… [name_m]Garrett[/name_m] is another option. Not overused and has that slightly more modern playground feel. [name_m]Bennet[/name_m], [name_m]Beckett[/name_m] & [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] are all fairly popular these days but have a very underplayed classic feet that [name_m]Garrett[/name_m] can embody it that’s more what you’re looking for.
All in all it you love [name_m]Garth[/name_m], go for it! If you find you’re still unsure, here are some thoughts.
Congrats! And happy naming!

It’s definitely usable! I wouldn’t use it myself, but I actually think [name_m]Garth[/name_m] is a really cool choice. It’s rugged, a little bit rock’n’roll, a little bit cowboy, and quite ahead-of-the-curve, I think! It’s similar to names like [name_m]Heath[/name_m], [name_m]Jarvis[/name_m], [name_u]Leland[/name_u] and [name_m]Redding[/name_m] to me. A mix of old-school and edgy-cool.
